Subura was one of the most famous districts of ancient Rome. Located not far from the Forum Romanum (between the Viminal and Esquiline), it was very active and populous as well. Subura was known as a quite busy, noisy, dirty and wet area.
Here is a brief overview of the work already done related with this district. More detailed tours will follow!
And our main goal is to create the most extensive, detailed and accurate virtual 3D reconstruction of Ancient Rome, and eventually release it to everyone using the game engine! Join and follow us!

I've added the subtitles with the brief descriptions of the paths and locations. Enjoy!
Why you stop posting videos again ?!!!!

I cant believe what im seeing right now, i cant get my head around the these ancient people constructing such insanely massive structures. Placing them perfectly in harmony with nature the level of skill required is far far beyond our reach 2 thousand years later. Even to the sculptures they made its simply beyond the modern day human conception. We will never in the human race see such grandeur again, such magnificence of such magnitude. wonderful job guys. my 26 year old brain struggles to comprehend the astonishment of the ancient people. P.S you guys are bringing us something that otherwise could never imagine
I was very rash and start watching the video without reading the accompanying text, therefore I did not see you have added subtitles with the descriptions. I was annoyed for the lack of subtitles and then I found your note/comment informing about them! That will teach me to read BEFORE watching! (LOL) Thank you so much!
Where have you been all my life! This is amazing! I can't believe that you don't have millions of views. You should do a collaboration with youtube channels that discuss Rome and ancient topics, such as the channel Toldinstone.
This is wonderful. Such detail in the rooftiles, the shadows, and the dirt on the walls; I truly felt as if I were there. Bravo - what an incredible achievement!
Absolutely perfect reconstruction! I love the details!😮😮😮
Thank you so much!
Great video. This is what Mark Zukies "Metaverse" should have been for.
The selection of music waf perfectly fitting but please tell me the name of this track.
Such animated videos make ancient Rome feel so real, one can almost hear the voices of the ancient Romans and their foreign guests and slaves talking about their issues, lving their lives, having fun in the Amphitheatrum Flavium.
I always love your work and the results.
Ok, I live there, just 100 mt from Porta Esquilina (Gallienus Arch). It's amazing how the ancient topograhy has been preserved: you can walk the old Clivio della Suburra (the road you detail in the video) right now, going through via di San Vito, via di San Martino ai Monti, via in Selci, via Leonina and via della Madonna dei Monti: the road path is preservved and still has in a couple of places the walls of the original insulas you depicted in the video.
BTW, waiting for a detailed Celian View (apart from Claudius Temple you detailed so well): Clivio di Scauro is still there, as it is the huge Anicii Palace (now St. Gregory).
Thanks, will be as well!
I have enjoyed your videos where you provide commentary throughout the video, but I will admit watching virtual-flyovers with music such as what was provided in the video is just as wonderful!
Thanks, I think I'll proceed with both types.
this is magnificent 🔝very HUGE like
I love this, Could we have annotations hovering above each notable building when we get close, perhaps with a short description of its function?
I've just added subtitles.
Superb!
Another spectacular and immersive presentation!
Meraviglia‼️ Sembra di essere lì in quei luoghi‼️❤️
This is truly exceptional. I would love to visit one day in VR, with thousands of npcs going about their day.
Excellent presentation 👏👏👏
Thank you!
So much work, and everything meticulous. It is good what you do. Thanks a lot!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Well done! The details and colors makes it more awesome from close view!
Great video, it’s interesting to see parts of Rome where the ordinary people would have lived and worked.
It would be really cool that after u finished the whole city, u added some Roman people roaming the streets and some graffitis and dirt to make it really realistic. Great work tho!
Super wow!
Beautiful, thank you ❤
What a lovely reconstruction! Have you thought about starting a Constantinople/New Rome Project? I bet you know Byzantium1200? You two could do wonders together! Keep it up!
We miss you man ?!!
Brilliant. Stunning work, thank you and love your channel 👍
Amazing progress guys!! You probably get asked this every time, but are you guys thinking of releasing a Beta/Demo Version?! And if so, what would be the estimated date?
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Now I am trying to imagine it with people swarming all over the streets…. And the noise and the smells (okay, maybe not the smells). 😂
perfect
Thanks!
Love your work, please make more.
Magnifique !
Impreciso ante trabajo y los detalles maravillado estoy con sus videos, debe haber sido algo muy hermoso poder caminar tan bella ciudad gracias
As always amazing work i have always want togo back and see Rome if time travel was a thing but thanks to you i get to live that dream with the travelling in time
Thank you! 🙌
Spectacular as always, but could you add a small map in a corner when going along an area at the street level, just for orientation? Thank you.
And also its a great idea to have audio comments too, way better than just the text, plus that your english is not at all bad or that bad like you say about it. Its almost flawless, lets be honest, except very few and minor pronounciation issues here and there, but of course even the non-natives will understand what you mean 😁
Congrats for what you have achieved until now and please keep up the great work!🤩🤓
So skilled. Wow. 😊
Great!
Красивый город
How is everything going? Is the project still being worked on?
Spectacular! One thing that occurs to me as I watch; How could anyone efficiently navigate through the city without street names, addresses, or even maps?
I’m still sketchy on that myself but almost every large city prior to widespread literacy posed the same problem for visitors.
I know it's a big request, would you consider reconstructing more cities, such as Constantinople/Istanbul, Athens, Jerusalem and Babylon?
So much history and beauty to explore.
Also maybe add an evolution of cities via a chronological playlist.
Muito bom 👍
👍👏👏👏
When will the next video come out?
Can you do Scipio Africanus in 3d? 🥺
How's the VR development going along?
In progress.
Habra alguna aplicacion o juego virtual en el que se pueda pasear libremente? Saludos, gran trabajo
Do you guys not have it in vr to sell on steam?
Aos falantes de lingua portuguesa que estão aqui , admitam que , mesmo por alguns instantes , vocês leram outra coisa no título da 'thumbnail'.
Are you planning to recreate the city of Rome in the time of Marius and Sulla?
What is this made in. Unreal engine?

🙃🥰😍🤩😘
Will the final version be released to the public?
He stated that it would be
I can see gordianus the finders house
Would you consider, eventually, doing this with Italian cities during the rennesance?
No, ancient cities only.
@@historyin3d But that isn't of value?
@@michaelcoder9119 I'm interested in ancient time, and ancient city of Rome first of all.
@@michaelcoder9119 tf? How is it of any less value than Italian cities during Renaissance? If anything it's of way greater value since a lot of renaissance buildings still exist.

DOVE NACQUE CESARE.😊❤
Hey History in 3D - I have been tasked with making a miniature city of rome for the game 'Gmod' (a group of people want to use the city for a role play server). Would you be interested in helping out? It could be fun for a change to build a version of the city where real people actually walk around/use it day to day. Plus I am not very good at 3d modelling so am looking to move away from the project but need to find someone else to take over once I have released my basic version of the city. Let me know!
Hinc domum meam videre possum!
I Am perplexed about one aspect of the reconstruction.
In ancient Rome the highest floors of the insulae were inhabited by the poorest people, not the richest as it is customary today, the last floor was unstable and the least safe in order to run away in case of fire (very, very frequent). Moreover, the insulae were a cheap type of housing, and their constructors took no chance in wasting precious space for terraces and dehors at the upper floor of buildings (which, by the way, were not in demand, the poor people inhabiting the upper floors had enough problems in heating their small flats and rooms with the inadequate heating systems of the time against the cold winter wind in Rome, which can really be very cold!). Yet, your reconstruction shows a lot of terraces and dehors on the upper floors of the insulae, terraces decorated with flowers and (seems to me in one case) tents, as if it were the outplace of a posh loft in New York (or in modern Rome)!
Things were different at the time, you should consider that.
I would answer this with the proof links, but your ‘should’ leaves me no choice. Good bye.
❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉WOW !! JUST LOVE ! THIS ,!.. VIDEOS!!!!...😎LIKE !! FLYING 😂!! BACK !! IN !!TIME!👍THANKS ! ✋AVE!✋
The density would be rated as inhuman today. So many people on so littel space.
