I was at home in Canada. Where were you? The real question should be, 'Why didn't anyone that was there intervene?' The answer is right in front of you - because they were too busy making a UA-cam video. People would rather record everything and post it then actually be involved.
They were told not to, the oil companies wanted to make sure the words "Just Stop Oil" is synonymous with annoying vandals. Once its done enough, even mentioning that maybe oil companies are bad will make people think you're another anti oil freak.
Little Asian lady does more for historic artifacts than any man watching at any of these places.

Just Stop Oil is funded by Climate Emergency Fund. Climate Emergency fund was co-founded by Aileen Getty, who is heiress to the Getty oil fortune. Aileen claims to feel guilty about her family's business and that is why she is an "activist". It seems to me that this movement makes environmentalism look bad, which would be useful to Aileen and her family.

How to make people despise your cause:
I'm torn. The climate crisis is an existential threat and we must take huge action to save our planet. Plus they weren't spray painting, that was fire extinguishers with colored chalk or whatever. It will likely was off in a couple rains...however doing this kind of thing to heritage monuments..it may he fine this time, but the next time might ruin them forever. These are important keys to our shared past and MUST be protected. On the other land, who's gonna protect them when we've all died from extreme climate events?
