If this is really the last day of racing at the old Fremont drag strip then I was there as a wide eyed 7 year old. I still have my autographed Shirley Muldowny program from that day. They ended the event with a jet car race after dark that I seem to remember set a piece of the grandstands on fire to commemorate the closing of such a historic facility. That night my dad lost his keys as they fell through the stands and we never found them. He had to break into his old '63 Mercury Meteor and hotwire it so we could get home that night. So many memories of that night, it was the night I fell in love with cars and I havent looked back since...
the last full day of racing was nov. 30th 1988 a wednesday night . on the previous Sunday everyone thought that was it as they gave out dash plaques saying so , then they added the later date. December 4th was the last event as they used the entire track including the pits , sprint car track and go-kart track for a motocross race with over 150 bikes in all and did a run and get on your bikes start it and go with them lined up down the drag strip . have video of it and will load it some day .
I use to sneak in through a ditch that ran from the track home in warmsprings to the stip back in day, all the security guys know me by name but didn't care.
Dig the old videos, they bring back lots of fun memories. I recall from around 1969 thru 1973, we'd sneak into the track from under the glider airport fence, then crawl under the spectator bleachers during national events and work our way into the seats. Kids..! lol
I used to go there alot as I lived in Newark,Ca. I went from 1976 till they closed.

Man I miss that track it was like a second home when I was a kid. Watching my dad race his 32 bantam
