Rakitnica is a river in central Bosnia and Herzegovina. It springs at an altitude of 1520 m. The entire length of the Rakitnica canyon is home to endemic species of flora and fauna.
There are 32 species of endemic plants, flowers and trees that live in this small region of the Dinarides. Bears, wolves, wild boars, foxes and wild goats find refuge in this hard-to-reach canyon.
With its course of 32 km, it does not pass through populated areas, and the water is drinkable from the source to the mouth. It contains brown and soft-mouthed trout (endemic) and grayling, in large quantities.
Thanks to its unique beauty and difficult accessibility, Rakitnica is a real challenge for mountaineers, alpinists, fishermen, but also lovers of untouched nature.
Rakitnica je rijeka u centralnom dijelu Bosne i Hercegovine. Izvire na nadmorskoj visini od 1520 m. Cjelokupna dužina kanjona Rakitnice je stanište endemskih vrsta flora i faune. Ovdje postoje 32 vrste endemskih biljaka, cvjetova i drveća koje žive u ovom malom regionu Dinarida. Medvjedi, vukovi, divlji veprovi, lisice i divlje koze nalaze svoje sklonište u ovom teško pristupačnom kanjonu.
Svojim tokom od 32 km ne protječe kroz naseljena mjesta, a voda je pitka od izvora do ušća. U njoj se nalaze potočna i mehkousta pastrmka (endem) i lipljan, i to u velikim količinama. Najpovoljniji dio toka za ribolov je od drumskog mosta kod sela Tušila do pješačkog mosta na stazi za Bobovicu.
Zahvaljujući svojoj jedinstvenoj ljepoti i teškoj pristupačnosti, Rakitnica predstavlja pravi izazov za planinare, alpiniste, ribolovce, ali i zaljubljenike u netaknutu prirodu.
