Thank you for an excellent quality upload of probably the best version of this song. The vocals are better than the Henry Hall version and I love the jazz bit near the end. One of the first records I ever played as a 5 year old, 65 years ago! Great job.
Vocals are by Jack Payne himself. Most of the pictures are taken from the Jack Payne book "Signature Tune". This track has been recorded in late Aug. 1932. My favourit Jack Payne song is "Exactly Like You" also sung by himself.
I'm 79 but still play around a lot and I meet lots of your generation. Some of the stuff they play is good. But I do feel that if somethings is good then it's good for ever - the time period is irrelevant. But you're right these guys did have it all in spades - melody, clever lyrics - technical arrangement - the lot.
Nietzsche may have said that we killed God, maybe BUT one thing's for sure, the modern world has killed beauty along with so many essential human qualities which once generated love and hence life. Seems as if this is a swan song to a happier age.
Almost every version of this song is great.
Agreed.

Classy people.
A simpler time perhaps. Touching lyrics, great old tune.
What happened to us?

very nice - I like this - so much
Lovely arrangement! Never heard this one before. My favorite will always be Al Bowlly, but this one is excellent!
Love is the sweetest thing and cannot get better.
