i got a jet s300 . loved it for its resonance . i was happy with it but felt it was so good to play i should give it the chance to reach its potential . i gave it wilkinson pick ups and lockable machine heads . it now towers over my mexican strat .

I bought a JS-400 HSS and I was so surprised. I bought it out of shear curiosity. Everything else I own is high to very high end. I sometimes buy these cheap guitars to see what the hype is about, fix them up a bit, and give them to a kid trying to learn. The JS400 is not only one I'm going to keep, I just bought the JS-300 SSS. They are shockingly good in about every way except the pick ups. The pick ups aren't bad by any stretch, but not great either. I ordered a set of Fender Custom Shop '54 reissue pickups, CTS 250K pots, orange drop cap, and a shielded wiring harness to upgrade the new JS300. I have a sneaking suspicion that after all the upgrades, I'm going to have Fender Custom level instrument for a 10-25% of the price.

That is awesome! It is worth having a look at them, the lower end instruments have really improved over the last 10 or so years in my opinion!

The days of 50 yrs ago where cheap guitars are crap are long gone..
Its just as easy with a CNC Machine to make a great neck as it is a bad neck..No longer can a player blame his or her poor playing on the piece of lumber they're holding.
Similar with pickups..Its as easy and cheap to wind a 60s/50s Fender type Sound as any other ..That technology is very old/mature and hardly secretive.
The prices of $6,000 for some 'Bolt on Neck' CNC Machined bodies/ necks is just absurd.
Most of these cheap guitars today are miles better than the Overweight Boat Anchors that were the USA CBS ERA Strats of the mid/late 70s that came through my guitar shop.( And with technology, so they should be too!) Most mid/late 70s Strats would be good for stabilising an Aircraft Carrier to a dock. They were nothing special neck wise either.
Sure, premium instruments are more refined than cheap, but the 1st 95% of a perfect guitar can be had for almost no money. The last 5 % can cost the world.

Got this same one, played it for hours and hours and hours, then decided to spot level the high frets, dress the fret ends & polish them all. Strings were off so I couldnt help myself looking under the hood...
Swapped in Fender Vintera Modified 60s pickups I got on deep sale, wired it with 1/4 blend, 50s master tone, and a push pull treble bleed (on the pull) all big CTS pots. PureTone jack.
Then ordered Highwood saddles, Raw Vintage springs, and a Musiclily full size steel trem block (the one for Wilkinson M-Series bridges fits perfectly.)
Needed to shim the nut and refile the grooves, low E was cut too deep and was buzzing the first fret...
Literally. Could. Not. Believe. It. when I first plugged it in all done. Easily takes on the $1200 Vintera that inspired the pickup choice.
Then bought a white/white JS400 and swapped the loaded tortie pickguard in, started in on the parchment pickguard with a whole new slew of secret weapons to swap into the sunburst JS300. Cant keep my hands off 'em

Did you not notice there's no thread on the trem arm-because it's a push-fit? It's also adjustable for tension via a grub screw. It really helps if you do some basic homework before posting. All we discovered about the guitar is that you like it!

at this price level its hard to say really, theyre both great guitars. if u get a chance try and go into the store and try some out personally thats the best way to tell. the parts and materials should be quality on both guitars.
