Good job guys, this was such an awesome video! I didn't realise Sheffield had that many abandoned buildings, I definitely want to embark on my own mission to visit these one day. I remember probably 8 years ago going to a birthday party at the Ski Village and having the food in one of those abandoned rooms, it's a shame about it all really.
I enjoyed this video very much. Typically, on many Urban Exploration videos you get the sense that the Explorers think they know everything there is to know about the subjects (a certain bravado). What was also nice here was the humility, the sense that perhaps you didn't know as much but gave it your best shot in the name of or for the sake of exploration. Exxellent all around.
It's so sad to feel that once I worked on security on a event where "Eddy the Eagle" did a record jump at the Ski village back in 1995. Memories of the busy place and watching all people ski down the slope viewed from the roof of the Kelvin flats I was also working security on when they were being knocked down. I walked around thousands of empty apartments where people once lived as well as the pubs. I real eye opener back then. Thanks for sharing.
Living in Sheff, Ive been to a few of these places myself out of interest. Particularly Ski village, which ive always had a fascination with since it (mysteriously) burnt down a few years ago. I don't think its emphasised enough how important documentations like this are, these buildings are relics to Sheffield's past, as well as the social and cultural history they take on after its perceived death. These spaces take on new life through through Graff culture (another thing Sheffield does really well). Anyone whose into urban exploration and lives in/ near Sheff should definitely give this a look!
My home city and to be honest awsome video I know of all the locations you visited and im sure you'll find more! Keep posting would love to see more of sheff from that perspective!
This is good! i heard of an abandoned hotel literally 4 days ago and thought i would make an afternoon with two of my friends. Never heard of Urban Exploring before but since going into hallam towers its deffinatly something i will do in the future. every room was completely sweeped unfortunatly but the view was amazing. need to invest in a respirator and a tripod.
We felt that seen as we were going during the day we wouldn't wear hi vis jackets however it does seem to make you look more official during an explore and we may use them in the future. Regarding hard hats we plan to use them if we go to megatron or maybe on a return to hallam towers.
Decent little film mate, enjoyed it. Well put together. I've seen a few of Sheffields alternative attractions myself. Not a fan of 28DL though, doesn't do these places any favours so I've learned. Surprised you never ran into any other groups of people at the courthouse, it's usually heaving. Feel free to drop us a line if you fancy some umbox related chit chat.
This is very interesting, although as a Sheffieder born and bred it makes me sad when I think of how many empty and derelict buildings there are in the city. I can remember when the Hallam Tower Hotel was one of the best hotels in Sheffield, and now look at it. And I didn't even realise that the Ski Village had shut!
We are sorry to have upset you, we are very lucky to have not encountered the things you mentioned and we hope to not run into any in the future. The people you have mentioned sound very interesting and we would love to meet them. We went around a lot of places in sheffield and are currently under going more explores, we admit that we were new to exploring and we have a real passion for it now as explained in the doc. Regards noobs
Hallam towers is pretty scary at night, very cool though and the view is unreal. Went is without a mask myself but either way asbestosis requires long term exposure so hopefully nothing to worry about.
I used to do this when I was a kid looking back it was pretty dangerous .... I once went to a place in Sheffield called the ready mix factory or something like that and we just used to go exploring don't know if it's still there..... but yeah anyway cool via
I really enjoyed this having known two of the places well in their former glory. I found it funny you couldn't find Hallam Tower, it sticks out like a sore thumb, anyone over 50 from Sheffield knows it. Thanks again.
What’s scary is that I went to the ski village as a young kid and seeing it like that it’s strange and makes u realise how nature claims everything eventually
Although i enjoyed this exploration i have to point out the use of the words Hallam towers its name is Hallam tower due to it only ever having 1 tower as we were told when we went to work there.
It makes me sad whenever I see the old courthouse. You'd think with it's key location and historical value, it'd be used for something, or even turned into a museum? I do hope it isn't demolished.
Would love to go and have a poke around these buildings in Sheffield, always wanted to see the megatron too. Any tips on how to get into doing this sort of stuff?
Great video. Buy some boots with md-sole protection; a nail through the foot can really spoil your day or much worse. FYI: asbestos particles are too small to see even in a beam of light.
Why did you not go through the storm drains to see Megatron? Is that because it is too well known already? Or were the rivers running too high that week?
Honestly, it's because it was for a project at university and to tackle Megatron requires quite a lot of equipment and planning that we just didn't have the time for and couldn't afford. We would have loved to have an explore of Megatron in here but unfortunately it just didn't happen. Thanks for watching and thanks for the reply!
Nice video! Cant Remember what month in 2013, but I was in a friends flat at Liberty House and it looked over the building at 5:47 in your video. I can remember seeing people in there and wonder if it was you lot haha. There's some awesome artwork around there. I took these back in 2011: imgur.com/a/rn6X8
Middlewood Psych Hosp would have been fascinating for urban exploration, but i think the whole massive place has been knocked down I'm afraid - a consequence of thatcher's "care in the community" (what a joke!)
+james buttle Thatcher decimated Sheffield in the eighties along with many other northern communities, Coal is no more and steel is on it's last legs, now all at the mercy of foreign imports.
Just to let you know, if you can see the dust/fibres, it isn't asbestos, 10,000 asbestos fibres can fit on a human hair !! Also If you have stubble, the masks do no good at all !! You can take the fibres back into your houses and everywhere else you go from what is on your clothes, so potentially you could have sentenced family and friends to die, also I hope you washed your hands, as you can ingest it as well !! Happy exploring !!
Asbestos is nowhere near as deadly as you're saying. Yes Its bad for yout health and can cause cancers, but this is a risk only to people who work with or are exposed to it frequently, ie builders etc It wont kill your whole family just from entering a building with it in
Asbestos is very weird, my grandad died of it well into his 80's and used to eat it when it was on is sandwiches when he worked in construction in the old days. He was healthy all the way up until his late 80's then all of a sudden got incredibly ill and died in a matter of months, all because of the asbestos from years ago, but it could have been anything that got him at that age. On the flip side there was a bloke on the same street who used to work removing asbestos, he would come home, say hello to his daughter and wife, but not touch them, then quickly walk through the house to get changed and de contaminate in the back yard. From working with asbestos he ingested and breathed in loads on a daily basis but new the dangers and tried to keep his family well away from it, But that 2 seconds of walking through the house was all it took for his daughter to get ill and die from respitory issues because of the invisible amounts of asboestos that fell into the hallway, which is incredibly sad and you just wouldn't think that would even happen when your being so carefull. I think some people it gets really bad others can be fine and never get anything or at least until your really old.
+Ross Johnson Please educate yourself. Exposure to asbestos just once can kill. It's something that won't show up for 20-30 years after exposure. The wives of men who worked in asbestos mills also got ill as they were exposed washing their husband's clothes. Generally if asbestos is encapsulated then it is safe. if however an asbestos containing material is damaged, it is dangerous.
You've learnt to prepare for the worst?! I've been chased by the police and arrested, chased by guard dogs, tripped over booby traps, explored LIVE derps (meaning better places to go noobs!) Plus, you're not a true splorer until you've encountered the following people: Morris Elwyn Firbeck Manor Gamekeeper Bull house Manor Bull
hey ive been to the towers before its really hard to get into and even harder to get in the building witch i failed to do. but none the less really interestimg. and it made me laugh how yo got lost in fulwood, so close to the towers! the taxi drivers are pretty shit in sheffield nice job btw
Brilliant! I remember those places when they were open :( You're not taking enough care with asbestos, it only takes 1 fibre. www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/protect.htm
Jonathan Hinchcliffe If that was the case, we would all have the affects of asbestos poisoning, it takes 1 fibre to increase your risk. just like smoking 1 cig will increase your risk of cancer.
I was a graffiti artist in Sheffield back in the day. We used to hit up these places quite often. Brings back memories.
you should scan that diary and publish it. that's surely the most incredible find you made?
Great job. I'm a secondary school teacher in Holland and I will show this to my students in class today. We are currently discussing this topic.
+mirsjaan Really? you are!. wow. what a great topic ( different )
Thanks for posting! This is one of the most enjoyable videos for Urbex. Thanks again.
Good enough to be on the telly. Very good.

this is the documentary that inspired me to make my own videos when I was younger! nice to go back and look at this thats for sure
Well done. I like the theme, and the respectful professional way you all went about documenting these areas. I like the sound track too. Keep it up!
i lived i sheffield but i never to go and explore it and im very happy that you did this. i might go and explore myself.
this is so much better than other urban exploration videos it doesn't say gone wrong and it points out the danger keep making videos bro x
Neat documentary, although maybe try to use the phrase "it became apparent" a bit more sparingly.
It's so sad to feel that once I worked on security on a event where "Eddy the Eagle" did a record jump at the Ski village back in 1995. Thank You! from Ontario Canada.
This is great - loved the court, and Hallam Towers has fascinated me ever since I moved to Sheffield!
Bit's look pretty awesome for skating.
