This is the main theme to the 1980-1982 version of the Goodson-Todman American game show "Blockbusters" which aired on NBC. The music is composed by Bob Cobert.
“This is the battlefield for our game of speed and strategy. These are the letters that will lead to victory on ‘Blockbusters’! And now here’s the star of ‘Blockbusters’, BILL CULLEN!!”
My all-time favorite parts of the show are the theme song and lighting effects. 🌚 The theme song, moreover reminds me of the bassist at the Baptist Church I went to in my childhood!😀
The handicap was actually pretty fair in the 1980-1982 run. I just recently watched the final episodes, in its run, there have been 37 solo player contestants win and go to 175 gold runs, and there have been 45 family pairs that have gone to 175 gold runs. Not a bad split!
@@TwinMillMC opinion based but okay. Personally I would rather answer 4 questions correctly by myself rather than answer 5 because I gotta carry a family member that sits next to me and never buzzes in, which happened a lot with the pairs.

Actually if you check your facts, "Blockbusters" aired on American television first and then in England. So this show is an American show, not a British show.
Sale Of the Century. And we all know who we can thank for SOTC's ever-changing end games: NBC, the network that aired it. They wanted to save on the show's budget, and look where it led, to cancellation in 1989!
(The Late) Bill Cullen did a brilliant job hosting "Blockbusters" on NBC Television. I liked the theme for its jazzy sound and its panache. A Solid 6!!

Funny you should mention that… Bob Cobert actually included a Synth version of this theme (look up Blockbusters Unused Theme) in the event that Goodson-Todman would have preferred a more futuristic theme. Thankfully Bobby Sherman made the right choice (or so they say-what IS true is that he did in fact receive a copy of the Master Tape of the entire sound package for his consideration)

Blockbusters is one of my favorite Bill Cullen shows. I liked the original 1980-82 version better than the 1987 version myself. I even had the Milton Bradley 1982 home game for a while. Incidentally, I just re-bought the 1982 Milton Bradley Blockbusters home game on eBay.
@eminemster2000 lol you know nothing, Blockbusters was made in the USA. the british copied us. so your version ruined the original. lol just joking, the british theme was great, but i dont like the blue hexagons for some reason and i dont like the fact that the contestants dont win 5,000 pounds for a sucessful gold run. otherwise it was great
The Independent Broadcasting Authority had a game show prize winnings limit of £6,000 an episode until 1993. Besides, what was a high schooler going to do with £5,000 cash anyway?
Bill Cullen did a great job hosting Blockbusters. I liked whenever the contestants played Gold Run on Blockbusters.

Rich Jefferies also did that announcing, for that same game show.
@paullarue2010 he announced the last 2 weeks and the entire run of the 1987 version.

One of the best game show themes!

Even if it was a British show first, it likely would have been a watered down diarrhea mess.

Blockbusters used to be daily @ 3:00PM after Match Game @ 2:30PM and before Lingo @ 3:30PM on GSN (Get in the Game).
That's exactly what the '87 Blockbusters theme was, generic production music that was used as CBS-TV promo music in the late 80's, early 90's.
Can we bring this show back, please? Come on, ABC!
Blockbusters aired on NBC (1980-82, 1987). Bill Cullen was the host for the 1980-82 version. For the 1987 version, it was hosted by Bill Rafferty.
No game show could ever deserve or "live up to" this theme.

I love how KSHE95 and the Morning Show use this to introduce their game "30 second Song Challenge". ❤😁

I really like this game show. It tests to see if two heads really better than one, according to a myth.

Aarrrghh!!!! Stumbling across this has destroyed all my precious memories of Bob Holness! :D di-di-di di-dee di-de-deee....
To be fair, the US did Blockbusters first. The UK took the show across the pond and improved upon it.

Rose Supreme If I’m not mistaken the style used here by the late Bob Cobert was “Blues Progression”
