Yes Carlo was one of the guys who really got me into the organ seriously. He was a phenomenal player but totally unaffected and down to earth. He always had time for you and would talk music and organs for hours and was a brilliant raconteur. He always remembered names too. You could be introduced to him briefly and then at a concert years later it would be "Ahhhh Matthew so lovely to see you!" in that big booming voice. God Bless and Rest in a Peace Carlo!
Carlo,,what can ever be said about you except the music you have given to the world of organ can not be counted its so astounding. We miss you beyond words and you left us too soon. Thank you Carol for bringing this interview to us. David Snyder, Lumierist Creator of Virgil Fox Heavy Organ Touring Production.
Really a great treasure of an organist, personality, North Carolinian, keeper of a great traditional flame - a shame about his passing all too early. But that's life, always a surprise, sometimes not a good one.
I laughed at Carlo's recollections of George Thalben Ball, as I knew him a little. It was a perfect description of him. I saw Carlo play a few times: he even tapped out the subject of Bach's great A minor fugue on my young son's head, on one occasion. Much missed.
