June 13, SDP Planning Meeting Funding For Sunday-In-The-Park

The Regent Park SDP Planning Committee serves as a planning and coordinating body for the Regent Park Social Development Plan, a community wide network focused on employment, community building, safety and communication.
On June 13, 2024, the SDP Planning Committee held an in-camera (private) discussion related to an agenda item involving a decision by the SDP Stakeholders Table requesting the city to release funds. The item was discussed at length but the group was not able to arrive at a decision at this time.
The next major item that was discussed at the meeting was funding for Sunday-In- the Park, an annual festival celebrating Regent Park. At the meeting, members learned that the Sunday-In-the-Park, committee, which is a sub-committee of the Community Building Working Group, had just submitted a business case to the city for partial funding of this year's festival. In addition to requesting the city for funding, a request was made to the planning committee, to hold one less Stakeholders Table meeting, and instead, divert $1,250.00 of funds towards Sunday in the Park. After a short discussion, a unanimous decision was made by the group not to divert funds.
It is unclear how the Sunday-In-The- Park, scheduled in August, is going to proceed without major funding from the city or a major donation. Stay tune for more updates on the funding of the festival.
