I think that lernt language knowledge, such as grammatically structures (but not necessarily complete and detailed rules) greatly speeds up language acquisition, as I find that language at the (i + 1)+ level can just as easily be acquired at the i + 1 level, as the lernt knowledge makes more input comprehensible in the first place. This is missing from the model, as Krashen thinks lernt knowledge is only useful for monitoring. I disagree.
So, learnt knowledge about grammar and even customs is a booster to language acquisition.
