How cool. Lovely stove and I love the push button colors. My Mom had the Stratoliner, spelling????, By General Electric. Such a nice stove and it had one oven and lots of storage. Also, it had a burner that could be lowered to cook and brought back up to cook topside. Great memories. She also had a 40 inch white 1960's GE. Not sure which one,but similar in style to your green GE. Love your videos and great memories of stoves. Take care from Indiana. Georgiann Maloney 😸🤗
Hi Georgiann! Glad this brought back memories of you mom's stoves! Those GE ranges from this era were really great! The Statoliner was a nice range! Thanks!
You do have the prettiest handwriting. I remember avocado green and harvest gold everything. I like electric stoves. I grew up until age 15 with a gas stove, but when Mama bought a different house, she bought the electric stove that was in the house. It's nice to see Ralph and not just hear his voice "behind the camera". I love your kitchen with its white cabinets. That is such a cool idea to have a little cabinet that rolls out so you can insert a wider stove. You had your thinking cap on when designing this kitchen. A double oven would be really convenient. I like to serve scalloped potatoes when I have ham and having one oven makes this difficult. That stove is older than I am an still works!
Thanks, Margaret! I grew up with an electric stove and that's all I ever had in any of my homes. When I designed this kitchen I knew that I would want to use all my stoves over time, so I had the carpenter make a section that I could take out for when I wanted one of the 40 inch stoves in the kitchen. So glad I did that! Thanks!

My grandmother kept a metal-covered protective asbestos pad on the open top area. She lived to the ripe old age of 104, so I guess no harm done! Can't wait to see you whipping something up on that beauty. Hope you get the Flair in there someday, Kevin.
Hi Kim! I've seen photos of all kinds of hot pads that were available for the top of the stoves. I'd love to get the Flair in the kitchen someday - but it's a bit too tall so I'll have to figure out a way get it in there. Thanks!

Kevin and Ralph, you brought back memories of moving my mom's 1953 GE stove out for repairs, which I did at least three times. I always took out the drawers to make it lighter. I still have the manual to that stove (and mom still uses the stove) and it calls those lighted buttons Tel-a-Cook lights. I've always loved GE stoves, so it will be nice to see this one in action. I hope you can fix the left oven. And you learned how to turn on that fluorescent light--hold in the button until it flashes on.
Hi Jonathan - taking out the bottom drawers would have made it a little lighter to move, but I wanted to make sure that Ralph and I got a full workout! LOL! Glad to hear that your mom's GE is still going strong! Love the Tel-a-Cook lights! Thanks!

Hi GSM - many people didn't care for avocado green, but I always liked that color, too. I heard about California phasing out gas ranges. That insert in the counter allows me to install a stove of any size - it has been a dream of mine to finally be able to use some of my 40" ranges. Thanks!
Very nice stove it looks like it came off the set of I love Lucy tv show or something general electric sure made some great stoves and made too last The 2 door set up is really great
HAHA!...The "rabbit" ears is what really does it! HA I'm not turning you two loose with a moving truck business. LOL Too funny. BUT I do love this stove. GE has always been a favorite for me. Back in the day it was my first choice. These days things have certainly changed and there's a lot more choices, it seems. Thanks again. Can hardly wait to see some Autumn goodies coming from your efforts! (Love the haircut.)
Hi Valli! I guess Ralph and I will stick with our day jobs! LOL The GE ranges of this era were really good and I'm looking forward to using it. I just had a haircut the day before we recorded this video - so it was still looking fresh. I'm about due for another one! Thanks!
Ralph's first zinger 11:31 but the best was the chiropractor bill remark...interesting GE stuck with push button burner controls until the early 70s but I guess they figured out customers preferred a dial because it provided more exact control of the heat. I know this because my Mom had her kitchen remodeled in 1971, she ordered a GE push button stove before the remodel but the one delivered had dials. The appliance dealer told her GE was no longer making push button controls so he substituted the top of the line self-cleaning stove at no extra cost...result she loved it for decades!
Hi Briney! GE kept those pushbuttons around for a long time. Sounds like your mom ended up getting a great deal when her new stove got delivered! Those early 70's GE ranges were good ones! Thanks!
All drawers on the bottom of stoves are designed to be a warmer not for storage.. my father was the head of design for the G.M. Frigidaire and later worked as head of design for Hot point.. ha ha..it was a pet peeve of his that many people thought and used them for storage..I had too laugh when you said that because my mother would use it for storage ha ha just a funny story.. keep up the great shows!!
Hi Kevin. It's a very nice stove and I really like the buzzer sound the timer makes. The modern commercial ovens we use at the school cafeteria I work at actually still use that type of buzzer. I don't know exactly how the sound is generated but it's definitely loud enough if you're in another room.
That's similar to my stove!!!! I have two sides that are the same width. Ones not bigger than the other. My dash controls are all on the right hand side. And my burners are on the front of stove and the back left is a deep soup burner. So similar!!
Another great looking stove. You should do a video on bread boxes. People don't use bread boxes any more for some reason. I do though. I have a two level chrome Lincoln BeautyWare.
What a beauty 😍 I love how you treat your stoves so well and keep them looking beautiful. And yes I thought it looked familiar, there is a video on here (UA-cam) called "Push Button Magic", which features both the Liberator and the Stratoliner. So wonderful to see it featured 😌 (This stove appears to be a little newer than the one aforementioned) but still interesting to watch the promo
Sooo jealous here...lol. We'd love to see you use your timed outlet for a percolator, or the other for a frypan, etc. Of course I'll dream of a video of you using both ovens, and every burner at the same time imitating the print ads of the era.
@@cavalcadeoffood hey Kevin I was trying to figure out what Ralph was talking about when he said “that’s where the demons live” what is he referring to ?
@@RugbyFootballer There is a cold air return on the floor in the kitchen studio. I have to take the grate off of it when we changes the stoves, so it creates a large opening in the floor - Ralph says the demons live in there! LOL!
I think that it's seriously time to recruit some younger folks to take over the physical side of the stove exchange... I thought the entire video was going to come to a crashing end when that oven door flipped open and almost caught the wall!! 😲😳😉 But you did it!! How long has Ralph worked for Post? I remember him wearing that same style of work shirt many years ago at the cottage. Now it's time to do a cooking episode again. It's been awhile! Maybe some golabki soup?! I made some recently and was wonderful!! Good to see that you both survived this episode!! Take care.
Hi Greg! I know - I'll have to time these exchanges around when I have the young folks around! Oh well, Ralph and I need the exercise! I'm glad these moves are quite short and fairly easy now. Ralph doesn't work for Post but he loves that shirt and as you know has worn it for years! He's doing something right because it still fits! LOL! I'm pretty sure I have some cooking episodes scheduled in the upcoming weeks. Thanks!
Kevin, a couple of things would make this job easier. An appliance dolly, rather than a hand truck, and those silicone glides to slide it into place and back out again when you change stoves. Those would also spare your floor a little bit. I have them under all my large appliances. Another thing to mention is that Rubbermaid made a stovetop pad that was heat resistant to go on the right side. One could put hot pans on it or other things, and the enamel stovetop was protected from scratches. I found one for my mother's 1954 O'Keefe & Merritt stove that she loves.
Hi Cynthia! I've been telling myself for years to get an appliance dolly and I think I'm going to finally get one to make these moves easier. I actually move stoves around quite a bit (not for the kitchen studio) and so it will be handy. I have tried the plastic glides but have not had good luck with them - maybe I got the wrong kind. I have one of those Rubbermaid pads tucked away somewhere - I think it's yellow. I'll have to look for it. Thanks so much!
Really loved getting to see some of the finer details of your kitchen up close. THAT FLOOR! Is it vintage? I love it! BTW, do they have dirt in Michigan? I've never seen a kitchen sparkle so much.
Hi James! The tile on the floor is brand new - or at least when I built the kitchen studio in 2018/2019. It is Armstrong vinyl tile that is currently made. I did the open rectangle in the center because I saw it in an old ad for kitchen flooring and liked how it looked. We have lots of dirty and dust in Michigan! LOL! So much so that this kitchen floor needs sweeping and mopping at least once a week!
Sorry Susan - it's a tight squeeze behind the stove where it plugs into the wall so I don't know if we could get the camera in back there. It plugs into a standard 240 volt outlet. Thanks!
Hi Greg - it's a little complicated but it has a "start" and "stop" time, and an auto/manual switch. When just using the range normally it should be set on "manual." The automatic functions allows you to set a time for the oven to turn on and turn off. If you can find an owner's manual online (I see them often on Ebay) it would be good to have for reference of all the controls.
I bought a range made by hotpoint I think it's from the mid 50s but I don't know how to figure it out does anyone know any websites or other resources I can use to figure it out. I'm not a big cook but it's crazy how much one of these ranges can inspire you to cook and try new things.
Sorry if you said this is the video and I just missed it, but the push buttons on vintage GE stovetops go HI 2 3 LO WM. So what does that mean for the stovetop heat? Is Hi 1? Or is Lo 1 and it’s just out of order? Been debating with my friends about it as our vintage features it.
Hi Riley - GE had a strange layout for the pushbuttons. The order of heat starts with HI and each button to the right takes the heat down gradually to WM. Thanks!
I haven't watched you in a while since I don't get notifications (even though I'm suscribed for all), but I keep thinking how much more I'd like one of your stoves compared to the one I have. Drives me crazy that my oven fan stays on forever especially when the oven is set at 400 or more (7 year old Frigidaire). Already replaced the front burner sensor (the stove was about 5 years old at that point) and if another one goes, I'll be looking for a new (maybe old) stove. I also like the looks of this one, but I'd imagine it's tough to find something old in great shape (though you seem to). I guess I'm also restricted by the fact that I don't have a 40 inch opening. I'll be catching up on your videos today.
Hi Geri - if you can find a vintage stove in good working order you will probably enjoy cooking with it. The build quality of many of the older appliances is far above much of what is produced today. If you click on the bell icon under the video this should reactivate your notifications so you will hear when we post a new video (it's usually every Thursday morning, Detroit time). Thanks!
I'm shocked that avocado hasn't [yet?] made the big comeback with retro lovers that pink did. I just really love it. BTW, speaks of dated - when I see someone in 2024 painting an exterior gray, I always think, "That's the person who back in the '70s bought the very LAST harvest gold/avocado appliance suite off the factory line :D

Sooo jealous here...lol. We'd love to see you use your timed outlet for a percolator, or the other for a frypan, etc. Of course I'll dream of a video of you using both ovens, and every burner at the same time imitating the print ads of the era.
Hi Longhairbear! Great idea - I'll have to fire up the whole range and see how it does! It will be a big meal that day!
@@cavalcadeoffood and watch that electric meter turn when you do! alas most electric meters are digital today!
I have a similar age and size stove made by General Motors and Frigidaire.
I love it.
Sounds like you have a nice vintage range, too! Enjoy!
I would love to see you cook something in one of the stoves that have that deep well cooking element. I've always wanted one of those stoves.
Hi 418laylah - I'll get a stove in the studio one of these days that has a deep well cooker. I would also like to try it out. Thanks!
New stove oven range swap out yay I never realized Ralph looks taller then Kevin
Hi RugbyFootballer! Ralph is taller than me - it handy when he needs to do an overhead shot with the camera! LOL! Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood hey Kevin I was trying to figure out what Ralph was talking about when he said “that’s where the demons live” what is he referring to ?
That hole in the floor that I almost fell into goes into the basement - which looks like something out of a scary movie…😂
@@ralphvaldez15 oh wow a trap door to the basement that’s odd unless it was used. as a drop off slot for store returns next to an old cash register
@@RugbyFootballer There is a cold air return on the floor in the kitchen studio. I have to take the grate off of it when we changes the stoves, so it creates a large opening in the floor - Ralph says the demons live in there! LOL!
So much better !!!!
This one is more period to the kitchen for sure. Thanks, Mark!
You need an early Hobart dishwasher to complete the set
I think that it's seriously time to recruit some younger folks to take over the physical side of the stove exchange... I thought the entire video was going to come to a crashing end when that oven door flipped open and almost caught the wall!! 😲😳😉
But you did it!!
Take care.
Amen to the younger brothers
That Napkin holder is a gift for donation to St Labre Indian Missions school
We have a 1953 GE Liberator at an old family camp, still runs like a Butte. I should make a video on it
That's a great stove! Would love to see a video about it!
The color sequence from low to high was usually blue-green-purple-yellow-red.
Thanks!
I wish you would show how it’s plugged in.
Sorry Susan - it's a tight squeeze behind the stove where it plugs into the wall so I don't know if we could get the camera in back there. It plugs into a standard 240 volt outlet. Thanks!
I have a 50’s GE but it keeps blowing fuses. Any idea what may be wrong?
A time stoves were the peace lasted build with quality
I have a 1954stove but I can't find a oven element and the plug inside the stove
Sometimes parts for these are hard to find. They come up for sale on Ebay every now and then.
Could you explain how to use the clock/timer. I recently purchased one of these and can’t figure out how to use it.
@@cavalcadeoffood thanks for the reply. I don’t see the auto/manual setting you are referring to. I will see if I can find a manual. Thanks again.
I bought a range made by hotpoint I think it's from the mid 50s but I don't know how to figure it out does anyone know any websites or other resources I can use to figure it out. I'm not a big cook but it's crazy how much one of these ranges can inspire you to cook and try new things.
Hi Chris - keep an eye on Ebay for an original manual for your Hotpoint range. They come up often for sale.
WOOHOO!!!!
Thanks, Sharon!
I rember the push button stoves.
❤👍
Thanks, Sylvia!
Thanks!
Well, Thats one of my favorite GE ranges but its not a 54 its a 55 or 56 , beautiful range.
Hi Hans! I dated from an advertisement but it may be a '55 - I'll go by your opinion!! Hope all is well!!
@@cavalcadeoffood One cataract done one next week, so far so good.
Just deliver that stove to my house.
LOL! Thanks, Mary Ann!
Thanks!
My mom had one like thisone
Hi Sharon - great stoves!
I don't know why we don't plug in stoves here in the UK, most are hardwired which is just stupid!
Hi laincis - I didn't know that. Here in the US electric stoves were always plugged in. Thanks!
Better style more features
Hi Mark! Yes, this one has a lot of bells and whistles! Looking forward to using it! Thanks so much!
Hi Linusrox - seems like I'm seeing more of the 70's colors in things. Not too much green, but lots of gold, yellow and orange. Thanks!
