- The French build more yachts than any other country. One reason is that they provide French investors with big tax incentives who help finance yachts to stimulate the tourism economies in their overseas territories of St Martin, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Tahiti.This creates buying opportunities for second-hand catamarans phasing out of their charter fleets. Because these sellers are not as concerned with "selling price" as "selling when they need to roll over the investment capital". I explain this in more detail in this video. Vive la France!
What would be your top 5 or top 10 most reliable catamarans?
According to the experienced catamaran surveyors: Leopards are purpose-built to handle many weeks of charter and tend to "age" the best . Lagoons are good but the interiors fall apart with "fit and finish" issues which are more cosmetic than structural. Privileges are very well built; maybe the best built. Fountaine Pajots are getting better but don't hold up too well. Balis need to have the bugs worked out but are making progress and have some great innovations. Everything else are semi-custom builds which have their own issues.
Yachts International how about Bavaria/Nautitech? And I’ve noticed the same thing with the USD-Euro exchange rates, currently about 1.09 USD.. Leopards are pretty pricey at the moment, esp the 45
@@Catamarans I'm considering coming to the Miami boat show in February. So you like leopards? I've talked to a few other sailors and brokers who have less than positive things to say.

Do you think that the off set would account for the lost of the dollar. We are talking Canadian dollars .(33%) Would this French boat sale, timing included with seller ,could help alleviate the Lost In dollar value?
I have no problem upgrading the boat , A/C etc.....thought ???
Hi Jim, you have to look at "what the yacht will cost you in Canadian dollars". I can show you a fast way to determine this. If the yacht looks like a good deal then I recommend talking action quickly.I used to trade currencies and options and can tell you that normally currencies do not make huge moves in a few days; rather, currencies get into long term trends and tend to stay in a narrow trading range when we are talking about a couple weeks of exposure. So your exposure when doing a yacht purchase is not so great unless we are seeing some extraordinary situation like Brexit, Frexit or some Central Bank manipulating rates (which they love to do but there is now big political pressure on them to stop these shenanigans) which could cause large short term spikes. There are ways to lock in forward contracts to protect yourself.
So how does one find a tax shelter boat?
Hi Bob, just go on my website LargeCatamaransForSale.com and search for your "model of choice" and whenever you see a yacht lying in St Martin, Martinique, Guadeloupe or Tahiti that is 5-6 years old, it is probably a tax-shelter boat.
