- Crowds of people have lined the streets of Dublin to pay tribute to The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan ahead of his funeral in County Tipperary.
Musicians played some of his best known songs and fans sang along as the horse-drawn carriage bearing his coffin made its way through the city.
The 65-year-old singer-songwriter had been unwell for some time before his death last week.
The procession ended shortly before midday.

He used to drink in my local pub in Camden town. He’s was an always having a pint early on even when we just having late morning coffee, Camden town in the late 80’s early 90’s was a fantastic place. Lovely music and will be sorely missed by many for sure.
rest in peace shane my condolences to his sister and allso friends in county tipperary the pogues music lives on
So amazing to see so many people come together! I watched the video of Glen Hansard and Lisa McNeil performing in the church, it was infuriating to see everyone with their cellphones out!
Jesus. Why does alcoholism and addiction take some of the best people too soon? I know he wasn’t a youngster anymore. But last year I lost the best friend who introduced me to this song as my first time hearing of The Pogues, in college naturally lol, and it’s of course lots of people’s favorite. This just feels heartbreaking. The crowd singing this song broke me. I’m still glad he was alive and they made the music they did. ❤️💔❤️
Because that's what a nights a lot of great poets that's what it is psychological greatness no matter what the poison or whatever you may want to be ! 🍀👊 Where Irish! 🍀 It's in our freaking DNA!👊🍀

Heard he was murdered for knowing the truth, same as Sinéad, protect your neck 🧣🫒
Tf? He had a illness for a long time...
What's with the miserable, hostile looking security clowns? Looks like a peaceful crowd to me.
I feel like security people always look that way. But I heartily agree that I don’t understand how anyone could be at this experience and not be joyful and sobbing. I truly don’t.

Precisely. Who is going to cause strife at such an event?
We will never listen to fairy tale of Newyork on RADIO or TV ever agin because of their woke Laws of causation
Tricolor my god that ridiculous
He was English, born in Kent England ❤
Bizarre comment
His mom and dad were both Irish, he was 100% Irish. You English always take credit for everything
typical English, want to own everything, he was not english, not english, not english, he was IRISH to the core. When Wellington was born in Ireland it was wonderful the way all you Saxons called him IRISH, at the battle of Waterloo you called him your IRISH saviour, the Irish General who saved the Empire, oh did I get this wrong, English when it suites , McGowan is no more english than William the Conqueror who put manners on you Saxons but it appears not enough manners always trying to steal everything IRISH
They do realise he was English?
No he was not.
He was English with Irish parents he went to Ireland as a young lad and soaked up the culture so yeah we do know he was English but with Irish blood
English born yes but he didn't see himself as English not even 1 %
his parents were irish which makes him irish, not english ...100 % irish @@user-vf4cc3xb2v he hates the english, he would turn in his grave if he heard you calling him english, no worse insult to an irish person
you do realise he was irish?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
