  • The Oakland California Temple is an enduring Bay Area landmark that shines like a beacon from the Oakland Hills, directly across from San Francisco. A lengthy renovation was just completed on the 55-year-old temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The public is now invited to see inside the modernism-style temple that hasn't had an open house since its original completion in 1964.

This temple has such a wonderful place in my heart, not so much because of the architecture, that is nice, but because of the SPIRIT of GOD I felt within the walls of this temple when I was younger and served there. I will never forget. I was also married and sealed to my wife in this temple many years ago. The experiences of the temple ceremonies, the baptisms, the priesthood ordinances, all came with powerful manifestations of the Spirit of God... the Holy Ghost. These testimony building experiences I had there, I will never forget. Testimonies that what goes on there is indeed validated and approved by God, even though we people are NOT perfect, God is in it, and God desires that people be sealed together for all time and eternity, in the grand family of God the Eternal Father. The priesthood ordinances in the temple are the gateway to what Jesus taught about, where he said In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you.

I never knew that this was an LDS church. I'm truly shocked, but not really. It's beautiful. I remember watching it glow as a child going to my grandma's house nearly every Friday night traveling on 580.

I grew up in the Bay Area and I have to say this is my favorite Temple. I have moved away, but I was always captivated by the temple’s beauty and I always looked for it when I would be in the area. I took the Temple grounds tour several times and I loved the feeling of The Spirit while I was there. I joined the church when I was 18 and later got to attend the Temple many times. I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with all my heart and now know why I was always drawn to the Temple. I also absolutely love how the chandelier in the Celestial room makes tinkling sounds from the air conditioning, it’s such a heavenly sound. 🥰

Does my question make you feel uncomfortable?
Maybe I should ask about the $2B shopping centre built in Salt Lake City by the church.
Of course not from the tithings right? Just the hard working businesses owned by the church? Sounds like something Jesus would be super proud of.
A few fresh water wells in villages of starving families would be such a waste.
Wait. I can hear your smooth brain, ‘b b b b but if the shopping centre does well financially, then we can do more for starving children’.
The church gives less than 1% to charity and trades in over $32B on the stock market.
It has been confirmed that the church has only given $1.2B to charity over 30 years.
It has had consistent growth in revenue since 1991 when it received $4.7B in donations that year, to $33B in 2010 from donations and $15B from other business ventures.
Do you think that if a church member was asked, ‘would you rather we give the $8,000 for this set of good door handles, to starving children and maybe have good quality gold coloured door handles that cost $400’? That church members would say, ‘no, we need that money spent in our beautiful temples, so we can feel that slice of heaven while we spend 1% or less on charity’?
I highly doubt it. I think a little more highly of my Mormon friends.
Mormon church members are amazing people mostly and based on the figures, you are finding a corporation that does not have charity work and helping others at the forefront. Not by a long stretch. Other religions give up to 80% to charity.
Speaking of the $2B shopping centre, I may be wrong. It may have been built for all the homeless and vulnerable and unfortunate and least among the community as Christ would have done, had he lived in this era.
A pair of religion jeans costs $200 in one of the stores in that shopping centre. How ironic.
I’m sure the so said ‘Christ’ would be turning in his tomb if he saw the financial hypocrisy down by a church that uses his name.

Do you really think a true disciple of Christ’s teachings, needs this mishandling of finances to opulence over practicality?
You know you could build 10 commercial standard beautiful temples for the price of one right? That’s if you went with stainless steel over gold plated. That’s if temple things are so important. Perhaps there are other reasons behind such frivolous use of funds.
      I’m still ‘trolling’?

Our great Uncle Arthur Price would take us through the building area (early 1960) as he was the attending church architect in his older age. He was very very exact on having us understand that if one would take a plumb bob from the very top of the center spire, it would land right in the center of the baptismal font (which is below ground). Also the exactness of the center of Jesus Christ on the granite sculpture goes right down the cascading waterfall (which has been restored again thankfully!) representing the flowing life of our faith in Jesus Christ. All the beautiful granite is from Raymond quarry in the foothills of CA near me. I look forward to walking through this temple next week! Thank you for the preview here.

Read LDS history. I hv a Seminary book from 1969 in which you would not recognize as teachings from today. What happened in the temple in the 80's and before is easy to find out. You really do not know about how your life will be taken if you don't keep all the promises you made in the temple? Many changes have been made because those promises are so Masonic and evil. I used to hv to obey my husband!.... not any more...veil my face? .... not anymore. The Bible tells us what it takes to be saved. We are saved by Grace and Faith in Jesus Christ and nothing more is needed...especially not a $3,000 fake flower adornment nor crystal chandeliers! Jesus taught the downtrodden, poor and lowly without all the crazy pomp.

I received my endowments there in 2003, and attended many weddings and cultural events there over the years as a young man and young adult. I have always LOVED SO MANY things about this place, and hope that everyone who has the opportunity to enjoy the Open House will do so. I was baptized in December of that year and went there with Church groups as a youth, and then endowed there prior to serving a 2 year Mission for the Church. My siblings participated in Temple Pageants there. Later when my wife and kids lived in the Bay Area again, after college, etc. it was the Temple (and Multi-Stake Area Events Center) that we went to as often as we could. My parents also served as ordinance workers in this beautiful Temple for over 25 years. It is a very sacred and special place for my family. Thank Heaven it has been preserved and restored, including Oriental designs, and especially the exterior front water displays.

This was our temple in our stakes in Salem, Oregon in the 1970s. I remember the nightlong trips in buses and maxi vans, then a day of ordinances, and another nightlong journey back to Salem, getting back home just in time to get ready for our sabbath meetings. It seemed like a small sacrifice back then, and oh so worthwhile. It brings tears to my eyes remembering. . .

That bridal room, 🤩 when I was young, we had mini youth conferences there, was also sealed to my parents & 2 older sisters long ago, sure miss those days… finding out later in life, the church isn’t for singles, it centers around the family, some of us really don’t have that family

This beautiful temple is highly visible from the freeways on either side of it.
I taught dance to children for a long time in the Laurel District, one freeway exit south of the temple. Sometimes little girls would come to class and excitedly tell me, "Teacher! I just saw a princess castle!"
I can see how the temple looks like a castle to children 😂❤❤❤

Lesson learned: when designing temples include windows and avoid fad-like features (doing so with the Provo and Ogden temples would have saved quite a bit of money in the cost of redesigning these two temples).

Jesus was perfect, and he was perfect so he could give his perfection to us as a gift. Consider the completed action in this Scripture: For by a single offering he [Jesus] has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified (Hebrews 10:14).
Lucifer says, “Make you aprons.” In effect, do some of it yourself-it’s the only way to preserve some semblance of pride, dignity, and self-respect, and to gain for yourself what you need. That is quite consistent with the instructions every Latter-day Saint is given before going through the temple endowment ceremony.
Your Endowment is, to receive all those ordinances in the House of the Lord, which are necessary for you, to enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father, passing the angels who stand as sentinels, being enabled to give them the key words, the signs and the tokens, pertaining to the Holy Priesthood, and thus gain your eternal exaltation.
Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). In effect, “I’ve done it for you, all of it. Now are you willing to humble yourself enough to simply take it?”
As long as you are trying to contribute anything of your own to merit God’s provision of eternal life in His presence, you are rejecting the gift of Jesus Christ’s finished work on your behalf.
Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). (Nowhere in the Scriptures does Jesus say anything about an apron…or grips…or signs and tokens.) You can trust Jesus.

Ah, you don't read your scriptures, or you just gloss over certain scriptures that say that there ARE works to be accomplished: "If you love me keep my commandments." (Works) When the rich young man asked Jesus what he needed to DO to attain eternal life, Jesus quoted several of the Ten Commandments. The young man stated that he'd kept them from his childhood. (Again, WORKS). But Jesus added one more thing: to sell all that he had (a work) and give the money to the poor (a work) and to come, follow him. Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is filled with WORKS that must be accomplished. James said that "...faith without works is DEAD."
So are you buying your way into heaven with these works? Nope. What you're doing is learning how to purify yourself so that you can enter the kingdom of heaven, because no unclean thing can dwell with God. Jesus NEVER intended for us to sit back on our butts, drinking beer and watch football for the rest of our lives while HE does all the work.

So many hundreds of millions of dollars spent...instead of creating homes for those who are homeless and sick!! People in poverty would have seen the light of Christ had the money been given to people suffering!! Christ lived in poverty with just one robe..He DIDN'T want this!!

    • @terryslade6240
      @terryslade6240 2 роки тому

The LDS church donates millions of dollars every year to feed the hungry and alleviate suffering ANYWHERE in the world. They donate food, clothing, medicine, building materials, wheelchairs, volunteer labor ("Helping Hands"), volunteer medical care, and other services, like drilling wells for people in Africa and other disadvantaged nations and peoples, building dwellings and donating building materials. Whenever there's a catastrophe ANYWHERE in the world, the LDS church is usually the first on-site with food, clothing, medicine, etc.
The church's welfare system is SECOND TO NONE! Every Stake Center (an authority over several wards, or congregations) in the church has what's called a "Bishop's Storehouse" where food, clothing, furniture, etc. are given to the poor and destitute. In addition, the church sponsors NUMEROUS programs to help people become self-reliant.
In one year alone (I think it was 2012), the church's donations topped a billion dollars.
      What more do you want?
What do YOU do to alleviate suffering around the world?

Amazing building but I guess everyone could do that with so much money.
Can someone tell me the reason for no windows in the majority of a Temple? I am genuinely curious, thank you

Many temples, such as the San Diego and the Newport Beach California Temples, have large windows in their Celestial Rooms facing toward the sun at midday, so that the beauty of natural light will enter the room, shining onto chandeliers and other decorative aspects of the room. The brightness of the gentle, naturally sparkling sunlight in the Celestial Room adds a beauty and stillness and peacefulness to the experience of just sitting and pondering in the quietness of the room. The serenity one feels in the Temples cannot be duplicated anywhere else.
The only reason I can think of that some temples appear to not have many windows might be because they are usually constructed of stone, typically granite, and some are constructed of large slabs, where putting in a window would not be practical. However, even though they have stone facings, many of the newer temples incorporate many large windows in their design. Since there are now many temples being constructed around the world each year, I suggest that you go to the Church’s website, churchofjesuschrist.org and look for the tab that takes you to the list of all of temples around the world, and find the newer ones, and you will most likely notice that the newer ones usually have many windows. 😊
