      I'm genuinely baffled that the Northstar V-8 engine worked great in the Buick Lucerne but not in the Cadillac DeVille.

      @@JohnC-rz7cy No, I don't. However I was surprised when I saw an ad for the Buick Lucerne that revealed the car had the Northstar V-8 engine because people who owned a Cadillac DeVille complained about how the engine ate head gaskets and blew after reaching a certain number of miles on the odometer.

    I had a Buick Lurcern and put 250k on it in the first few years, the car never let me down and I loved how it ran, I was ruined in a flood during a hurricane. The only problem it has that I know of is the door handles are a weak design and will break easily in the winter when some ice gets on them

    I really love Buicks from the 1990's, 2000's and a portion of the 2010's. A coworker of mine drives a Buick LaCrosse and I am always blown away by the softness of the leather seats and impressive leg room when she gives me a ride home from work. Her son is rather tall; which was the biggest motivating factor for her to buy her Buick LaCrosse, so he can have ample amounts of leg room. Back in 2010; Motor Trend magazine did a comparison of the Buick LaCrosse and the Lexus ES350 and the Buick beat the Lexus in regards to rear seat leg room. The rear seat leg room of a Buick LaCrosse is so ample you can stretch your legs, cross your ankles and slump to your hearts content. By comparison; the rear seat of the Lexus ES350 is terribly cramped as your knees are whisking up against the backs of the front seat.

    Good luck. Other seals are your ongoing concern. Engine, AC, Brakes, etc.
    93 isn't any better than 87. The higher Octane rating gas is needed only in cars with higher compression else it will be exploding too soon under the higher pressure. So don't waste your money if it doesn't require it. Maybe 89 during the hot summer helps once in a while though. But you should buy Tier One gas to ensure you have high detergent.
    Speaking of which, you should change that oil out once a month for a few months. And full flush on Radiator too. Get rid of any Dexcool red stuff. Highly acidic and eats your seals. Put the regular green stuff in after full flush.

    • @Hudge76
      @Hudge76 Рік тому +3

      I’m no mechanic, but I have fixed some peoples screw ups I was in the military with. They had their Dexcool coolant removed and went to normal green and their cars overheated. If it is made to run Dexcool run Dexcool, there’s a reason.

      @@Hudge76 dexcool turns acidic way faster than the green stuff, which is no big deal but no one maintains their cars correctly anymore. I've got regular green stuff in my 2003 Buick and if anything it runs a bit cooler than it should, and I'm in Florida.

    • @willallen7757

      Green stuff has silicates, great for corrosion resistant but not required for odb2 common Chevy vehicles. The recommended orange zerex dexcool antifreeze is organic in acidity therefore less corrosive to Chevy motors.

It appears i may be a water pump not the dreaded head gasket. Its been off the road for a year and i keep it stored and start it up couple times a month and go up and down the driveway to keep everything moving and park it before the temp creeps up. Will shops even fix a northstar heard stories of owners being told to kick rocks.

But one thing about owning these is that alot of things break down, They cost money to maintain and anyone that owns one knows they ride great but needs to be maintain all the time... But most of the time there easy to work on. I just spent over 3500 for to have my transmission rebuilt cause the trans band broke.....still cheaper then another car. Its just like your car, Your car needs a good compound and buff wax with a buffer machine....Good luck with it.

They along with the late 90's Park Avenue Ultra, late 90's Century, late 90's Regal, Riviera coupe, 2000s LeSabre and even the Buick Rendezvous, Enclave, Rainier and Terrazza hold a special place in my heart.

    No oil change? Tires and wipers dry rotted after three years, so will your serpentine belt and hoses. If you made it home like that you were being guided by the Lord. Pro tip, don't buy Goodyear tires from Walmart. Yes they look good now and ride like you're floating on a cloud but give it 10-15k miles and they will always feel like your riding over dirt gravel roads. Walmart worked out a deal with Goodyear and they don't sell the same quality tires as other tire dealers, that's why you got a better price. Trust me I bought Goodyear tires at Walmart once too. Never again.

    I love Buicks. But I really hope that's the 3.8 and not the 4.6.
    Northstar had a bad reputation with Cadillac but those 3.8 v6 motors run well over 350k possibly more given proper maintenance to the timing of heads and valves, crankcase and lubricating systems. The Buick 3.8 is a work horse, been in many vehicles for decades including the gnx and Grand nationals but they were turbo. Still the 3.8 v6 is a true 90 degree block similar to a V8. This combination of balance provides longevity.
    Awesome find and great work. Would love to see that in heavy metal customs.
