      Hi Glyn, thank you for your kind words. Lord willing there will be more lessons once I recover from my second stroke that I had about 5 months ago. I'm coming along, still can't quite get my fingers, on my right hand, working yet. But if it's God's will, I will be teaching again. Blessings in Jesus Christ, my friend. Shawn

    Just wanted to say your approach and dialogue isn’t s polished as a lot of folks but your videos have really caught my eye. You make me feel like I’m sitting on the porch with you listening to a lesson. I play a little mandolin but you got my attention for the banjo. Also, you occasionally make a small error and that makes a person feel like it is ok when you are learning.

    Preach it brother! I just learned your two finger style Amazing Grace. I took up banjo to do street mission work and to keep me away from secular music in my Old Time Fiddler group. I am often very tired from work and your easy style is healing, especially when you talk about the Lord. Keep it up.

      I'm so grateful and blessed by your fine comment. That means so much to me. I'm recovering from a couple of strokes and it has been well over a year since I've done any videos. I hope to be doing videos again soon. Blessings in Jesus Christ.

      Thank you for the kind comment. I am doing a lot better. I'm glad you enjoy the videos, that is an encouragement to me. I'm going to try to start doing more when I'm able. God has a plan, I don't know what it is quite yet but I trust He wants what is best for us. Now I have to learn to wait upon the Lord for His perfect plan. Blessings in Christ. Shawn.

    Seems pretty easy to add this roll, going to try it. Loving how Amazing Grace is sounding so far! I wanted to ask...do you think you be teaching Foggy Mt. Breakdown using two finger rolls? I love this song and am dying to learn it. Thank you for your method of teaching by ear. I play guitar and mandolin by ear, never could catch on to reading notes and tablature. Thanks again! God bless!

      Well, Bonnie, I'm glad you are liking Amazing Grace so far and if you will stay with these lessons there is a lot more exciting stuff to come. Regarding Foggy Mt. Breakdown, it is the definition of Bluegrass banjo instrumental. The thing is when Earl Scruggs wrote this tune, he used his own rolls that has made Bluegrass banjo what it is today. Without using his rolls, it would be very hard, if not impossible, to make Foggy Mt. Breakdown sound right with traditional 2 finger rolls. However Foggy Mt. Breakdown can be played 2 finger style once you learn those rolls that he used in the tune. But it is more difficult because your 2 fingers are trying to keep up the speed that the 3 finger bluegrass players are known for. But this can be achieved through a whole lot of practice and determination. Here is a link that you will have to type in ua-cam.com/video/UqaGzSVQWos/v-deo.html or you can type up Foggy Mt Breakdown played on 2 finger banjo Joff Lowson, This man's name is Joff Lowson and he can play this 2 finger as good or better as 3 finger guys. As far as this being a lesson, since we are only in beginner banjo, it will be a while before we will get to that point. But hang in there and remember go slow, learn fast. But I will start playing around with it even though we are a little ways away right now. Shawn

    Is there any way we can get a printed copy of your Amazing Grace? It's great. Do you do any modern country music like "Country Road" by John Denver? It was the song when I was in Viet Nam.

      I'm sorry, I don't do tab. I mainly do hymns and gospel songs but I did a video of Country Roads and if we find it, I will upload it for a period of time and will let you know. I will take it back off after you see it because want to mainly keep the channel with hymns and gospel songs. That being said, Country Roads is a great song. I have deleted it though but we will look for it. Also thank you for your service. My dad, too, served in Viet Nam. That is something he would not talk about much. He passed away a year ago this month. God bless you and thank you for watching. Blessings in Jesus Christ. Shawn

    Another good lesson my friend are you using this roll in this song instead of the bum ditty roll 351 thanks God bless

    • @banjologic
      @banjologic  2 роки тому

      No, I am using the bum ditty in the song Amazing Grace that we added after we learned the melody. This is the 3rd addition where we also incorporate this roll into the hymn. If you will watch the video very closely, you will see that I show you where to play this roll in the hymn. It is only one little section in the hymn. God bless

      @@glennmeyer4539 As far as I'm concerned, it is the only way to play. It is also the most fun and rewarding. Blessings in Christ.

    do you do 3 finger style or clawhammer style ?

    • @banjologic
      @banjologic  2 роки тому

      I started out 3 finger Scruggs style but I felt like it limited me on what I like to play. So I went to clawhammer which I still play. But my favorite and primary way to play is 2 finger style because it is so versatile. Shawn
