It's because they had 1 channel for the entire country because they thought commercials would corrupt the youth or something .and wanted to be more like the Ussr in terms of media because that was very popular in the 1950s when tv first got started only in the 80s that they find out that was a bad idea. at least it didn't affect print media and other things like in the ussr.
