Finely!!! The conclusion of the diff cover testing. Great show Mr. Banks!!! I just knew we were not going to be disappointed when you completed your testing and your R & D of the new Banks diff cover. I love how you not only did the testing but proved your results. Again Mr. BANKS great job!!!!
When Mr. Banks put out his very first video, I had just ordered an AFE cover. I did a lot of careful reading to choose a cover and was blown away by the fluid dynamics design failures. Ended up just upgrading to the aluminum finned factory cover which retained the proper ring gear curve. Thanks Gale!
I can honestly say that after watching that entire video, I am extremely impressed, and that says a lot. If you have taken that much time and energy to make something as simple as a rear diff cover even better than the one from the factory, and better than pretty much anything else on the aftermarket line up, I am pretty sure that the mainstay products you originally made are just as impressive. I have been around cars, trucks and heavy equipment for more than 90% of my life, and I have heard of Banks equipment for a long time. But I haven't really gone too far into the aftermarket or hot rod section of the diesel industry. My experience with diesel is extensive, but mostly just for repair. I keep the gas side for the hot rodding. But now that I am in the market for a new 2500 series truck and pretty much getting the diesel engine option, I am definitely putting Banks on my list of improvement, aftermarket parts. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you Mr. Banks, this is the way all the good companies used to make their products. "Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door" Sadly during the 1980's most of the good American companies were bought out, sometimes with a hostile takeover, and now all any of them care about is the stock holders and how much profit they can squeeze out of the reputation the company once had, and then when they've driven it into the ground they file for chapter 11. You sir have a new customer. From this video you have inspired me to look at the other products Banks Power makes for my vehicles. Bravo sir, well done.
@ Banks Power If one actually takes Gale's statement literally, that what those "flat-back" diff covers LITERALLY are: "ass-hats". 🤭🤣😂 (He just didn't say, "pun intended"... 🤣)
It's great how he calls them asshats, saying extra fluid is bad and doesn't help with cooling, and then proves himself wrong when the aftermarket cover with the extra turbulence runs 28 degrees cooler than a stock cover and fluid amount in his test, proving the extra 3.5 quarts of fluid is helping cool by overcoming the extra turbulence and still running 28 degrees cooler. Classic 😎
That's not what I said at all. My point was he's saying extra fluid doesn't help cooling, then proves extra fluid, even with a worse design, runs cooler.
My '19 Ram is patiently waiting for me to save up for this diff cover and Banks Monster Ram intake horn! I'm sold on their R&D. And Gale seems like a nice guy and makes an entertaining video.
Watched the original series from a year ago and its amazing to see the amount of effort Banks Power has gone into over and beyond the work to engineer those, in order to give us insights and a better understanding of the engineering. Amazing. Gale Banks is the GOAT! Thank you!
As an engineer I disagree, oil and metal are good conductors of heat, I see no value in putting fins inside the cover, that is just going to create turbulence and friction, had they left those out it could be as efficient as the stock cover.
@@claycurry643 I don't remember seeing the part in the video where it says how much more efficient it is. They claim to lower temperatures but I did not see a claim for more efficiency.
I have to say that since Ive been old enough to get around on my own two feet my grandfather who is the most honest and intelligent guy I know has been a supporter for gale banks and his products even though he hasn't been able to afford to buy them most the time. After seeing this and since I recently had to put a new transfer case back half housing on his 01 Duramax last year we talked about diff covers and and I know now my gramps truck is getting one of these covers before my truck will. I work on a lot of people's vehicles after hours at my house for extra money I don't often recommend specific products because most the time your buying junk that just looks like jewels. Not with banks.
Never in my life did I ever expect I’d watch a 30 minute video on a diff cover. However I’m glad I did. I was fascinated by all the research that went into the Banks cover. It’s clear to me that the other guys just bought an off the shelf cover from a foreign supply house and just put their logos on it. Those square covers are easy to make but cause more problems than I ever expected.

Been watching Mr. Gales videos recently and after seeing the attention to detail, testing methods, and engineering that goes into his products, I've changed my mind 100%! Im going to start decking out my powerstroke bumper to bumper with his products!
Way back I tried to do the same research you guys did on gear lube. Was a huge pain getting the data I was looking for but it is reassuring that actual professionals ended up finding the same thing I did. Their severe gear stinks like hell but it holds up in Arizona summer heat hauling or on the trail. Top notch stuff.
Good job guys. Finally some true engineering. You might want to look into racing applications as well. GTR's,Corvettes, Camaro's, mustang's.... Hell even the Miata (the most raced car ever produced)
That's what I'm thinking too. Where's all of our race and muscle car applications?! Hell, we'll need them for powersports, Jeep, and other popular off-road models too! I think Gale just found the product he can retire on.
I almost skipped because of the cheezy intro. Glad i didn't. Not only was the engineering that went into this awesome, but the amount of testing, the clear and thorough explanation, and production effort put you guys over the top. Highest marks!
A centrifugal filter (spin the oil) would easily remove all the contaminants in suspension! Cheap Honda CB125 motorcycle use to have a "centrifugal filter" to catch the internal clutch particles out of engine oil. Cheap and simple design! 👍🏼
Ok, you got me Gale. I just ordered one for my Duramax. The amount of thought Gale puts into his product is amazing, and I have to say he is razer sharp.
So many backyard mechanics think that they can "improve" on the engineered system from the manufacturer. Very few people understand the actual engineering and testing that goes into the existing design. Guess what, that stock diff cover is shaped the way it is for a very good reason.
I'm an Automotive Engineer. This is the way real engineers go about their work. I am concerned the lube may be being kept too cool. Might not be driving off condensation at these lower temps and the viscosity of the oil might be staying too high for proper lube of the bearings.
Don Brutcher I agree, in low winter temps, cooling may be too much. Running in sub zero temps that ram air may be a problem. As he stated, more fluid takes too long to heat up, the same could be said for his ram air system in cold weather. In his design it may never heat up to temp.
Mike Also, Notice how he’s been bashing the flat cover as worse than factory but then his tests show they keep fluid temps down. Not that I’m a fan of flat covers, but shows bias.
@@relyenterprisestx Its abit more complicated than that. Its all about proper flow and getting things into operation temp quickly and keeping it there. The flat covers was causing it to bounce awkwardly and it doesn't cool things down right.
lol I somehow knew this was coming when they originally did the video with the clear covers. Gale Banks has certainly earned his swagger with good products over the years.
This is why your products are better than competitors, you do the important testing to actually see if the part works better than the original, everything about it has been thought about and designed so well.
Gale your a legend in the power sports world no lies or bs just quality parts that get results thank you I've been a customer for 15 years with zero issues
Gale Banks...You're The Man! I wondered about all this diff stuff back in the 70s when I had a Chevelle SS 396. No one ever did any real research concerning any of it that I could find back then. Not even the racers. Until you came along. Congrats!
Dead air is no joke. I built a dune buggy several years ago with a rear mounted radiator. It would overheat at sustained 55mph. The aerodynamics were such that at 55, the radiator wasn’t getting any air. Had to put 2 puller fans on it. I put a light on the temp relay to see when they were kicking on, the air flow would break at 52mph like clockwork.
I really enjoy your videos.....technical enough that I feel informed and educated and not so technical that I feel stupid. I installed this on my 2022 Ram 2500. I have an Edge CTS 3, so I added an EAS with a temperature sensor in the provided 1/8" NPT hole right below the sight glass. I can now monitor the rear diff temperature on the CTS 3. I ran the pickup all around on a 65 degree day (not towing) and the rear diff temp was less than 90 degrees. Once I tow I will update with the temperature seen.

@@thecustommuffler this guy Gale Banks is a smart cookie man I was gonna get one too trust me... ut I went the cheap route and just powder coated my stock one turns out that's the better route, unless you get a banks diff cover.
Jeff Thorstad where I live it’s about 75% of the vehicles on the road.
I wish all companies went through this sort of rigor to design products! As someone who is in the 3d design field i can relate to being in a meeting and the boss scrapping everything :) but this was for good reason. Looks like an amazing product!
I’ve had this on my 24 GMC 2500 for months now and It makes zero real world difference.
This guy Gale Banks is a very important person in this world! Other guys don't do enough research to make efficient and purpose built products, they just make it pretty or make it give u a boost in power with no protection for the motor/transmission, whatever makes them money. Gale Banks makes the money and stands by the product he sells and teaches the world of his products function and the research/tests he does!

Thank you
He really sold me when he called them “Ass Hats”.
@ Banks Power
If one actually takes Gale's statement literally, that what those "flat-back" diff covers LITERALLY are: "ass-hats". 🤭🤣😂
(He just didn't say, "pun intended"...
Classic 😎
@@chrisweivoda9592 So double the amount of oil you pay for to make up for shitty design?
That's not what I said at all. My point was he's saying extra fluid doesn't help cooling, then proves extra fluid, even with a worse design, runs cooler.
My '19 Ram is patiently waiting for me to save up for this diff cover and Banks Monster Ram intake horn! I'm sold on their R&D. And Gale seems like a nice guy and makes an entertaining video.

I had a feeling that there was some serious research happening while I waited for this “season finale”. Well done. This is a 2019 best video.
Watched the original series from a year ago and its amazing to see the amount of effort Banks Power has gone into over and beyond the work to engineer those, in order to give us insights and a better understanding of the engineering. Amazing. Gale Banks is the GOAT! Thank you!
Thank you for the Kudos!
This is my kind of guy. Don't put anything out unless you know everything about it! I salute you Mr. Banks.
I've been looking forward to this
@Andrew Crews muahahaha
I was searching for a video thinking I missed something. This episode took a while
Good things come to those that wait. Yes i am one of those that has been waiting. I remember when Gale first started to talk about this.
Andrew Crews that’s a dooku line
The amount of engineering and work into this damn diff cover is Insanity
Tony Stone the devil is in the details
That's how you know it's a quality product. If he will put that much research into a simple diff cover image how much he puts into the other products
As an engineer I disagree, oil and metal are good conductors of heat, I see no value in putting fins inside the cover, that is just going to create turbulence and friction, had they left those out it could be as efficient as the stock cover.
@@mbox314 but it's more efficient than stock. That's whe whole point. Why would they make it "as efficient as stock"
@@claycurry643 I don't remember seeing the part in the video where it says how much more efficient it is. They claim to lower temperatures but I did not see a claim for more efficiency.
You can always count on Banks to give us the info that’s actually useful , and school the comp in the process 👍🏼
Banks keep giving us the facts and you will always have me my dad and my grandfather standing behind your products. I work on a lot of people's vehicles after hours at my house for extra money I don't often recommend specific products because most the time your buying junk that just looks like jewels. Not with banks.
Part of me is now sold on having an illuminated transparent differential cover.... that was not supposed to happen.
That would be sweet. Imagine if the lube could be made to glow under ultra violet light.
They make them. Search for clear differential cover.

Thank you gale for putting in the time and engineering into everything you make!
Don't gotta be first with a product just be the best product available. Love banks technology
I dont know why I watched this. I dont do trucks. I drive a ricemobile. I wish i could buy things from this man. dude just builds things better then everyone else then proves it.
a good experienced engineer's intuition is indespensable. banks took one good look at the other diff covers and he just knew something wasn't right.
Gotta say I love how honestly Gale is. Even showed it's only weak point and says " if you do that I'll give you another" now that's a stand up dude. Keep up the good work, and making stuff that's actually useful!
It's not a weak point, that was purposely designed that way just in case you hit a rock.
He's a legend in the automotive world for a reason!

Will Gale Banks run for president? Man of science, man of reason...
I don't even own a truck I would need this diff cover on, but this is a great and super informative video and these giuys really know their stuff. Cheers to Gale Banks and Banks Power.
I’ve been waiting for this moment since Dale started this over a year ago, now it’s time to list my Mag Hytec on Craiglist while I order one of this. 🇺🇸👍🏻 we love you Mr Banks!

Man, Ive always thought Banks products were overrated and overpriced. Been watching Mr. Gales videos recently and after seeing the attention to detail, testing methods, and engineering that goes into his products, I've changed my mind 100%! Im going to start decking out my powerstroke bumper to bumper with his products!
Never been excited for a diff cover video. I've been waiting for the final product
My gosh Gale you are one sharp man!! Thank you for doing the research for lubricating the differential.
I almost skipped because of the cheezy intro. Glad i didn't. Not only was the engineering that went into this awesome, but the amount of testing, the clear and thorough explanation, and production effort put you guys over the top. Highest marks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
You’ve perfected the diff cover, now what can you do with a transmission pan?🧐
I'm waiting on that lol I hope he does
A centrifugal filter (spin the oil) would easily remove all the contaminants in suspension!
Cheap Honda CB125 motorcycle use to have a "centrifugal filter" to catch the internal clutch particles out of engine oil. Cheap and simple design!

Finally!!!! Fantastic work!
Been waiting for this for months.
Now I just need you guys to support D44 and D35.
What he said. Us Jeep guys need help real bad!
This is amazing insight to proper design. Would love to see a comparison vs the T/A Differential girdle.
In his design it may never heat up to temp.
it looks like you could plug the holes to prevent air ramming in.
I think the biggest problem he pointed out with the flat covers was the work(hp loss, heat) being put into the oil.
lol I somehow knew this was coming when they originally did the video with the clear covers.
Gale Banks has certainly earned his swagger with good products over the years.
Would like to have seen the fluid flow inside the new Banks cover, using a clear prototype similar to the other covers they tested.
Me too. And why didn't he show his??
@Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee53d print or acrylic mould
This is why your products are better than competitors, you do the important testing to actually see if the part works better than the original, everything about it has been thought about and designed so well.

Awesome I would like to see you test the 75w 90 vs 75w 140 and see if the heat is any different
Probably the same oil temps.
This is how research and great testing works! You guys do an awesome job with everything you make!
Thank you! Cheers!
When are y’all going to make them for light duty trucks?
You’re going to be waiting a while. Best to just weld on a little air scoop that does the same thing.
there is no need for a re-engineered diff cover so there is no part.
@@glasser2819 You mean the engineers actually knew what they were doing when the designed the stock diff cover? Heresy!

I really enjoy your videos.....technical enough that I feel informed and educated and not so technical that I feel stupid. Every shop class in Ammerica should be privy to your video series as a form of educational model...you should really look into that. YESSSS I feel like I've been waiting for this for over a year!! I need this cover for a 2015 Silverado 1500. I want a drain plug, fill plug, and some type of sight glass. I dont care if its 600 bucks. I. WILL. BUY.
Jeff Schmit hahahahah
Its not just a feeling, it has been over a year lol
One of the best explanations I have ever seen on something that covers every aspect of the subject.
The only question I am left with is... where do you buy that little angled flashlight!?
At the dentist. LOL
Probably a bore light, you can find one at a gun store.
This was so entertaining "and" informative! The information was presented in a way that made the science fun as well as easy to understand. I almost want to buy one. But then I'd have to buy a truck to put it on. On the other hand, if you happen to make one for a '70 GTO 8.2 inch 10 bolt - I'm your man! Great job!
