I’ve still got my pace stick lol😂
My wife bought me it for Sandhurst but I’m shit at it 🤣
Hahah nice of her. I healthy brought one when I was at Pirbright but never did wish I had though even though I hated pace stick drill 😂😂
My great grandfather was a Grenadier in the Boer war. Joined the East Surreys in 14. Lasted 10 weeks.
´If it ain´t raining, we aren´t training´ 🤣
I remember being on a school hiking trip (as it is custom in Germany) near an army training base. It was shit weather, when we met an officer and his driver who couldn´t quite grasp seeing 30 teenager marching thru the rain and singing along. He was curious enough to ask our teacher jokingly how he persuade us to do so as his soldiers would rather stay in the barracks.
Re beards, look at photos of Crimean War guardsmen, the beards they had! And they wore bearskins and scarlets into battle too.
Other pacestick shoots are blocked! Not surprised - back to Pirbright in many cases methinks!
Only the Navy should have beards.
This gotta be just about the most Bri'ish thing I ever did see 😅❤
Are beards allowed now in the army? and Does it always rain at Wellington baracks?
It's allowed in the Danish armed forces, but must ofcourse be well trimmed at all times.
During the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. the big beard look came into fashion in the Danish army. Especially amongst the deployed.
long hair for men have been allowed since the 70's, in the Danish navy. The Danish navalty tried to ban it, but the conscripts at the time pointed to the paintings of all of our old naval heroes, and pointed out the fact that they all had long hair. And the navalty had to surrender. 😅
Jesus Christ my old Drill Pig Drill Sgt Harding of the Scots Guards from Junior Leaders Regiment R.A would have a heart attack if he saw those lot. They are supposed to be able to deliver Drill instructions not still be at the learning stage. As for beards totally wrong. You don't get as diverse as the French Foreign Legion and they do not cowtail to any demographic in their Uniform and discipline. They are not having difficulties in their recruitment numbers with this woke generation.
Can somebody please tell what the f is the purpose of walking with that stick?
Some relic from 1500ish?
I thought that US Marines “thing” where they throw and stare their rifle is ridiculous enough.
Hahah 😂 their is no purpose to this
The pace stick is adjustable to the size of an actual marching pace. It’s idea to get guards to march in unison so that when you watch them on TV it looks immaculate 👍🏻
@@TrevorCoult_MC Thank you. Now I know.
The pace stick is a very useful aid to drill. it goes back to the Romans as so many things do. On the cross bar, there are a series of settings that can be adjusted and screwed tight. By far the most common setting is set at 30" the British Army marching pace length. it opens up even further to stepping out which is 33". With the pace stick and the marching paces of slow (65 paces per min) and quick time (116 paces per min) a Warrant Officer ie (Garrison Sergeant Major) can measure and mark up an entire ceremonial route and parade. He can figure out how many men are required to street line, which points all the half companies will form up and how long it will take them to arrive from say Wellington Barracks, then each unit knows which time to step off. He can mark up very complex parades such as Trooping the colour and check all the forming up points which are permanently marked are still correct and haven't been moved. he can also mark and check scratch lines used for state visits etc... he can also check the distance between ranks and the interval between soldiers accurately.
Closed it is carried under the left arm and the hinged end held by the left hand. In this closed position, it can also be used to quote the late great GSM Alan (Perry) Mason, Coldstream Guards "to inject enthusiasm into idle soldiers". In the hands of a skilled and knowledgeable Warrant Officer, the pace stick is very useful modern tool indeed.
