The suggestion was NOT to live on the streets in the Philippines...I was suggesting for some in America, living in their car can be a good way to save money and condition themselves to a real minimalist lifestyle. And I never said to live that way indefinitely.
Absolutely right. Many expatriates in the Philippines tend to flaunt their possessions, and some even portray themselves as millionaires from the US. However, a modest home and a loving wife and family are truly all that one needs.
Good advice sir, my American brother in law is going to the Philippines tomorrow by himself, my sister stayed here in the US cause of her work, my brothers and sisters are all excited 😆
Well, as an American wife I’ve been planning ahead for our retirement in the Philippines. We have few businesses already there which my family managing it and already built the house so anytime from now we will just going to sell our entire stuff in America and still live good in the Philippines. But as sole American and going to find his life in the Philippines then that would be the good advice on that case.
Exactly what I did to retire early. When I shop I always say no initially to buying something that interests me & think about it. If I can't justify NEEDING it or at least really wanting it, I walk out without buying it.
Great idea buddy. i am also a trucker in the USA. i am part filipino. My grandfather was a German man who moved to the philippines. USA is getting way too expensive. i plan to live in philippines high mountains where it is cooler. i do not want to spend a fortune on air conditioning😂

$1700 a month and 100k in the bank you can live just fine. No habits, not simping buying your women every dam thing, stay on budget. Philippines is for anybody that lives like a minimalist.
And this is not easy. But yes it's a big deal. We could all gain from this really. Most of us are guilty, not just people in the west.. We buy stuff we don't really need.. We keep stuff too
Well assuming you can find a safe place to sleep or your car, sure why not? I had plenty of good times on the streets and meeting homeless people. It beats paying $1000usd to sleep in a padded cell and pay a lord of the land (i.e Landlord) or a mortgage paying interest to the banks... We're to soft as Americans, it's good training and experience- especially for an expat who wants to live in the Philippines.
I am pretty much a minimalist here in the US so thinking i could make the adjustment and live over there on the cheap. I still do not have AC here in the US.

Hey Trucker, when are you gonna stop working and retire here in the Philippines for good. I can use an extra hand in my farm growing cacao and mangoes. 😅😂
welp... I agree with the minimalism. but living in a car? that's kinda too much. you'll have issues with personal hygiene and safety. if you park and sleep on the roadside, you're at risk of mischief or worse, robbery. you'll be safe on camp sites but most have fees. there are cheap houses for rent here for around 4k - 5k pesos(even 1.5k to 2k but expect to live in urban poor areas). if y'all plan to set in for a loooong time, we also have "rent-to-own" houses like, camella homes for example. you might even wanna try to look for cheap foreclosed properties tho you better know the red flags. cars? some banks in here offer good repos with untouched engines and short odo's.
the point is while you're still living in US, and planning to move the rest of your life in the PH. Train yourself to be content and live poorer than your current poor situation. I mean, because American's Lower Class are equivalent to Philippines Upper-Mid Class.
I hear you brother I don't live on much never had a bank loan on my life but now I going to go buy another motorcycle but it's just too cool to pass up it's a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Drifter Indian it's hard to sell anything here in the Ozarks it sure as heck can't trust anybody to watch over your stuff there ain't anybody they steal it while I'm here😢😊

Yes you can buy a house and successfully sell it for profit to. It's not all about the money though.
Agree!
It's also just an experiment to challenge and condition yourself to live a minimalist lifestyle.
