The Illinois game surely didn't go to plan. As an Iowa fan I pray to see a different qb out there. I think the defense is a big ten championship caliber defense, but the offense is absolutely disgusting.
I feel so bad for this great Iowa defense. How much longer before they finally say F- it, who cares? One day soon they will say it. They are Doing great things and getting nothing out of it.
It’s the coaching! Everyone knows it, even if they’re in denial. Iowa football coaches suck! No pressure on them at all, been in their jobs for decades. It’s insane!
There’s one other problem you didn’t mention. Petras is projecting his next play even before he gets to the line. When it’s a quick huddle, it’s a running play and when it’s a longer huddle it’s a pass play. Good defensive coordinators are picking up on that and can throw extra blitz schemes at him fairly confidently. If the offensive coordinator had any intelligence at all about what he was doing, this would be an easy fix and could be used against the defense.
@@showtale8325 plus Brian Ferentz isn't to football savy. They have been calling for his removal for awhile now...but how would the holidays be if dad had to fire his son. Lol
I don’t think I’ve seen a college coach more widely maligned than Brian. At the very least, Kirk still has put up a good career at Iowa, even an Orange Bowl win and a Rose Bowl appearance. But Brian shows Kirk’s nepotism. Brian can’t coach, he can’t game manage, and he hasn’t put together anything resembling a good offense. Kirk has been at the helm for over 20 years, I think it’s time for the Ferentz era in Iowa to be finished, the program is in dire need of a fresh start.
@@nrhurley117 Bielema isn’t leaving Illinois. I don’t know who the next coach should be, I think Phil Parker isn’t a half bad option but I don’t see him staying if Ferentz leaves.
I never thought he was gonna be good. I could just tell. Been tired of turning on Saturdays and seeing this goof. When I turned on the TV for Ricky Stanzi or Brad Banks I knew sh!t was going to get done on the field.
Just remember, this is an indictment of the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz and his father, head coach Kirk Ferentz. If you look at the statistics of every quarterback that has gone through the Ferentz system, every one of them performed worse the second year that they were “the guy (opening season starter).” Such QBs as Drew Tate, Ricki Stanzi, CJ Beathard all performed more tentatively the longer they were in the program. The aforementioned were booed (not their fault, but the coaches) by the end of their careers after taking their teams to major bowl games or winning Big Ten championships (shared) in underclass seasons. Heisman runner-up, Brand Banks, couldn’t crack the line-up until he was a senior. The only explanation for the current situation is that Petras is a better “practice” QB than his rivals on the squad and Coaches Ferentz only reward good practice and will tank the entire team and season to prove a point. Hayden Fry had a similar situation with Tom Poholsky and Chuck Hartlieb in Hartlieb’s sophomore season. Polholsky won the job in preseason practice, but failed to move the team the first few weeks of the season and Fry made the change and the rest is history (Hartlieb was the second best QB in the Fry era to that point).
Stanzi was the product of 6 or so games where he pulled it out of his ass in the 4th quarter. If a handful of plays go the other way Stanzi is looks better his second year. But yea Iowa hasn't moved on from the power I and until they fully embrace a modern scheme and recruit around it, we're going to have bad qb play because we have no receivers, and the play calling is worst in the power 5 easy.
I agree that it all boils down to Ferentz and Son ruining players with their crappy coaching. You ever notice how Ferentz runs the offensive backs straight ahead into non-existent holes time and time again. Also how those same backs stop before the line of scrimmage and get tackled instead of having the sense to either just accelerate or take off and find something but apparently they are coached to follow the play and not think for themselves given the real situation at hand. Also it never seems that Petras can hand off the ball with any trickery, he just telegraphs who's going to get the ball and that may keep Petras from getting clobbered but it makes sure the defense knows who's really got the football. Just crappy Brian Ferentz and his daddy's crappy coaching. Iowa Football is long overdue a regime change. Kirk apparently thinks Brian can't make it on his own and hence Iowa gets a subpar OC and a head coach long overdue for retirement.
Can’t be more disappointed with this offense. The defense is about as good as you can be when it comes to setting the offense up to score. And on top of that, you have the best punter arguably in the world. After a historic season like last years, especially considering the minuscule competition in the west, you can’t be a fan of this team and not be getting close to a close rock bottom in the confidence of your team. Like I literally am more confident in the defense scoring the ball than our offense. Only Hawkeye fans can truly understand because that is an understatement if anything lol
Right now Iowa's punter is their best player. I saw a YT video giving some pretty good reasons for Heisman votes. He stuck South Dakota State down inside the 5 yard line twice. That helped set up two safeties for the defense. The difference in a 7-3 win. smh
That punter better go high first round, no exaggeration he is like first overall good. It's not even coffin corner kicks either, that ball just bounces straight up in the air inside the 5 ~90% of the time. Insanity.
He is not only bad, but the coaching is HORRIBLE! A new OC would be nice if they don't go out and just get a new staff. But Petras is just bad. Only thing I'm not sure of is simply, is it actually Petras or the coaching? Methinks it's coaching as the staff won't change QB's to kick-start the offense, as it may show how bad the coaching really is at Iowa. .....Hey, even Nick Saban has changed quarterbacks not just during a game but also during the season. What does Iowa have to lose? Start Padilla.
Iowa’s entire offensive system is a dumpster fire. Zero creativity. Zero innovation. Recycling the same 12 plays for the past 4 decades. Petras needs to play better 100%, but he is fighting an uphill battle. Every team knows what we’re about to do. Hell, I don’t know hardly anything about football and I can pretty reliably predict what they’re about to run. Get Brian out of there. Let him go coach high school for a while and see if that motivates him to be better. If Kirk insists on them being a package deal, then so be it. Fire them both. He is tarnishing an otherwise legendary legacy with complacency and nepotism. Truly sad.
I still feel so bad for Spencer. Moments where Iowa was down late and they actually had to let him take risks, he suddenly became 10x better. A smart guy who loves the sport getting suffocated by an outdated and risk-adverse offensive system. I really hope he gets some coaching opportunities.
Life long Hawkeye here and Ferentz has a tradition of bringing in good prospects and making them worse every year they are here. Ferentz is a defensively minded guy and he beats down playmakers to guys who are game managers. Take sacks and don’t turn the ball over. Time for Ferentz and his nepo- baby to go
He has a tradition of bringing in three stars and under and makes a lot of those players NFL prospects. Play calling has really gone downhill over the years. It's flat, boring and nauseating predictable. Maybe the Hawks need to start putting more money into players like the big programs do.... also start recruiting scrambling quarterbacks . Definitely need to invest in a better OC . List is long ...🤙

@@michag4337 it's simple. Wisconsin has won for years with a great back and a physical o line. That's Iowa's blueprint and that's what I grew up expecting out of the Hawks. @@halowarrior917 Wisconsin had 3 good backs over the same span that they had some of the best D linemen to ever play the game. Tolzen or w.e his name was was still passing for 200+ a game. I would like to keep Fertenz but we keep going backwards with Brain as the OC. If he won't fire his son, and the dinosaurs he has leading other skill groups then he has to go. Iowa has the talent to be competing for a NC. He has absolutely no awareness. This week against Illinois, a linebacker ran all the way to the line, and Spencer watched him come up, and still snapped the ball, didnt check out, stand and pretend to talk to the coach, nothing watched him come, jump over the center, and get sacked.
Your Iowa state team is a trash team like Illinois that Iowa is expected to beat. The good news is your problem is that your Iowa state and Iowas problem can be fixed with actual changes.
@@Hawkeyes2017 I mean ISU is on an upswing Iowa's been stagnant since 2005. and I'm a hawks fan. I'd rather have what they have in Ames over what we got in IC atm. Like a coach who's building a team around an offense, who producing skill players. Sure their defense isn't very good, but it's better than our offense. And they don't have to work around the dead weight that is brian ferentz.
Sadly, your first point of why it's so bad has been the main problem at Iowa for the entirety of Ferenz's tenure. The offensive scheme is horrible and can turn otherwise decent QBs into losers. it's always been a run first offense, which is fine if you have a dominant O-line and top tier backs. But when you don't, you're screwed, which is what we've seen the past few years.
It's a run first offense that has 0 play action scheme. Look at every offense Tom Brady has run. They're all run first (except when he had moss) and lives on PA. Iowa should dominate off PA with a blocking TE like La Porta. Just run run run run PA for levels or something. Look at how Greenbay uses Lizzard, we could use 10 like that. The issue isn't run first, or even line play in a run first, the issue is our OC is probably the worst OC in college football, and uses madden 2004 madden pick to call plays.
@@michag4337 Agree completely. I've said the same, along with 4-5 yard quick outs and slants for easy pitch and catch, PA would help the line and QB tremendously.
Given what happened now this year, with Deacon Hill, it's safe to say Iowa coaching staff doesn't know anything about quarterbacks. Even when we end up with (potentially) good ones, we destroy them somehow (Tait, Beathard)
As an Iowa fan, the defense is stellar but I do think we should at least try one of our other QBs and see what we could get. If we could utilize someone like Adrian Martinez we would be dangerous. (Also like K-state)
In reality he threw for 186 yds and no TDs against Michigan. Michigan had let up and put in many second stringers in the Fourth Quarter against Iowa. In addition, he was helped out by a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty. Petras is truly the most inaccurate QB in college football. In addition his highlights from high school were simply not that great. He throws a deep ball simply up for grabs and was playing against competition that obviously was not on the same level (his HS was 718 students). The offensive line routinely gives him 5-8 seconds on dropbacks before he needs to throw (which is why Padilla does better) but if Petras does not throw to his first read he panics. Furthermore, he is unable to improvise. The talent is all around him, he's just not it. At all. Probably will go down as the worst starting QB since the 1950s.
After the game instead of taking responsibility for his offense Brian sent Spencer out there you could see Spencer holding back tears Petras is part of the problem but its Brian Ferentz who is deciding to start him
Ferentz is 99% of the problem. Look at Staley talking to scouts at his pro day. He said something to the effect of "I never knew you could place the ball around the receiver, i thought you just put it on them and let them make a catch." Iowa can develop the shit out of Oline, DB's and TE's and is ok with LB's. QB's and skill guys are a no go because Ferentz sr is an oline guy, brian is an idiot who has no business running a college offense and the other coaches are relics from when the power I was king. Don't forget we had 3 nfl linemen, Kittle and Fant at the same time and did nothing with that. It's time to go, If Kirk won't fire his son and bring in someone decent then we need to move on. I'm sick of top 10 defenses with bottom 5 offenses.
I think a QB change would be good change of pace, but it’s so much more than just that the scheme just isn’t working. No uptempo just 3 slow run plays then a pass , a oc change would definitely make a bigger impact. Move Brian ferentz to o line or tigh end coach and bring in new offensive coordinator.
The stats against michigan are all smoke and mirror. A big chunk of those yards came when they were down by 20 and michigan backed off and gave up a lot underneath. When it actually mattered he couldn't throw
Been a Hawkeye fan since 80'. We are blessed to have Ferentz, but he is known for poor recruiting. I don't see us getting another great QB. Too much pay to play out there.
One more game with Petras at QB and I am done with IA football!!!!!! Yes, the O line is not that great, but Petras has been sacked how many times??? He lacks mobility....it is past time to give the other QB's a shot! Now, I understand why we lost two really great offensive backs, to the transfer portal!
That high school film is…suspect. Those throws have zero zip on them. Also, some of the DBs he’s throwing against look like they have no idea what they’re doing
It hurts so much to see that he had those same happy feet in high school. He floats his throws and doesn’t follow through at all. Terrible job of recruiting by the coaching staff.
You gave your five reasons, but I think you forgot probably the most important reason. Coaching... The biggest change from the 2021 season to the 2022 season is the quarterback coach, for God knows what reason... Nepotism cough cough Kirk Ferentz decided to make his son the quarterbacks coach... Brian Ferentz has no business in the quarterback room. Brian Ferentz was a pretty decent offensive line coach but since being promoted to offensive coordinator he really hasn't done much with the exception of the blowout of Ohio State in 2017. If he were the offensive coordinator at any other program in division 1 college football he would have lost his job already but because he is the coach's son he has been given a pass. Everyone knows it but nobody is talking about it because the state of Iowa loves Kirk Ferentz that much they are willing to look the other way about how he has let his family ties cloud his judgment when it comes to making decisions that lead the program in the right direction.
Here’s the facts. According to ESPN, Petras completion percentage was higher than Padilla’s in every year that Padilla played. In 2019 Petras completed 60% of his passing attempts. Padilla didn’t play that year. In 2020 Petras completed 57.1% of his passes versus Padilla’s 50%. In 2021 Petras completed 57.3% of his passes versus Padilla’s 49.1%. In 2022 Petras completed 55.9% of his passes versus Padilla’s 48.8%. You can easily look up these ESPN facts on the internet. This is why the coaches started Petras instead of Padilla. And Iowa's historical statistics state that Petras ranks #10 in passing yards completed by Iowa quarterbacks since 1939. You can also look this up.on Wikipedia.
I like the guy a lot but he is so bad like yes the offense is not good the o line is terrible but dude he makes it worse and then it’s not even good since he’s not mobile like if he was at least athletic to get out of the pocket and make some yards then I would understand why he’s restarting but he can’t Yes he has the arm strength yes he has the size but he cannot read a defense to save his life and then when he does He throws it into the stands or throws it to the other team if you need it all fence to literally be perfect for him to look average he’s not it
It might not be as complex as you put forward. Despite guts, a strong work ethic, talent and tons of potential, sometimes player just don't develop at the next level. Sometimes there is no explicable reason for it.
I am a Hawkeye fan, and very disappointed with the current situation, but I think your analagy is spot on, it's definitely not all Spencer's fault, thank you for doing this. GO HAWKEYES.
As an Iowa fan and have watched damn near every game for 20+ years. This is actually painful to watch. Iowa has possibly the best defense it has every had. The offense and QB play is also the worst it has ever been in that span. I mean I'd take Jake Christianson or Jake Ruddock over Petras, and they were awful QBs. I'll admit that the Oline is bad this year, but Petras just stands there and falls down as soon as a hand is laid on him. Iowa needs a more mobile QB or call plays to move Petras out of the pocket. As a fan Petras has had more than a fair chance to lead this team. It is time to move on and look to the future. After losing to Illinois 6-9. Only scoring 6 points on 4 red zone trips. There is no where to go but up. That said I have no ill will towards Petras as a person, but this just isn't working out.
@@augustinechavez8123 he did do better at Michigan but was not good at Iowa, why cause you are not gonna put up crazy passing number at Iowa really, as a Hawkeye fan I would love another brad banks scenario, hell even Stanzi, or Beatherd, where someone buys in to thier defense, and says ill be the guy to get this offense on track but need to get Brian Ferentz out of there calling plays.
Petras had potential, but at this point there is no salvageability possible there. There is no coaching staff at Iowa with the skills necessary to actually develop any QB beyond the high school level, someone new needs to be brought in with the decent budget they do have.
Can't soley blame him. A) Iowa has been running the same play book for 30 + years. B) Iowas receiving core and tight ends are the worst they have had in recent memory. C) Iowas line had not only failed to protect him consistently, has also failed to establish a consistent running game to open play action which is Iowas bread and butter. Overall the offense side of the ball is terrible. Reminds me of the Bears team that went to the SB. Solid D and special teams and absolutely dreadful on offense.
Couple things. He was benched multiple times in 2021 before the the big ten championship game, Padilla came in and looked... okay.. but wasn't solid enough to be qb1. Other thing, not enough touching on Brian Ferentz as a terrible play caller. I go to about 3 Iowa games a year and since he took command of the offense it's done nothing but go on a downhill slide. Petras is your prototypical 6'5" Roethlisberger style pocket passer and the kid has an absolute cannon. Yes, he lost a few options to throw to, but I guarantee that's got more to do with the Ferentz way of coaching then it does Petras. Also, yes the line is not great however.. the play calling stinks, and unfortunately Brian Ferentz has kind of drug him down. It's sad. I feel for him.
It all starts with Brian Farentz. Won’t be let go due to his dad being HC. And then Petra’s has zero mobility. If we played Padilla at least he has some speed to break away and make some plays vs taking a sack every 3 and out.
I think the problem is Brian Ferentz. Not Petras. Ferentz is so incompetent as the OC, he's so predictable and he relies too much on the run game, so teams EASILY know what Iowa will do. Petras has good size and a solid arm but Brian Ferentz can't do things right.
@@burntmentholpod4461 I won't disagree with that statement generally, but since Brian became OC, we've seen some of the worst O since Kirk has been head coach
Also, it makes it seem as though we hung with them. The first score was because of awesome field position, again, from the D. It didn't happen until the 4th quarter. Then, when we got the ball back and had a chance to make it a one score game....imploaded. We scored with 10 seconds left agains the prevent. This was not a close game, just a conservative one by Michigan, thankfully.
And he is now in the nfl because of it. He should send Spencer a gift basket. KF and BF would have ruined him. Of course maybe he could have completed 3 yard passes to wide open backs and receivers so who knows…
The only other QB on the roster is redshirt freshman Joey Labas. 3 star recruit out of Broadview Heights, Ohio, QB 24 in the class of 2021. Good dual threat QB. Originally committed to Ball State, later decommitted and committed to Iowa. Multiple district and all league awards. Broke all school passing records. If Iowa continues to fall off the rails, Labas deserves a look.
It really sucks about my team..Easily we have one of the..if not the best Defence in the FBS. If we had a Bryce Young or a CJ Stroud and maybe another star wide out..we wouldn't be in the position we are now. It would only take just a few pieces to make this particular year squad/team right now a CFP contender.
70000 fans at the games, plus thousands watching the games on TV, but only 250 plus critics posting on social media equals about one half of one percent of the watching fans that are critical of Petras. The critics are only a very small percentage of the fan base and are the same critics who post weekly. That's why the coaches ignore the critics requests to start someone else at QB. The offense has other major problems besides Petras that need to be resolved first, otherwise any other QB won't have much success either.
Ferenz is the problem. If you can't do the most basic aspect of being a coach, which is benching inferior players in the depth chart, then you have no business running the team. Brian Ferenz is also the crux of the offensive woes, two dimensional as it gets. Nepotism will always be the impossible hurdle for the Hawkeyes to pass. It's just so unfair that the D is putting up insane numbers, even outscoring the offense multiple times, and getting this record in return. The pinnacle of this season's problems was when the D recovered a fumble inside the 10, and no points were scored.
I love how we are the laughing stock of college football (offensively) because of 2 people who should have lost their jobs last year. Petras and Brian Ferentz.
As an iowa fan, he’s obviously not good or even average… but he’s not the worst, he’s plagued with one of the worst WR rooms in the country, a terrible O-line, zero run game to help alleviate the pressure on the passing game… and maybe the worst play caller in cfb is running the offense… Not many QBs are succeeding in his situation
Petrus is a good quaterback. I have watched him. Iowa is my hometown. I can't believe Iowa would pick on one of ours. Shame on Iowa. I thought Iowa was better than that.
You’re missing one reason he’s doing so bad too, Iowa has arguably the worst offensive coordinator in the country in Brian ferentz, head coach Kirk ferentz’s son. Nepotism is an awful thing
Lifelong UofI fan here, and we all admit, Petras is bad. We can't argue that, but the playcalling and clear nepotism to OC Brian Ferentz is an extremely overlooked topic in sports. Having a former Oline coach be your "QB Coach" and OC is bad enough, but when he is the coaches kid it has a really bad look. I agree the confidence level of Petras must be at an all time low, but many Iowa fans understand its not entirely his fault. This video is not wrong at all. The Oline is young, the running game struggles because of this and for a team that thrives on play action passing, its indeed a recipe for disaster. When it's all said and done at the end of the season I won't feel bad for Petras or the Iowa offense at all. I will, however, feel bad for the wasted year by every defensive player on this team. They are incredible and deserve better.
It's a little rude to poke a guy when he's down. Look at the flip side. Iowa's offensive coach and quarterback coach, and overall philosophy of play are all not conducive to quarterback development. Add to that the exact same inputs into the offensive line and a lackluster set of playmakers. How is it even remotely possible for this young man to be successful? Some programs could take a frozen meatball and make a productive quarterback out of it. At Iowa, however, the idea of groundbreaking quarterbacks has long been last on the list. Good defenses, yeah. Good running games, sure. Now, with the offensive coaching staff in play, even the running game is terrible. That does not lend itself to good recruiting, once it gets around. Tripling down on that is the reluctance or inability to attract from the transfer portal. Contrast that to Ohio State, where this year they refused to open the door to Sean Tucker, a 1st-team all-American receiver from Syracuse because they felt they had five players on the team who were better. Those players have the best coach in America, the best offensive coordinator in America, the best quarterback in America, one of the best lines and running back teams in America.... Dudes, even Petras would have looked like a Big Ten MVP candidate when put into a mix like that.
I genuinely can't understand why so many Iowa fans are turning on Kirk. It's IOWA. Iowa has never been a consistent powerhouse.
I'd say 2 weeks from now in Columbus. Might be the D's last gasp
@@mrudebec wouldn’t wait for a last gap. I’d go on strike till these 2 clowns in iowa city put a decent offense on the field and a mobile Quarterback.

It’s the coaching! Everyone knows it, even if they’re in denial. Iowa football coaches suck! No pressure on them at all, been in their jobs for decades. It’s insane!
….and Petras truly sucks.
💯
You can t blame Spence's horrible play on the coaches. The head coach is fine but his son has to go.
The coordinator is the coaches son, so he doesn't need to know this stuff
@@showtale8325 plus Brian Ferentz isn't to football savy. They have been calling for his removal for awhile now...but how would the holidays be if dad had to fire his son. Lol
Now do one on Brian Ferentz, the coach's son and wannabe Offensive Coordinator.
@@nathangoergen8496 who would make a great new coach? Bielema?
@@nrhurley117 Bielema isn’t leaving Illinois. I don’t know who the next coach should be, I think Phil Parker isn’t a half bad option but I don’t see him staying if Ferentz leaves.
I never seen a QB throw for a rating of 1 that is just so bad 😔.
remember that time when Spencer Petras led the #3 Hawkeyes in a victory in the Bourbon Bowl vs #4 Penn State.
Petras is funny. Go Blue!
He’s bad, but if you want something to scoff at, just check out the below 40 combined QBR of the two Hawaii QBs.
Iowa always plays good defense but Kirk Ferentz offenses are tough to watch most years and he needs to replace his son as offensive coordinator.
@Daniel Lewis and he hasn’t won a Big Ten Championship in 18 years has he?
I as an Iowa fan when he first started for us I thought he was going to be good but definitely hasn’t been
I never thought he was gonna be good. I could just tell. Been tired of turning on Saturdays and seeing this goof. When I turned on the TV for Ricky Stanzi or Brad Banks I knew sh!t was going to get done on the field.

@@jonpike9991 if we had Jake Christiansen Iowa would probably be unbeaten. Iowa’s toughest opponent Michigan wasn’t that impressive to be honest.
Thanks Scott Fisher your videos are great.
This is on the coaching staff. We are tired of Petras having to answer for his lack of support on the coaching side of things
Yep
I think you failed to mention his inaccuracy. How many passes has he sailed the football over the WR, TE or anybody else that was wide open.
If the WR or TE was only 15 feet tall - he may have been able to jump up and grab the ball with his fingertips! DOH! Yea the QB is that bad!
Yeah you can tell he has a pretty strong arm cuz he usually over throws his receivers
List is long ...🤙
@@chadryan3344 Iowa's play calling was good in the 00's when it was run the ball behind our Oline of all big 10/all american Olinemen. remember when we tried the spread like 5 years ago and didn't have a single guy who ran a sub 4.7? It's time to move on and if Ferentz can't figure it out then he needs to go, we will never be completive until they figure out a decent offensive scheme which with brian feels like asking a dog to do calculus.
@@michag4337 it's simple. Wisconsin has won for years with a great back and a physical o line. That's Iowa's blueprint and that's what I grew up expecting out of the Hawks. Stingy defense, physical O Line, good RB/TE room, and an utterly unspectacular QB. not every program competes for national titles and not every program can consistently. Don't do what Nebraska did and fire a guaranteed 9 win coach for the next hot commodity who winds up trashing your program for the next decade.
@@halowarrior917 Wisconsin had 3 good backs over the same span that they had some of the best D linemen to ever play the game.
It wasn't running behind a good oline that made then good, it was a scary D lead by the front 4, with complimentary offense based on the run. Tolzen or w.e his name was was still passing for 200+ a game.
I would like to keep Fertenz but we keep going backwards with Brain as the OC. If he won't fire his son, and the dinosaurs he has leading other skill groups then he has to go. He has absolutely no awareness. This week against Illinois, a linebacker ran all the way to the line, and Spencer watched him come up, and still snapped the ball, didnt check out, stand and pretend to talk to the coach, nothing watched him come, jump over the center, and get sacked.
Absolutely. He might be a ‘warrior’ but he also might be an idiot.
Doesn't that happen like 5 times per game?😂

Go ahead and approve it. Iowa state ain’t any better lol. I tried cheering for state today but I guess not. You can have the L! 😈
Love ur vids so much.
How in the hell did we ever get Brad Banks?
Given what happened now this year, with Deacon Hill, it's safe to say Iowa coaching staff doesn't know anything about quarterbacks. Even when we end up with (potentially) good ones, we destroy them somehow (Tait, Beathard)
As an Iowa fan, the defense is stellar but I do think we should at least try one of our other QBs and see what we could get. If we could utilize someone like Adrian Martinez we would be dangerous. (Also like K-state)
Even if Iowa loses with another Quarterback atleast they are breaking in a new one for experience and brighter days.
The problem with lowa is the current OC is not a OC.
He could be an O-line coach. I'm guessing his dad saw this as the only job his kid could get his foot in the door.
i can’t imagine being this guy and seeing videos made about how terrible i am
I think the video made him look quite good compared to reality.
Exactly
Brian Ferentz needs to have a seat - in the stands - HE IS NOT A COACH.
Not 100K yet????? Gosh! Almost!
The stats against michigan are all smoke and mirror. A big chunk of those yards came when they were down by 20 and michigan backed off and gave up a lot underneath. When it actually mattered he couldn't throw
I hate dead time stats… makes it seem like the game went another way
Great title, just the thing needed to restore his confidence. This is a kid going though a tough time. I can't imagine how miserable he is.
Been a Hawkeye fan since 80'. We are blessed to have Ferentz, but he is known for poor recruiting. I don't see us getting another great QB. Too much pay to play out there.
Don't need a great QB. An average QB with that defense wins 9-10 games.
I don't see how you are "blessed to have Ferentz." Do you consider an average won-loss record of 7-5 over 23 years to be heavenly?
One more game with Petras at QB and I am done with IA football!!!!!! Yes, the O line is not that great, but Petras has been sacked how many times??? He lacks mobility....it is past time to give the other QB's a shot! Now, I understand why we lost two really great offensive backs, to the transfer portal!
Exactly we all know the O line is not good so they need a quarterback that can scramble and throw accurate passes on the run. Petras isn’t it!
Can't polish a turd.
Petras wasn't the only quartback that played last year, they had Padilla in there too and he one the big games
Were you trying to say that Padilla "won" the big games?
I live in Iowa and of course an Iowa fan. Brian Ferenze needs to go and can take our QB and his Dad.
When you mentioned Ken O'Keif as the QB coach....I thought, that said it all right there...
You called him the next John Elway 😭😭
Ferentz is putting his son's paycheck before the Iowa program. It's terrible.
I like the guy a lot but he is so bad like yes the offense is not good the o line is terrible but dude he makes it worse and then it’s not even good since he’s not mobile like if he was at least athletic to get out of the pocket and make some yards then I would understand why he’s restarting but he can’t Yes he has the arm strength yes he has the size but he cannot read a defense to save his life and then when he does He throws it into the stands or throws it to the other team if you need it all fence to literally be perfect for him to look average he’s not it
This must've been made before Deacon Hill came along and showed Iowa fans what a REALLY bad qb looks like. Had us missing Petras
Forgot one reason, OC. A good one would be able to work around weaknesses.
It's fun being an Iowa fan! Good ol PETRASH
Ruddock wasn’t horrible… before harbaugh got JJ McCarthy, ruddock has been the best QB harbaugh has ever had.
Davis Beville says hi
That may be, but as a Husker fan, I can still see this inept Hawkeye offense beating us in November because, well... we're Nebraska.
Thank the lord everyday he flipped from Oregon State to go to Iowa. And that’s saying something with our current qbs 😂
Kirk, how will you know if you don't try? Northwestern changed QB's in the 4th quarter and it worked well for them
That's the really frustrating part. Let's not try to do something different and see if it helps.
@@richardwalitshek3870 The logic says if they're sticking with him over Padilla...Padilla probably looks worse in practice.

Brian Ferentz has set the Hawks back for years. Good luck recruiting.

He’s a broken QB n it’s unfortunate but now we have to move on to the next guy
I genuinely can't understand why so many Iowa fans are turning on Kirk. It's IOWA. Iowa has never been a consistent powerhouse. Kirk has them respectable, a lot like Lloyd Carr did in the latter half of his Michigan tenure. Trust me, Iowa fans. You don't want what comes after your program's Conservative Carr.
I've been a Hawkeye fan since the 70s, and I'm still impressed whenever they can field a team that posts a winning record.
@@mythirdij he's a great coach and a brilliant football mind. Iowa just needs to get their next stud tailback. If this team had Wadley, they'd have one loss (Michigan)
And what, win a national championship. No way
Found this video after the OSU game. 😅
can we get this video to kirk please, for the love of god get him out
He has done too much for us we punch above our weight year in n out he needs to let get of son. No one else can come in and recruit like kirk
@@Hipelico Kirk can't recruit anyone besides lineman and defense be fr. he's been here 20+ years and has NEVER won his own conference outright. he's pathetically average
It’s funny because you made a video about him last year and said “next John Elway” 😂😂😂
He has been running the ball more this year than he had in the past that is sure. It is the overthrows on the out patterns where he is way over the heads of open receivers and that make no sense watching this. It is clear looking at that high school footage he was a big fish in a little pond.. In the Big Ten he is a little fish as no defense is worried about Spencer beating them. Iowa needs change.
It’s the offense, it’s not a qb friendly one. It’s a rb focused offense.
A toddler could tackle Petras.
Iowa has 2 bad years of recruiting o line plus having early exits and an unusual amount of attrition in the position group. Those w years were 3 and 4 years ago. So the guys that should be solid developed linemen are not there. This is the result.
I’d blame it all on the offensive coordinator he doesn’t know Jack. This week‘s Ohio State 56 to Iowa 3 is my prediction.
