Aw damn. Don't start tearing up!!! Totally will be watching your next run! So glad you got some professional help. You're real lucky to have Matt around and Storm.
So glad you are getting new running shoes and got the sports massage. You will be healed up and back to running hills in no time LOL Running those hills are so tough on our calves and feet. I've pulled tendons, muscles, and had shin splints from running hills in my neighborhood. All because I had bad form and was not stretching enough. We learn...sometimes the hard way but then we get better! XO from Nashville, TN USA
So glad you’re on the mend! You did the right thing by resting and preventing it from getting worse. Don’t be too hard on yourself - your body knows how to run and you’ll be able to get right back to it once healed. Once a runner, always a runner ❤
Lucy!!! I hope your foot is better… injuries definitely suck lol people say do a workout or go swimming but it’s just not the same feeling as when you run… you will definitely get but to running soon. 🥰 Hope you are ok x
Ah thank you! ❤️ It’s not even close to that running feeling, you’re so right! 😆 I think I’m starting to feel improvement but as soon as I say that I seem to feel the opposite not long later 😫😂 I’m ok thought, thank you ❤️❤️
Good luck with the rehab Lucy 🙏 best thing I did was go and see a physio for my ITB before Manchester. I googled too and scared myself silly, so you’ve made the best move you can right now! Take it easy and we’ll see you back out on the range in no time!
Thank you Mr. Ultramarathoner!! 🤗 The googling has to stop because I’m driving myself crazy 😂 What was their suggestion for your ITB? I reckon I’ll be back on the range as soon as that pesky hot weather comes along 🥴😅
@@lucyshawvlogs lol why thank you! I am now in the same group as your bad self! Ultra peer!. Physio was great he gave me a list of exercises I HAD to do if I wanted to run Manchester and gave me some resistance bands, I eased off the running frequency and upped the stretches which seemed to massively help! its stuff Google would never have suggested and I also got the sports massage which was a game changer.
I am also not able to run right now due to plantar fasciitis, and I've been riding my spin bike and using a rower at the gym. Sorry to hear you're injured, as well!
I believe so but these are the ones I was given after my gait test so I know I should be in these ones 😅 I don’t think I was stretching my calves enough anyway so I’ll be on it a lot more when I’m out running again 🙌🏼
Soooo glad you got to see a medical professional in the sports end of things, that was wise! If you care to teach us your calf stretches, do impart your new knowledge to us! Or if that feels too weird no worries, hehe. Its perfectly normal to feel hesitant to try again once you get hurt, in any instance in life. Take it at your own pace. ❤ I haven't done more than a mile run (just yesterday) in just over a week bc, oddly, my lower back got hurt sitting through a movie at the theater in their new seats! They recline and they also push your neck forward (or they did mine), and we never go to the movies anymore but someone gave my kids and me their leftover gift card...Dispicable Me 4 is out...and the math is done. 😘 But I got up and could barely move-and I wasn't feeling bad the whole time-sneaky seats! Anyway, I've had to focus on mobility work and going very easy and its slowly coming back to "normal". That said, I feel a version of your pain, and all us recovering bodies out there will be back at it as soon as is best for each-cheers to the upcoming return!! Keep applying to the big marathons you want to race in-is it easy to do one in a neighboring country with your trains, maybe? Purely curious. ☺
Yes I will definitely show you how I’ve adjusted my stretching 😀 I am so hesitant but thank you for validating my thoughts! ❤️ I hope your back is ok! Must have been awful to get that pain at the movies 😫 Thank you for your support! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@lucyshawvlogs Thank you, too. Its better with nightly stretches and back strength training, but only the moves that won't hurt me. Always personalize to what helps your body. :)
I was wearing Hoka trainers when I got injured and these are my old ones from when I did my ultra last year. These were the ones given from my gait analysis so I’ve been using them to walk around in, I’ve not got any others to wear anyway 😅
Did you learn about stretching your feet with a towel or robe sash before getting out of bed? Just put it round your feet while sitting in bed with your legs straight out on the bed and gently pull the tops of your feet (toes and balls of feet) towards you. It really works at making those first steps of the day less painful. I think the latest research is recommending not resting too much, but keeping active. I can trigger it by increasing mileage, but resting actually doesn’t help too much. It’s a balance. And wear shoes inside.
Yes loosening up the calves can help everything so much when it comes to plantar fasciitis!!!
I know a few Altra trainer fans, they like the zero rise / stack design of them as well as the comfort. I hope your injury heals soon 🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀

Ooh those hills 😫😂 That sounds painful! I’m so lucky this is all I have got, it could have been so much worse 😬 Definitely learnt my lesson here 😅

That’s so reassuring, thank you ❤️🥹
“ I can’t decide where I wanna be” I love your personality 😄
😅 Ah thank you 🫶🏻
@@lucyshawvlogsoh and my dog gets a bad belly in the heat too! I forget every time and then it’s a nasty surprise 😆

Hugs and love you girl it will be ok!!! I can't wait to see you for your next run with me!!
Thank you! ❤️ I miss running with my running buddies sooo much 😫 Hopefully I can get out there soon 🤞

Oh no! I hope you’re ok! It’s really good you’ve got those workouts to do in the meantime 🙌🏼❤️ Wishing you a quick recovery!
Good to hear you're injury isn't too serious!
Thank you, so am I 😬😅
Glad to see you're on the mend! Hope you're back to running by now.
Thank you 😊 Hopefully soon! 🤞
So glad your injury wasn’t something more serious. I also have really, really tight calves and have to stretch that lower calf all the time.
Same! I was overthinking it a lot 😅
Are the Altra’s zero drop shoes? You might find the calves need even more stretching if you go zero drop.

What were the stretches she advised you to do?
I’ll make sure to show the stretch in my next vlog 😀
Lucy, are your Altras zero drop? That could potentially be the cause of your calf issues. A higher drop trainer would lessen the strain on your calf
