I completely forgot about the scene with Daphne. Colin is in a storm of emotions, in the middle of a crazy scandal, all shaken and in pain and yet, of all the family members, he is the only one who notices that something is wrong with Daphne. That she doesn't look happy, that something is off about her and he's checking with her... real sensitivity
Thanks for this comment. He really is a very empathetic character. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why he is my favorite Bridgerton brother.
Beautiful edit. Colin has always been sensitive and understanding. He was quick to forgive Marina, Anthony after saying that crude thing to him in season 1. He already forgave Eloise for the secret reveal the next day. Thats what makes him different and why Pen loves him
Some folks sympathize more with Penelope’s plight in terms of her longtime unrequited love for Colin. They honestly think he should have known she was in love with him all this time. But it does not always work that way. A person has to come to their own feelings in their own way and in their own time, it cannot be forced. Colin and Penelope came together at the right time for both of them. Long live Penolin!!
Absolutely agree! It seems many people just consume what they see, but don't use their brain to look deeper. It always...I hate Colin. .I hate Penelope...I hate Eloise, etc. I don't hate anyone. People aren't perfect, they make mistakes. You don't have to like someone, but try to empathize, and understand why some characters act the way they do.
@barbarafrings9231 exactly. And mistakes, tr*uma, personal growth or like Debling said "knowing who you are and accepting your peculiarities" is what makes someone interesting. No one is perfect and those who pretend they are you should really run from.
Beautiful edit. "You are a child" or "you are still a boy" are some of the reasons of this armor. And many others like when he is back from Greece and Ben makes fun of his beard, when Anthony "scolds" him for taking the money to invest in the mines (which he was doing to find out the scam), when Anthony says that Colin proposed to Marina because inexperienced and because he wasn't brought in brothels, when everyone in season 2 dismissed him when he tried to tell about his travels.... Love your edit. It shows why Colin had to put an armour
That’s why I said people should re-watch the show from season 1 to see him grow!! He has grown from a boy to a man that he thinks the society wanted him to be. He lost sense of who he is and try to live to others’ expectation. People said he hasn’t suffered, they are wrong. He suffered from Marina from season 1. He’s still heartbreaking in season 2. He starts to open up again in season 3 and it’s at the same time that Penelope starts to find herself a husband. The timing is right, and they’re ready for each other, so that’s why their relationship works in s3. Their relationship isn’t rushed because it has been built up since day one that we know them. Long game indeed.
The kindest soul, the demisexual king himself, beloved Colin - thank you for making this!! Colin is such a quiet character in terms of his development and personal revelations, I think it’s easy for people to misunderstand him or not understand the depth of what he’s gone through. He’s been afraid and felt so alone for so long, I’m so happy Pen and him have finally found their way to each other, and that he was brave enough to ask. Can’t wait for June 13th!! ❤
@@amberanderson7245 absolutely agreed!!! There is a lack of representation, and to have it shown on such an enormous show and with a man, too! We just keep winning 😌
I think that he's starting to realize that he doesn't need the armor around Penelope that she accepts him the way he is and that she just expects honesty and respect from him and I think that when he finds out that she's Lady Whistledown I think that he'll be angry at first but then he'll become jealous because she found a purpose for her life and one that makes money and then he'll most likely accept it because he won't want to risk losing her and his love for her will be stronger than his anger toward her for being Lady Whistledown
Perfect composition about Colin. Very well done. When a boy becomes a man, a man who is not only compassionate, but also passionate, strong, handsome and , 😊well, a true #Bridgerton 🫦
I love it! Especially seeing all of the things Violet spoke about him being sensitive, wearing armor and wanting to please others. He lost himself in trying to be what society wanted him to be. His armor came off when he was around Penelope. She accepted him for who he truly is and finally he saw exactly who he wanted to be. And who better to spend his life with than the one who truly accepts and loves him without question. Thanks for uploading.
Colin is sensitive, caring and sweet. I absolutly love his caracter and I really enjoyed seeing him listen to his heart this last season even though it's not what society expected him to do. I must add that I love the scene between him and Violet before the last ball : I like her way of sharing her point of view to help her son. Thank you for this tribute. 💙
I'm so suck of people saying he didn't suffer enough. He had!! Yes, he has a loving family that support him, but they don't take him seriously, they don't care about his interests, they constantly make fun of him; he's still on his own, he has no one to turn to, but Pen. My sweet suffering boy💔 finally someone understands him!
I also hate when people say that "Colin needed to grovel more" and so on... Like he did hurt her, but he regretted it and apologised. He suffered enough and I'm very happy with the pacing of this season - he didn't have to grovel more as he gathered the courage to bare his soul to Pen and she reciprocated his feelings.
People don't seem to think that part of his suffering was not hearing from Penelope all summer even though he wrote to her. She was the one person who answered all of his letters for the first two summers he traveled. Colin assumed she would answer like always. It was part of why he put on armor and hardened himself. It wasn't until he came home and asked her why that he got an answer that he didn't expect. He didn't even have the words to explain himself and just kept saying "Pen" when she confronted him. Penelope also expected kindness from him. And only a few minutes before she heard his insult, he said he would always be there for her. She was the one person who listened to him and took him seriously. He almost lost that along with her friendship.
God this is so beautiful and really shows why Colin acts the way he does in part 1 😭 I get so confused by all the comments online misinterpreting his behaviour! I feel like the show couldn't make it more obvious but yet here we are.
He is the most beautiful spirit and when he finds out that Penelope. This is true love. He faces it with the basis of courage and loves so much with the whole heart about time. Did he sees the beauty before him
THANK YOU!!! I have been waiting for a good breakdown of Colin. I will never understand the hate. Just because he wasn’t aware of Penelope’s feelings for him, doesn’t mean he wasn’t aware of Penelope herself. He cares so much about so many, and he deserves to be happy. It’s half of what makes Polin so very appealing. Him finally realizing he has loved Penelope the whole time is so satisfying. I love their love. 💖💙
Oh my gosh..This was so awesome. I love Colin, I love Polin🥰4-Ever. Pen brought Colin back from his isolation. To the real Colin. Thank you so much for your great tribute!
Oh god, that is exactly what I was looking for in an edit of Colin. I am trying to explain to people to make understand him better (and Pen too), but it is like they blind or simply they didn't watch the last seasons or simply they take the hate propaganda to seriously that they refuse to see, like it is ridiculous, you would think he m*rder someone to the way some people mindset works 🤯 Thank you, I love it ❤️🤧 I love the music and how different the scenes connect. 🥺
Great job with the edit. He's my favorite Bridgerton. Out of all the lead males, he's the one that had to change the least & was a natural romantic. Even though I can relate to Penelope being a shy wallflower, I am more like Colin. So much, that if my mom was alive, then she probably would've given me the same speech as Violet (minus the Pen engagement part). 😊
He is one of my favorite Bridgerton brothers! I love his sensitivity, his humor and that he isn’t like all of the other guys of the ton! But Pen saw him for who he truly was!!
Thank you for this. It is truly beautiful. He is my fav character and you have captured him so well. All the elements that have made him put up these facades ❤thank you for bringing it together so well
I think the genuine care and love they have for each other is much stronger and more important to them than any rift LW could create. He may be upset but he loves Pen, and he knows how important she is to him 🥹
I don’t think his reaction will be as bad as we might assume it to be based on the ruin whistledown scene. I think the only time Colin gets mad at Whistledown is because she wrote something about the people he loves (Marina, Eloise, and Penelope)
I’m sick to my stomach omg 😭😭 I’m so emotional and sick about this. His character feels so real…Colin, get behind me!!!! He’s patronized like a child, he mirrors those he views as men, he feels unfulfilled and pressured. I’ll never forget Anthony telling him to wet his wick first before humouring the idea of marriage. Hyper-sexuality seems the only way to be taken seriously. He’s just a lover boy and his fantasies literally are just running to the girl he loves in a dark garden.
His character is heartbreaking and entirely logical of the people pleasing. With the brothels and things in season 3, it totally make sense. After so much people pleasing when people are there, you can start to adjust your private lifestyle to their expectations as well. Even though they would technically never know if he didn't go to brothels - he could even just make up the stories. But he felt like he *should*, so in a way, it was just an extension of meeting their wishes/demands.
I got the reason for the brothel scene in ep 4 but not ep 2. I think in my head, I thought this was a chance to have a virgin romantic lead so was a bit disappointed but at least Colin has recognised sex and making love are two different things and he needs the feelings
At first when I found out about the brothel scenes a month ago I felt sick. I wasn't thinking of Colin as a virgin cause he wasn't one in the books, but seeing him participating in a threesome was the last thing that I needed. Like, to be honest, I still can't watch these 2 scenes. But the scene in ep 2 is basically about his insecurity. He came home with this fake personality that was immediately noticed by LW. Him having sex with 2 girls at the same time was him saying "Oh, LW is wrong, this is new me, I'm one hell of a man". BUT! Interesting detail that was pointed out on Polin Reddit: He tells ladies that he is late, but in the next scene we see him waiting for Pen. Also when ladies ask him "same time tomorrow?" he says "perhaps". Why not say "yes"? I'm pretty sure that visiting brothels doesn't give Colin as much satisfaction as he pretends it gives.
@blue_rook I get what you mean about book Colin but to me, TV Colin had his differences. For a start, he is about 10 years younger and when he couldn't bring himself to kiss Marina I thought, oh, are we finally going to have a virgin romantic lead? Especially as TV is so sensitive. They could still show him flirting but the brothel scene was cringe in ep 2 - even if he did leave to wait on Pen. Ep 4 doesn't bother me cause he couldn't perform as his mind was on Pen. I think the writers just missed a trick by missing the opportunity to provide a virgin romantic lead - which is rare. I know it was trying to portray Colin being who he thought he should be rather than who he is but I think it could have been portrayed differently and the writers were lazy.
