The Motive was probably one of the most underrated songs of the 80s and this guy was beautiful.
Then he turned into a arse back in 90'91
Yes he definitely was. I was blessed to know him. LOL
@@sonnymtv3960 first u don’t know me to base that opinion from a comment . Secondly my “comments everywhere “lol thanks for reading them all I hope u enjoyed reading my great memories at all aftershow parties , having drinks with them, and tons of other stuff ... and stuff today as well ,as I still know them all and have for over 30 years .. everyone turns into a arse during periods of their lives , EVERYONE does - human nature ... today’s must be urs by ur comment ... lol
And he is a nice bloke btw , all the guys are awesome ppl and very talented musicians / singers .
@@sonnymtv3960 you sound like a bit of a stalker mate . The girl states she knows him/ them Everyone as the kitty says has a period in life of being a d*** head .
Nothing wrong with the girls comment .
I’ve met Shaw as well a few times and the Jerico boyz. Been to a few gigs . Was great nights .
@@KittyCatFurbabiesMaria1972 agree they’re really awesome musicians the gigs I went to I really enjoyed . Hope live music can get back to some normality soon . 👍🏻
The lost band of the eighties who should have had major success. I cannot help but admire Mark Shaw's refusal to admit defeat in the face of life's slings and arrows. In a parallel and just universe Then Jerico would have been deservedly huge.
Agree, Mark has a damn good voice. I remember them hitting it big with big area around 89 when I was 19 years of age. I recall thinking they were going to be a big band but they seemed to fade away after that.
@@damian-795 I saw them in 2012 on the reunion tour in Liverpool and they were very good. Hard to believe it was ten years ago in a time of relative normality given the chaos of the present and last few years. Mark Shaw still had charisma and his voice. Sugar Box is another great track they released and sounds unique.
@@damian-795 There were big before that in 1986 and their last hit album/single was in 1989.
This is something that every new up-and-coming musician or artist should to listen to, they're wise words
What an amazing guy, really lovely and kind. Hotter than ever in my opinion! Great band x
Mark Shaw was and still is an iconic artist of all time! Love from Portugal
Holy Moly ... He said it all here in a nut shell. For me this makes quite perfect sense.
The whole band were brilliant! Sounding awesome!
Awesome band loved them still playing there albums to this day when big area came out I was dancing on the dance floor in rooftop gardens in wakefield and a lass started dancing along side of me and it started from there
Steve, Rob, Scott and Jasper are such lovely guys!
Top band all day long
Just back from Bristol 02 gig They are brilliant , was dreading watered down shite but close yer eyes back in the day his vocals dont change ha xx brilliant
Should have done like Abba and retreated to an island to make an album without outside inference. This band should have been huge but maybe the fear of criticism stopped it from forging ahead. What this band had out in 1987 was far better than what U2 or Simple Minds had out at the same time.
Davin Gladwell what stopped them was actually Mark went solo
They were a great band but I wouldn't rate their 87 debut alongside The Joshua Tree and I certainly wouldn't put them alongside Simple Minds who were at the time performing killer shows everywhere they went and 1987's Live In theCity Of Light remains absolutely the greatest pop / rock live album any act to this day has released. It is staggeringly good. I was always told by industry bods that Jerico split essentially because Mark Shaw wanted to go it alone. It didn't work and he then went back rather cap in hand to the band members he ditched to reform. So I heard.
@@jonmortimer5831 yeah I have to retract that about comparing them to Simple Minds I'm surprised I wrote that comment 5 years ago
Tour will be amazing and I know they all can't wait. Hoping to get more of our interview up over the coming weeks. Being a Gemini, Mark is a great talker! Great bloke too with so many brilliant stories.
:D - tour will be brilliant. I can't wait either.
Aww I wasn't criticising - can't wait for the tour and the acoustic gig/s :)
so right,im not sure that mark has realized his voice was and and still is what moves us lovers and musos....arguably we all find his good looks embarrassing, detracts from where its at. x keep doin it bro , not just this yr either..
Words of truth. It should be copied verbatum into all "wannabe a mega popstar" manuals, although most won't read it. I gather for some, the post fame period opens the door for serious depression.
Oh he's always been a talkative one :)
there were a tonne of bands all very similar back then, possibly a little too polished for some..
I make that 8 dates. Still, who's counting? :) Cheers for this :)
Is it September yet? :)
Yeah, you had a hit. Keep talking it up like you were important
They had more than one hit !!!! Sell out tours , platinum selling album for “The Big Area”
So they were EXTREMELY important actually! @RP Avery
Doesn't sound like he could handle it? Probly Threw afew Toys outta his Pram. 😭 He'd be a Nightmare to be Married to. What he said doesn't make sense either? 🙄
Erm, I bought The Motive when it peaked at #65ish and was really pleased when it was re-issued and made the top twenty back when that mattered (#18, so that was massive) His arrogance about having a couple of minor hits is what grates with me (look at his attitude on the recent "Re-make me in the USA" programme)
As I said, you had a hit, worked with people like you and they got over it
@@eightiesmusic1984 God, was it that long ago? I was out even when I wrote that comment 7 years ago! I still think it should have been a voice off between Tony Hadley and Peter Cox even now, 17 years on xxx
@@Bohochic72 u seem to forget they had a platinum selling album for “The Big Area” and sold out tours ... bit more than “one hit “....
Crème brullee
They were never ever the band of the moment 😂
Eh? I saw them twice and they were quite good. Mark Shaw thinks he was in Duran Duran surely? They never had a huge hit (No13?) so what is he talking about?
'Band of the Moment' quote is priceless! Band of the day perhaps...!
Not here to be horrible............but please...........
Marley Evans They are all really lovely guys , I've known them 29 years this year and they are all so passionate about their music
Big Area was pretty popular back then
comes with fame pal
Chill out Mark you had 4 top 40 hits and only two made the top 20 don’t try and rewrite history
he's rambling
