I think I found some of these out hunting, they were on an old gravel logging road. There was a heavy rain and the morning I noticed them, the following day they were pretty big and mature. I found 3 very large groups of them and other smaller groups spotted around. It was in a patch of old growth with a stream. I'm going back to the area in 2 weeks. What other things can I do to ID them? They are that oval shape with the shaggy cap and very white with the ends of the "shag" being a slight brown. I didn't cut one off and cut it open to see the inside tho. It was within 2 days of the rain so none that I noticed started turning black, would the auto-digesting ones still be there?
Could you please tell me what book you used in the video? I'd like to grow mushrooms at home, starting with the shaggy mane, knowing how to ID them is crucial. Thank you!
I find these growing in the cemetery.. though i wouldn't eat specimens growing on a golf course.. because of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, the cemetery does not have toxins in tge ground.. i have eaten many from the cemetery with no ill effects
My friend just found an entire grocery bag of shaggy mane. I came across your video looking it up to see the difference between inky caps and shaggy manes. I think we have found ourselves entire bag of shaggy mane. Still a little nervous though because my friend drinks alcohol, so I really hope it’s not an inky cap and I pre-warned him. Great video
If you pick them, boil them with a little bit of water (well above covering them), just like making mushroom soup and leave the whole ‘soup’ in the fridge. You can keep them ‘fresh’ for a couple of days without turning into ink! 🙂
@@Hxshbox I agree, some can die from eating peanuts , all of us are different I am not recommending to anybody eating something until they thoroughly check the food they eat. OOO I made a mistake he said Inky cap, I thought shaggy main, Inky cap will make you sick with alcohol, shaggy main no, my bad so sorry
@@currently7886 I know this was a while ago but it it's a literal intoxication. Drinkimg Alchahol with inky cap causes nausea, vomiting, heart palpitations, and even death.
If you get the black older part of the shaggy mane and spread it in a soil good for mushrooms will the spores grow into more mushrooms?
Thank you sir. Great upload. Niagara Falls Canada checking in.

What is the intoxication with the inky cap and the alcohol? Is it like a powerful drunkenness or like powerful hangover
