I hated Shane till I saw his arc, his story really seems like the most real person in the game, he overcomes addiction cures his depression and becomes a pretty nice guy. Unlike every body else he seems like somebody I'd actually meet.
I like his story in general, but I don’t like how his romance plays out. Gives very “I can fix him 😍😍” vibes for me.

I cannot get over Maru's ranking. She is such a sweetheart in my eyes. You say she is really snobby when she isn't. She just enjoys nerding out a lot. Sure she is a golden child, but i blame that on Demetrius. I mean Sebastian says that Demetrius doesn't care about him one bit. Part of the blame goes to Robin too. She does kinda try to reach out to him, but she seems to immediately give up. Maru is willing to talk to him, but Sebastian supposedly refuses. Even when married to Maru I have had dialog with her where she expresses concern for Sebastian and she says she is willing to invite him for dinner. I have only gotten this dialog once, but i stil love it when she worries if Sebastian is ever going to work up the courage to ask out Abigail. This hints to at least a slight bit of connection between the two, wich i really like. Tho maybe she is just making assumptions about him as a way to cope about the lack of connection between the two, in wich case i will cry, for weeks. That in addition to her being one of the few villagers who doesn’t immediately tell you to get lost or asks to be left alone or ignores you or assumes a random negative thing about you is a big plus for me. Like she seems genuinely joyful to have a new person in town. The only real problem with her is her lack of social skills and insecurity. The social skills are pretty self-evident, many people seem to think she is snobbish, when i don't think she is. As a person who has a lot of issues communicating, i see a bit of myself in Maru. I just see her as well-meaning but not very well aware of how what she says and how she says what she says may come over to others. As for her insecurities it is a little more subtle, for the most part. She seems to blame herself for her lack of connection with Sebastian, wich is only worsened by her lack of communication skills. She seems concerned about her weight (when married, she has a rather common dialog where she ponders about wether she should make chocolate cake or just take a strawberry for a snack and then asks you if she is gaining too much weight). She also seems to panick about small things such as the sample at the doctor's office and is very concerned about doing the right thing, but has to ask you what to do, again looping back to that lack of social ability. I know you have a bias towards Sebastian, but maybe this helps you better understand Maru at the very least. I think she is a very underrated character and one i feel a lot of sympathy for and see a bit of myself in.
TL;DR: Maru isn't snobbish. She is willing to make new friends and wants connection with her brother, but doesn't know how to go about it. She does express genuine concern for her parents and Sebastian even his crush on Abby, wich may or may not be real. She is also pretty insecure, blaming herself for her lack of connection with Sebastian even though it is Demetrius who seems to be at fault. In her 4 heart cutscene she also seems very quick to worry about screwing up and doing the morally right thing. This all makes me feel very sorry for her and i just wanna give her a hug to let her know everything is alright.

Whenever I see Maru, she reminds me of my girlfriend (they look kinda similar, just imagine Maru with Slightly longer black hair), so that definitely skews my perception of her. I guess not everyone is as tolerant with nerdy or socially awkward people. I personally have always found it super cute, but I know I am probably in the minority here.
Right? That ranking and explanation came so sharply out of left field. It's like calling Harvey arrogant for being a doctor. Wait a second why didn't she?! All Maru is is smart and happy about pursuing her passions, how is that being snobby and arrogant? So when Maru talks about science, she's a know-it-all, but when Harvey does the same thing with telling you all about doctor and health stuff umprompted, that's ignorable and a 7/10?
When I started stardew valley I went for Abigail, now i usualy go for Leah, since she has something going for her, she an artist, she has a backstory about her evil ex, and likes nature, while Abigail is just..eh, not a lot to work with

Sebastian is also my favourite spouse tbh. Idk why but I like the little vampire boy. Maybe it's because I feel sorry for him because he obviously doesn't get the same treatment as Maru, or its because I love his heart events, but I love the little emo basement goblin lmao

I like Sebastian because he has very substantial character growth and a relatable story, at least for me lol.
Abigail is your typical quirky gamer grill and seeing people simp for girls like that in games but would snub off girls who are like her in real life are what turns me away from her. She's not a bad character but she def boring. Also Sebby have motorcycle and frog and the best room addition like he's perfect.

Shane was my first Stardew Valley hubby, I don’t know why I started pursuing him… I think it was the challenge lol. But then when he started opening up I just felt for him! I wanted to actually help him and support him getting help. The 10 heart date was also super cute!
I feel like despite his story, he's ironically probably one of the easiest to romance because he's always at the saloon and loves beer and pizza which are sold right there. 😂

Considering any of the characters particularly interesting in Stardew is a stretch. Sebastian is about the most cliche character being the dyed black hair edgy loner who doesn't fit in. Haley is a close second being the arrogant and vain blonde who turns out to be not so arrogant once get to know her. Abigail is obviously the best waifu because she has a choker and all she wants are amethysts which are the easiest gem to find.
My criteria for a decent spouse isn't outdated jewelry for middle-schoolers like chokers lol, but whatever floats your boat.

Another example of people not being "excited" by mentally stable people. Emily and Penny have their shit together. Penny has some baggage, but who doesn't right. Emily is a flower child, but mentally stable and holds a job.
Weird you say that, since I rated Shane the lowest and he's probably the most mentally unstable out of all of them lmao. Penny feels like an unfinished character, she needs more to flesh out her story and character. As she is now, she's like a cardboard box and I'm not interested, especially after that cutscene where she literally shoves George in his wheelchair. As for Emily, I like her decently as a friend but since we have nothing at all in common I don't enjoy pursuing her romantically.

Sebastian has significant character growth and gives up a life-long dream he thinks will be good for him, but after growing as a person he realizes he would've just been running away from his problems. He doesn't need a relationship to be happy like some other characters, but he becomes a better person for it. And also, at least for me, he has a very relatable story as the black sheep of the family and being unsure of his place in the world.
Abigail just acts like a bratty teenager half the time and the most interesting thing about her is that she eats rocks and probably isn't Pierre's daughter, and that's not even part of her own story lol.

Honestly, my favorite characters to romance are Alex and Penny. Penny's so smart, passionate, and cares for kids but is also shy, and I relate to her feelings of hopelessness and lack of self-confidence. Alex is a total dorky goofball and ends up being very sweet, loving, and deep. He's definitely someone you could rely on
I really like the second half of Alex's story, but he starts out kinda sexist which is quite off-putting for me. 😩

On the other hand, Sebastian has a relatable story and significant character growth with an interesting personality. Aesthetically sure they might be similar, but beyond surface level they're very different.

I’m not all the way through my first playthrough of Stardew Valley, but I don’t think I could ever see myself romancing Sebastian. He seems like a really good guy, but the man wants to go places and escape The Valley, and I don’t wanna be the guy that holds him back. From what I’ve experienced, he’s basically the mirror world version of the player character and one day his grandma is gonna leave him a letter that bequeaths unto him her studio apartment in the big city.
I feel like he mostly just wants to escape the basement. No spoilers in case you feel like finding out his dialogue yourself one day, but he is very introverted and that usually doesn't mix with a busy place like the city.

By marrying Sebastian you basically ruin his dream life and force him to stay on the town he so desperately wants to leave and yet you dare to put -84 on Shane for whatever reason I swear I've never been so mad on a Stardew valley video
Hard disagree, Sebastian only wanted to leave because he needed someone who actually gives a shit about him unlike his family, so he becomes really happy on the farm. Shane is fine in concept, but I can't stand the "I can fix him 😍😍" trope and having to become solely responsible for his mental health and well-being, that gives me the ick.
Sam it's such a sweetheart. Before marriage I thought he was so cute with his brother, and always passionate about music and the band. After marriage I definetly agree with what I said before, he's so great, cooks you pancakes even though he can't cook, helps you with the farm feeding the animals and watering plants for you. Plus, his scene telling you he loves you it's so so so funny and cute.
Well all the spouses help with feeding and watering the animals, and him giving instant pancakes or frozen pizza or whatever "he found rolling around in a drawer" just makes him feel like he's still a teenager and that makes me feel icky lol.

I can’t help but see Sebastian, Alex and Sam as teenagers for whatever reason…I can’t romance any of them, it feels so wrooong💀 it’s probably because many of the other man NPCs feel like they are adults compared to them, Idk, none of them state their age. Everybody talks so good about Sebastian but I guess I’ll never see it myself 💀
I feel the same way about Sam and Abigail, mostly in their attitudes I think they both come off really immature. The only reason I don't feel that way about Sebastian is because he doesn't seem to have the same attitude, and it's easier for me to believe he's an adult -- I know technically they all are, but Sebastian really feels more like he's in his mid-20's whereas his friends, not so much. 😂
