  • Special Thanks to Addie, a friend of our TR family, for volunteering to spray Imri.
An even BIGGER "THANKS" to Imri, for taking this spray so all of you at home can see this.
I have a few "take away" bits of wisdom that I want all of you to take away from this video:
    1. Note how quickly Imri closed the distance on Addie. She already had her finger on the trigger (safety off); she sprayed him solidly in the face, and he STILL reached her. If he wanted her purse, he got it. If he wanted to stab her, he stabbed her. If he wanted to pick her up and toss her in the waiting van, she got tossed in the van. Pepper Spray sucks to be sprayed with, but it is not immediately incapacitating like the Taser is.
    2. Note how Imri was able to shoot accurately after being sprayed. If you are ever sprayed by pepper spray by someone with criminal or malicious intent, you fight through and you beat that ass. It will feel like the surface of the sun in your eyes. However, the temperature is actually room temperature. You CAN fight through it. You have to reach down deep inside and get mad at the pain. Scream like Imri if it will help you get there. You fight because you and YOUR FAMILY will depend on it.
    3. Note how limp the stream was, when Imri sprayed it at the steel target. You get what you pay for. Better Pepper Spray Launchers (like the Kimber) cost more money, but are worth it. Whichever version you buy, like Imri said, BUY TWO of them so you can practice.
    4. Note how the aftermath even made me gag and cough. The mist got all over me. You'll see me deliberately NOT touching my eyes, for fear of making it worse. For my law enforcement guys out there; understand that if you hose a guy down with this stuff; before you toss him in the back of your cruiser, ensure that you have turned the Air Conditioning & fan off on the dash. Best bet: put him in your buddy's car.
These videos are fun to watch, but I still want you to take the teaching points away also. Knowledge is power. Knowledge can be your best Weapon. Strength & Honor, TR.

Very important. Had a veteran, turned cop buddy as a roommate a while back and after I agreed to get pepper sprayed by him, after 35 mins of pain, the shower part was the worst. WASH YOUR HANDS. THROW YOUR CLOTHES IN THE WASH, AND DONT TOUCH YOUR SENSITIVE AREAS.

I was an MP for many years and I much rather ride the lighting than feel the burn any day. That being said if the attacker has felt it before (and if the attacker may be strung out on something) he/she will have a better chance of continuing the attack. Something to keep in mind, if you can fight through it so can your attacker. So once that person has gone down, get out of the area before they even know what happened.

This video shows exactly why you should be carrying a firearm for self defense. A determined attacker can fight through almost anything. So chose the most realistic defense that will have the highest chance of success in stopping someone intent on hurting you.

As someone who recently had full face exposure in training, this video leads me to believe the quality of the OC spray will make a great difference in it's effectiveness. With the military grade spray that we used, once the spray got fully into your eyes the only way to see for at least 45 minutes would be to physically pry your eyelids open as the pain caused involuntary closure. Just something to take into consideration.

  • @JediKnife

Thanks you Imri, for literally taking one for the team. Glad you used the cheaper stuff because that’s all a lot of ordinary people ever bother to carry. I hope folks watching know that in the beginning scenario that Addie would have never stood a chance at that distance if it were a real attack; that was really even too close for realistic gun defense without some sort of hand to hand technique first to create some distance.

In boot camp, we were marched into a building with tear gas in it (told to hold our breath). When all inside we were given the command to "gas mask". We reached for them, put them on, cleared them and could walk out. It was stout stuff. Some threw up. All had burning eyes and labored breathing. Of course, tear gas is different stuff but....

Tactical Rifleman That was the consensus from the instructors at the time in our classes back in the 90's. Seemed to be the case in the field too from what I saw. Subject hosed down with a tremendous amount took longer to respond to the spray than a good solid dose. But, just like shooting, if your gonna shoot them once, their worth shooting again! LOL guess you could always test the theory on "Z"!

  • @auwz66
    @auwz66 4 роки тому +1

In training always remember to keep at least arms length away from the target when using OC, ideally 6ft. This is because a direct shot to the eye can cause lasting damage. Also worth mentioning the most common mistake for people using OC in real world situations is to cover the nozzle with their finger by accident. I always suggest getting a bigger OC spray to help prevent this as the really small ones are actually very hard to use in a real situation. Some trainers advocate getting your pinky under the can to ensure your hand is far enough down. Others say don't use your thumb as this can lead your index finger up to the nozzle. HTH.

Not all OC is created equal, and it's not regulated to a consistent standard.
The consensus is that you want something with a Major Capsicanoid Content of 1.2%+
The most consistent and respected brands are ASP, POM, and Sabre Red.
The gas station stuff can be weak and inconsistent.
Unless it's propellant or active agent, I'm not interested in it being in my OC (dyes, etc)
It's not necessarily going to be a fight stopper, but it's better than an empty handed eye jab, and the threshold of using OC is generally a lot lower than using deadly force.

  • @aaronjenkley1993

Only thing I would add is that you should aim to strafe from ear to ear, not from the a zone and up. Other than that it’s an extremely good demonstration. If you’re using spray for defense you need to keep in mind this will slow down but not stop your attacker so it’s extremely important to get off the x!

One of the things I tell my people when I’m training them is the aftermath the user. Often the bad guy is already coming forward so they make contact. That means your now exposed as well especially if you have to grapple. So going home you don’t stop at the store, you don’t pick up the kids etc because you will expose everyone. Put a plastic bag in the seat and throw it in the outside garbage can at home. Go straight to the washer and strip down using only cold water. Then take a cold shower keeping the water from running down to your netherregions. Stay safe

A lot to learn from this. Pepper spray will probably not stop your attacker. He’ll be able to do just about anything that he planned just not as quickly. You should practice transition drills from OC spray to your gun because he’s still a deadly threat. Thank TR and a special thanks to Imri.

Been sprayed several times. In basic and in police training. Pepperspray works eventually... About 2% of people just blink through it. About 50% of people curl up in the fetal position within 3 seconds. But yeah, you can control your breathing and fight through it...

  • @mook528

I think when you are mentally prepared to be sprayed it helps. A person that’s been unexpectedly hosed in the face will be out of the game long enough for the other person to get away or attack you if they are on offense. At any rate if you’re in a fight with someone and you spray them you better be prepared to still fight for at least the next 10-15 seconds before the attacker starts to give in. And last, DUMP THAT ENTIRE CANISTER ON HIM! Consider these things one use only.

1990 I was selling OC spray on the campus I attended. This was before it was readily available at Walmart.
One night I was giving a pitch/demonstration at a sorority which included me getting sprayed. Yeah, it sucked. But the thing that I wasn't prepared for was the smell. It smelled GOOD! The smell reminded me of being at the beach and smelling coconut oil suntan lotion. The pain clouded my mind and instinctively I took in another deep breath.

I wonder what the quality is of this sample spray compared to what is supposed to be a high quality (high capsaicin level) spray like POM.

OC and Pepper spray are two different things. It’s not “OC Pepper spray”. OC is Oleoresin capsicum, mean the oil extract of a pepper. Pepper spray is a chemical spray that is chemicals, not peppers. Just thought I’d put that out there for ya.

We can't buy this stuff in my country, same for tasers. I looked up how to make pepper spray but it only had a two week shelf life. Any ideas for how to make it last longer/better recipe appreciated.
