Finnish Freight Trains + Passenger Trains | All Trains of the day with two camera angles

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- How many trains go past our house using Tampere - Jyväskylä tracks in 12 hours? We had two cameras recording for 12 hours to film all freight and passenger trains of the day!
Bit different video this time. But we like to watch trains go pass and thought most of you would like also so we decide to film a whole days worth of trains :D Tag your favorite train on the comments!
And this was about 600gb of data with two cameras rolling 1080p for 12 hours :D
You must be really desperate and out of ideas for this "situation", when you do this. I feel for you. Its the same with me...out of ideas what to watch. I have feeling I watched the whole internet already, even this stupid and pointless video. Thank you for that. :-D
@@152marian We have actually everything going really well here and filming of regular stupid stuff is going well :D But we like also to try bit different things like this video and thought that there is probably plenty of people that like trains and really bored so why not to do video like this since it won't take too much time or cost anything.
I thought it might be boring at first, but it was actually really interesting and peaceful. I am glad you posted it!
These electric trains are so quiet compared to diesel locomotives in the US. In many US states, particularly Western states, freight trains can be over a mile long and require several locomotives. They can be very noisy.
@@WoodworkerDon In Finland the longest one is 800m long, but they use multiple electric locomotives.
This is also good introduction to Finnish weather for people from other countries.
Cool name!
I've loved trains all my life. My 5 year old grandson ALWAYS asks to watch the "Drawlic Press Family" when he's over visiting. He starting watching this vid and came running into where I was and said, "Papa! they like train too!" Thank you both!
Biologists leave the camera to catch wild animals, BTP leaves it to catch trains. I'm seeing a new style of documentaries coming, with Finnish accent instead of British. Neat
Plus the Snow Dump site as a background. 👍

"This mated pair of EMUs can attack at any moment, so we have to deal with it."
Need to hear their best impressions now... Here, we see, some native Finnish trains....
My favorite part was all the trees going on a trip.
Watching this in Holland in my Finnish wooden garden shed, I thought: look! More sheds! Excellent wood, excellent shed.
i must regretfully inform you that those trees are no longer alive
That was not just trees! That was a whole forest!!
@Bill Williams There was that one sap who tried to stem the argument. He was pithy but his ideas were too far out on a limb so his mates crowned him one. His response? "Shoot."
Finland is 80% forest btw
I like trains
I like turtles.
I love lamp
I like the smell of onions frying in butter
I like Finland. And Girls.

dang I love that movie.
2:35 Here comes all the logs to make the paper to replace all the playing cards Lauri has crushed.
Or to replenish the world's supply of toilet paper... That STILL isn't back to normal. Every store around me is still out of tp.
@@xenonram The stores in Finland have normal amount of toilet paper. :D
If you set up a camera to watch a train here in the USA, especially mid and western states, you would only get one train in 12 hours and that train would fill the full 12 hour tape. One can die of old age at some railroad crossings waiting for them to go by. Love your videos
Just on time delivery can't wait for a week's worth of freight. Therefore shorter trains are used daily.
@Big'un44... Same in Australia!
I presume it has to do with the sheer size of the US. Finland is obviously much, much smaller and has a less complicated web of populous areas. It's probably much more efficient and economical to use a smaller train to go from destination to destination.
Growing up near Chicago (literally the heart of North America's railway systems) I've seen some absolute monsters (like 7 engines at the front, 3 in the middle, 5 at the back). It's kinda fun to think of how each intermodal container, coal car, tanker, or whatever will eventually be split off and join another and another and another. Each has its own little life story buried in log books and records.
The longest cargo train so far here in Finland was 830 meters long had 66 cars, weighed 6000 metric tons and was pulled by two SR3 (Siemens Vectron) locomotives. They are getting longer but so far the limiting factor has been the lenght of track at rail-yards that haven't been able to handle longer trains. But they're now making them longer since a lot of very long trains are coming in from Russia and China.
There is no room for very long trains. I bet that log train was the longest you could physically fit and handle. Also most of the network is single rail so passing rails determine how long the train can be. Those other freight cars probably all come from one factory. Most likely logs one way, pulp or paper the other, etc. One of the trains most likely had some heavy machine shop products. I think the longest trains run between finland and russia, carrying oil or oil products and chemicals.
You people should get a stipend from the Finnish National Tourist Board. You make your audience want to visit Finland. I can see the slogan now: "Finland. A cold country with a warm heart."
...and some hydraulic presses!
And dynamite.
Your trains are so much different then ares in the USA. So far this is my favorite video you have to date, I love trains
Say: your trains are smaller than my.. :D
I like this. Why I like this.
I need this.
*why I need this*
I’m very grateful there were no explosions for once
Excellent. Two camera angles are perfect, terrific sound as well! You two are the best.
0:31 This locomotive is the Sr2 and was built in Switzerland. Except for the wider track, the technology is the same as that of the Swiss SBB Re 460, BLS Re 465 or the Norwegian EL 18. They also look very similar. There are even 2 related locomotives in Hong Kong that drive a luxury train from Kowloon to Guangzhou.
My 5 year old kid loved this thanks guys. Love your accent. best in the world.
I see that Finish freight trains are also decorated by hoodlums spray paints.
It is a shame people are so down on these, the is some truly amazing artwork on some. I would love to see a train company embrace it and have trains specifically for painting.
In Anni-approved colors no less! :D
Dave P there’s art (Banksy) and then there’s the mindless tagging of everything in sight. “You can write your name. You get to graduate from Kindergarten.”

Haha, picture's or didn't happend ;)
I like all trains. Thanks for the time and effort to put this video together.
I agree with another commenter... you would think this would be quite boring but as stressful as life is these days, it was actually quite peaceful and relaxing. I was not even watching 100% of the time, just hearing those sounds was calming. So as unusual as this video was compared to your usual mayhem, I really appreciate you posting it. Kiitos ja pysyä terveenä.
"Kiitos ja pysyä terveenä" Got almost perfectly that one. Its about "pysyä" word which in this case should be a conjugation of it as follows "pysykää" also not entire sure if its even more correctly to do the same to health word "terveinä", since it refers to many people instead of just one I think. Even though I am native of Finland I still make mistakes at writing finnish properly, so not an expert on this or any other language. English is somewhat easier exept the use of points, I remember that teacher said that if you dont know how to use points then dont put them in the sentence :D
@@ile84 Points are essential. I think you mean commas. Frankly, they are not all that hard.
The one who can calculate the trains speed just from the footage is the absolute grand master! :D
You can see the bars under the rails on the video, so if you google how far those are from each other you can use that to calculate speed. The calculation is the easiest part. Real trick is making exact enough measurement of time between specific bars.
That train with the lumber was just from cleaning up after the dynamite. ;)
What a great video!
You guys have cool trains.
That was pretty awesome! Such an amazing variety of trains in one day!!
Very relaxing. I live near a railway and hearing then rumble by at night helps me and my wife fall asleep 😴
Anni should have sung the Thomas The Tank Engine song as the soundtrack for this video. :)
That would been best thing ever :D And lets make it 12 hours long :D
@@Beyondthepress Great idea ! :D You can start right now :DD
@@Beyondthepress yes 😂 Hello from 🇨🇦
Lauri and Anni beat boxing the opening.
@@Beyondthepress I'll bet Antti asks for it too. 😂🚂🚈🚋🚎
I love this. So calming and beautiful. More!
I very much enjoyed seeing the different kinds of Finnish trains! You guys are lucky to live so close to the train tracks that you can see them all go by! For a railfan like me, that would be the ultimate place to live.
One thing that was a little unexpected was the light engine moves (0:15, 4:36, 5:55). Those are fairly uncommon in the US, where spare locomotives are usually pulled to their destination by another freight train. Also, your freight trains are so short! Ones here in the US commonly exceed 10,000 feet and are hundreds of cars long. They use diesel locomotives on the front and sometimes middle or rear in addition to pull them. Passenger trains in the US are also very few and far between, and are always late. Loved the video!
I work for a railroad in the united states as a train conductor, train I'm on has 138 cars and is a little over 9000 feet long. We are stopped right now
I think something like 40 cars is longest one that I have seen ever going pass our house and passenger trains usually have only something like 5 cars but they go quite often on the normal times
@@Beyondthepress we are a light train today, only 8708 gross tons
You must love ur work if u watch this vid whilst working on one =O 0 job stress!
@@wrs900 nah, was wondering why trains were on my suggested then I saw who it was and let it slide

Interesting video, it's neat to see the variety of trains, because where I live most trains look the exact same
Beyond the Press + Trains = 😍😍😍
7:26 Sounds like a bad wheel on that last wagon.
1:22 that maintenance locomotive with what looks like a man basket on the crane. Best one. 😁
In America we call that "man basket" a Cherry Picker.🙂
@Gearedjam It is a Tka8 maintenance of way trolley, diesel hydraulic with a 4 speed manual transmission. It is used to operate light work trains, can also do light lifting. Has nothing to do with forestry or revenue freight service. Operated by NRC Group Finland.
3:07 Hey, there goes #TeamTrees. Good job, everyone involved with that. LOL.
Then again Finland plants over 150 million trees every year. Let me put it this way: That's 150 000 000 holes dug, that's 150 000 000 saplings planted and taken care of, and that's 27,2 trees planted per capita. That all makes more forest that what is being cut with 76% of the area of Finland being just forest.
So go #TeamTrees! Finland is just few steps ahead as a country :D
Finnish law says that if you cut down a forest you have to plant new one, that is how you can keep forest industry running without much trouble.
Sheldon Cooper will be pleased!
Great video greetings from England
This makes me wish for a different life. Thanks for sharing. This from someone from the U.S. in a rural place. We have no transportation like this. I wish we did.
Railroad Gauge in Finland is 1435mm which is the exact same gauge that was used in America only on the confederate side during the US civil War.
I never seen finnish trains and some of them are very interested. Most of the locos are in green and white colour. Greetings from train fan from Poland!
Great video! More trains please! How about you two take a train ride?
Outstanding ! I love trains..I used to weld building freight trains for a company here in the states..how's the snow dump pile there in the background coming along this year ? It looks smaller than this time last year..I just love all your channels !!
We had really little amount of snow this year so it's basically empty already. On last year we had just passed peak snow dump at this point and it was over 10 meters tall from whole area.
@@Beyondthepress thank you so much for your reply..I have been watching all your channels pretty much all the time while here under the virus quarantine..I love them they are a lifesaver and looking forward to lots more..you two are wonderful !!
I always have to count the number of railcars of passing trains. I can't do anything about it.
THAT'S SO ANOYING! 😂
I always try to count amount railcars of freight trains! 😃
Don't do that in Australia you will run out of numbers
Neat, thanks. Love trains.
I'm surprised by the amount of diesel traffic
Some old apart routes have not electrified
Heard several with flat tyres, interesting barn-top design vans
Kinda wish y'all panned the audio from each camera hard to the left or right so you could get the whole thing in a wider stereo. Weirdly relaxing even so.

It's okay as long as you don't think they wave back at you.
my favorite train in belgium is the desiro and the TRAXX bombardier

Ah, i see, you a man of culture as well.
But I prefer EuroSprinter (ES64F)
Fave UK train is the British Rail 707 but all time fave has to be the NS VIRM in the Netherlands.
@@afrobeematty i prefer the m7 or m6 coaches
this was so cool, i kinda wish you had put a clock on the screen so we could see how long it had been since the last train passed. but really enjoyable, if i had a railroad nearby i would watch the trains also 😊
It's interesting that both tracks seemingly host traffic going both directions. I don't know the first thing about train routing. I'm sure it's perfectly safe, but my driving brain doesn't like it.
Why? You have two lanes when you are driving a car so why two train tracks wouldn't make sense?
The filming place is close to a station which has tracks going four different direction. Three split just next to station while one direction split a few kilometers away behind the station.
When I was first time traveling to Jyväskylä it confused me that train started going back. I was wondering if I should have switched to different train in Tampere.
I liked this train video! It's interesting to see electric vs diesel power and many engine moves back and forth. Thank you! Those are VERY active tracks. I hope most people in Finland know to stay away from live tracks. In USA, tracks this live have problems hitting objects...
Here in Helsinki region, every now and then someone ends his/her life on the rail tracks.
Sometimes it's moose ending their life: www.is.fi/kotimaa/art-2000000879728.html
Very nice! The double deckers are almost like the Intercity 2000s in Switzerland, and the loco is the same!
They are called InterCity in Finland too.
And some call that loco cuckoo clock in finnish as those are bought from Switzerland. I think those were assembled in Finland, but anyway swiss loco. Fast enough and powerful enough as those double deckers run 200km/h on places where track is straight enough.
@@Karjis Actually the Sr2 were licence-made or assembled in Finland at Transtech.
As a railfan, it would be nice to see all of the train numbers from juliadata.fi on the video 😆 and a nice video!
Could it be this particular day? juliadata.fi/timetables?s=HAVISEVA&d=29.4.2020
Some trains are electric (passenger) and some are diesel (freight), right? Also, it was difficult to identify the motor engine on some of the green passenger trains (was motor engine in the front or was it in the back?). But, good video about trains, always interesting to me, so thanks. My favorite train was the green double-decker (passenger).
Those are the Intercity trains. www.vr.fi/cs/vr/en/intercity-train
There were also some diesel passenger ones. (The ones with the yellow "bumpers".) The double decker passenger cars have a remote control cabs in the back, so they can be driven with the locomotive at the back or front. No need to use a turntable or switch cars around. And Pendolinos (sleeker looking green ones) are high speed passanger trains and don't really have a motor engine at all, since all cars have motor bogies.
And many freight trains were also electric, for example that log train. Basically you know the type from the looks, all locos with cabin in front are electric in Finland, diesel locos always have "hood" in front of the drivers cabin. Only exception is that "railway bus" with yellow bumpers, those drive short distances to small stations and are diesel powered.
That was interesting. Very VERY different from American trains!
It was neat to see diesel-electric and electric running on the same line. They also seemed a lot shorter and a bit smaller than the typical locomotives and rolling stock in the USA. I have seen everything from coal to wind turbine blades, Boeing 737 fuselages, military vehicles, automobiles, and of course a zillion shipping containers on the railroads around here.
Those are very quiet in comparison to freight trains I hear in the US.
I like trains (ASDF movie reference)
Who wouldn't :D
Not again... Love the ASDF movies.
Trains are good. Do more train videos. What are those freight e-locos, SR1's? Maybe do a whole video with freight trains only. The heavy, hard pulling ones are the best of course.
Yes that is SR1
1:27 Even trains are doing physical distancing.
Haha, that look's "stupid" after you say that..
I live near a freight line. All hours and any hours, day or night, Hapag-Lloyd, UASC, MAERSK and some Canadian Tire containers. I once got to see them thermite weld part of the track from a distance and it was awsome, great footage
i was waiting for someone to bugger off with the cameras
Iirc they've had half a million worth of high speed cameras on a field overnight before, so I soubt they stressed over these too much.
You are now the Finnish version of Virtual Railfan! Outstanding! Love it!
This week I learned that finish hydraulic crane manufacturer Lokomo was named that way because they also built trains. Does the company still exist? 95% of Sisu trucks sold in The Netherlands were crane carriers of Lokomo cranes.
No, Lokomo hasn't existed as an independent company since 1970. The name is still used by Tevo Lokomo Oy.
Next episode "All Trains of the Night with two camera angles" please ! ♥
6:08 Dv12 ,is the loco that i grew up with, hauling everything from freight to passenger trains all over the country.
I think they cancelled the night trains (passenger) due to low demand after the corona.
i honestly did not expect a train spotting video from you guys :)
The train tracks go just pass our house so we decide to do 12 hours of trains video since it was relatively easy for us to do :D Ended up being quite interesting and fun projects also
hi good video like all of them and also from the main chanel but if you want to see more trains here is a German traisspotting channel from my good friend janne : Janne 4.0 Trainspotting aus Leidenschaft. I'm also a fan of Norwegian Broadcasting's "minute by minute" videos. 7+ hours, taken from the front of the locomotive, taking you through Bergensbanen, Nordlandsbanen etc. The original slow TV.
I like the short Utility/Repair one starting at 1:28. Looks like one Lauri could have some fun with too. They should put one on the other tracks and race them.
The yellow small train was my favorite too! 😄🚂

@Bill Williams Yea same here in Australia
Greta video, I would love more videos like this where you let your camera roll on something interesting.
Beautiful! Really neat idea to capture a whole day and show the whole train twice from different angles instead of switching as soon as it is halfway through. My favourite was the single machine passing from the right.
You shoot the stuff people want to watch, congratulations! No wonder it would be trains one day.
I think Australia still holds the record for the longest train. The record was set on June 21, 2001 in Western Australia between Newman and Port Headland, a distance of 275km (170 miles) and the train consisted of 682 loaded iron ore wagons. It was 7.353 km (4.568 miles) long. Cool video, Thanks.
And for today's extra content....
A train crash!
I was work at Kuusakoski many years ago, grushing old passenger train's and that was not fun.
I like trains and didn't know watching them in lockdown could feel so delightful.😌
Now I want to come to Finland and take a train tour of the country.
You can see so beautiful scenery throughout the country!
InterRail is an option. :D
It's mainly forests and fields, beatiful never the less
2:43 fresh wood for the TP 😂
I see you are having the same crazy weather as us here in the States... sun one minute, snow and hail the next! I didn’t realize they ran the small and large commuter trains on the same rail line. I bet you two would love the game TrainStation by Pixel Federation. As a fan of anything mechanical this was just what I needed today. Thanks!
Hello to all trainhopping researchers! Riding on the log trains is dangerous due to the chance of the logs shifting and crushing you, and freight trains always have a cover over them and spaces between the cars are narrow with no good compartments. Not viable :(
Kyllähän tätä mielellään katseli. Saa tehdä toistekin!
I choo choo choose to like and subscribe
Liked the video. Always nice to see how other countries transport systems work. Noticed none of the trains in this video emitted smoke from the locomotive engines. Here in the US many of the engines still emit black/grey smoke from the locomotive engines unfortunately, guess their older than the more modern Finnish locomotives.
Diesel locomotives that are in this video are model Dv12 and they are made 1963-1984, so not very new.
Maybe it is just maintenance or fuel quality difference. You can see faint grey smoke from Dv12 if it is working hard but nothing when cruising.
We here in the U.S. envy European train travel. So great to have separate tracks for each direction! Here, trains run *really slowly* in order for the traffic to fit on long stretches of single track with occasional sidings.
Yea the US system is so weird Xd. In Finland and in all of Europe you can take the train everywhere and almost at any time.
To be honest, this is the part of this particular rail road where there are 2 tracks. It will turn to single track somewhere not too far from that point. "We are waiting here for oncoming traffic." :-D
The most relaxing thing I've done all day.
Ooohhh pure porn.. Great channel 😉👍
Kiitos! I enjoy trains. We only have freight trains near us as we're between the port and the truck hub in the southeastern US. Ours are a bit longer ~120 per train.
Moi! Loved the little yellow fellow at 1:30 :D

The video we didn't know we needed, but we did. It's sad to see that spray painting is a problem there too. I think it should be the death penalty because you can't do it on accident so if they catch you doing it, that's it. Nobody would have to be killed because they knew it was serious so they just wouldn't do it
The train with 21 wagons of lumber was pretty neat
Those are pretty common, after all 75% of Finland is forests
As an American who loves trains I am super jealous, I'm lucky to see two trans whenever I go out railfanning.
Where I live there's a weekly train for the nuclear waste from the power station. Its a couple really old diesel locos and two flatbed wagons each with a huge metal cube. Remember that nuclear safety video where they crashed a train deliberately? Same as that.

Random train video? neat! I like that your trains have as much graffiti as ours do here in the states :D :D Humans are human where ever they are from :P

This is so awesome that you are r a i l fan ing I Love Trains and locomotives that's cool you're showing me your locomotives you can make a random train video anytime I will watch it thank you beyond the Press Channel
This is called RailFanning here in the states. You can visit a channel called "Virtual Railfan", and watch trains all day
Are all the rail line electric in Finland? I suspect that's why your trains are so different than the ones in the US. Ours have to travel much longer distances and carry much heavier/longer loads, into much more remote areas, that electric couldn't do. We have some trains that are 100-200. Over a mile (couple km) long.
I think all the railroads with passenger trains on them are electric and are owned by VR which is owned by Finland itself, at least for the next four years, no more monopoly then.
Most of them are electic, but there are still some not-electric railways. In this video you can see a few diesel locomotives. They are used because part of their line is not electric.
Some cargo tracks might not be electrified, but mainlines and passenger routes are.. I remember years ago news about new train engines being bought that were both electric and diesel so they could get cargo from outside electrified parts.
Here's a map of the Finnish main rail network: i.imgur.com/paCv0z9.png Light blue stands for electrified tracks, red for non-electrified tracks with plans for electrification, dashed green for electrification in progress and thin dark blue for non-electrified tracks with no plans to go electric.
Put me right to sleep, just what I needed. 😂😂
The longest train on record here in Canad was on the Canadian Pacific line...2.7 km long
completely incorrect......
2.7 miles yes .. 2.7 km no
Thanks L & A that was different refreshing and enjoyable! Moi Moi Ironic that just like in the states the freight trains have graffiti 😔
Wow, a trainspotting video from the Hydraulic Press Channel!
Lauri, You should rdo thiis video... add the veturis valmistaja and tyyppi. :D Im too kännissä to translate this shit :D
Greetings from the international space stations!
I watched another video on freight trains in your country. Those electric locomotives make it hard to get freight to places that don't have the power lines.
I think all the major tracks have electrity but there is still plenty of diesel locomotives also to be used when needed
And the new SR3 Vectrons are hybrids, they're mainly electric, but run on diesel for short distances, so they can be operated on rail yards that aren't fully electrified.
I’m a “choo choo” buff. This is waaay cool. I was surprised to see pantograph electrics acting like our (USA) diesel-electric locomotives. I could not identify the one-piece train that had no pantograph and no engine sound... battery? And - - NO STEAM power! What the heck?! Great! Most enjoyable, as always.
keydude that small one-piece train with yellow bumpers is Dm12, running basically two bus engines (2 x 300kW MAN diesels) and driving to unelectrified stations from main track. No battery tech in those, those are 15 years old.
I thank ye!!
We have steam loco's but they drive summer's only, because at winter they freeze.. ;)
