Its amazing how the 'Duke' runs so much better now than it did during British Railways days. Restorers must have put in a great deal of work. It's a delight to see it in full-flight.
Apart from other issues, Swindon did not fit the intended Kylchap exhaust ejectors. Apocryphally, they fitted two assemblies from a Dean Goods! Whatever, correct ejectors to suit the valve characteristics are essential. I think it was deliberately sabotaged because it would have made the Deltics not look bad exactly but certainly no improvement. Diesel and electric was the policy and the new class 8 would not be allowed to show them up.
Great clip. You were closer to the line than I was, but had the same problem with the wind blowing the sound away until the loco was almost on top of you. The Scot took me by surprise as well Mike
@rab4472 Thanks Mike, first time I had filmed at Ais Gill...superb place. I like getting closer the action, but as your footage showed, getting that bit further back gets that stunning pan across. I only heard about the Scot from a few other enthusiasts on arrival. I had a feeling she would be directly following 71000. Cheers Tom
@robmasterman Cheers Bob, I'm starting to get the Knack of the Tripod now....71000 passing wasn't to bad as it was only really spitting....but once 46115 came by, as you can see it was rather heavy.....worth it though ;-)
bril video please can you tell me exacly where you filmed this a post code would be appreciated we live in manchester bringing the kids in 3 weeks to the scotsman flaten this hill as it up hear end of jan going seeing her tomorrow on ELR Bury any help would be muv=ch appreciated
@stephengthompson Hi Steve. Was a surprise to me as I didn't know anything about it...and judging by the photographers walking off...then me shouting 'SCOTS GUARDSMAN' and them darting to get there equipment out....I guess they didn't either ;-) Was well worth the rain, seeing two Steam locos in 5 mins! :D First time to Ais GIll too!

Great clip. You were closer to the line than I was, but had the same problem with the wind blowing the sound away until the loco was almost on top of you. The Scot took me by surprise as well
