    Thanks Cody, for going into detail about front spindles on the Yamaha YZs. Mystery solved!

    Would love to see a tutorial on removing the tender spring. I've got a 2017 129 Yeti kit. Thanks for sharing this info and the tips! Keep it coming!

      Its super easy, not tutorial needed, just have to loosen the Allen key screw on the threaded collar, then loosen the collar off, pull spring off and throw just the main one back on, measure length of spring, then screw preload collar back down, and adjust it till spring length is 8mm shorter

    Very nice tutorial. I like my riot s. I'm 5'7" and the lower seat height gives me way more confidence. Is there a way to lower the yeti kit and still have a balance between a lower seat height and good ride?

    • @CodyMatechuk111
      @CodyMatechuk111  3 роки тому +1

      The yeti kit seat hight is actually a lot lower then the timber sled, like the foot peg and the handlebar height is around 3 inches different. so I think just the cassis will fit you better and you wouldn't have to sacrifice handling

    Tons of great stuff here. Thank you. A couple questions. What soft strut do you recommend? I have not been a fan of the yeti front ski in crusty snow or deep powder turns, but it was a 2017 ski with airpros for increased fork pressure. After watching this video, now I'm thinking the problem may have been the spindle (position of ski bolt and height). Has yeti made any other changes to the actual ski/shape design since then? My brother runs the 2017 yeti 129 track with the timbersled traverse ski and we've really liked that. Have you ever tried that ski? Also do you run the selkirk heat exchanger and do you run heated bars? :)

    • @CodyMatechuk111
      @CodyMatechuk111  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Joe. so for the soft strut, there is only 1 soft strut that yet offers, the new one to the old handles the same just has different fitment options but does the same thing.
      the yeti ski problem you have I guarantee that it is just some setup, the 2022 spindle is wicked, the yeti ski has more bite then the rest so the process of setup is important, there is more bite so there is more potential for aggressive riding, just have to get setup proper. the skis, yes there is different skis but they are not different shapes, different material and construction for durability and different flex

    Yeah that's helpful, thanks! I'm actually going out tomorrow to test my system after building it all since summer. A lot to figure out. Got my forks done by Dan Moore with Evo. I'm in rural Alaska & we've got pretty epic terrain. Check out my recent upload if you're interested.

    Hey Cody, you say you set up the slack a bit negative on your mountain ride and just kinda eyeball it. How much shorter on the strut do you think you're going 1/4" 1/2"? love your videos. I'll be running a 137 timbersled this season on a 17 yz450fx

    • @CodyMatechuk111
      @CodyMatechuk111  2 роки тому +1

      You just want your chassis sitting like a Moto, not leaned forward or leaned back, don't look at the angle of the kit, look at the angle of the forks and seat!

    Hey Cody, Great video that will help set up this year. I have a timbersled but I think the physics will be similar. Do you have any videos or info on power options? There are so many different things you can do for engine performance. What are some of the upgrades you've done in that area? Im riding a 2017 yz450fx and find myself needing more power in quite a few situations these days.

      Hey Justin, Personally I am a fan of stock motors because of the ease of running pump gas and the reliability, I have had a built motor and it was wicked but a pain in the ass at the same time. Upgrading to a 2020+ YZ 450F and not the FX would be a huge benefit for you.
      What I ran last year and what I will be running this year is the PLX Sport ECU that C3 Powersports sells with a RP Race exhaust. this combo rocks! throwing just a high comp or just a head polish at your bike you probably wont notice much unless you really deep dive into the motor

    • @jrose910
      @jrose910 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the advise. I’ve wondered about the C3 but they have not claimed any hp numbers for their ecu’s. I have their thermo and intake though. It’s good to know your getting around like you do on the stock motor. I’m so jacked for the snow this season and just wanting to start hitting that next level.

    I have a 22 yz450f with a riot kit and I'm wondering how necessary it is to have the trip front shock? Is stock suspension good enough?

    • @CodyMatechuk111
      @CodyMatechuk111  5 місяців тому

      Hey, Thankyou for the question. Simply put, no Stock suspension is not enough. There is two roads to go down... Trio or Sending your suspension away. You will save money with sending your suspension away but will have to have your suspension worked on twice a year if your switching between summer and winter with the same bike. The handling is also better with getting RMR Suyspensions to rework your stock suspension compared to throwing a shock on the front.

    Hi Cody, thanks for the insight! What do you think of the following setup, KTM 300XC (2018) and YETI 120 SS. We ride the bikes mostly on technical tracks (what we call here the hydro lines). Medium snow levels. We are not looking for deep powder and jumping. But if we do encounter deeper powder, will it be ok? Getting mixed messages from the dealers.

    • @CodyMatechuk111
      @CodyMatechuk111  Рік тому

      Hello Carmine, Thankyou for the question. The biggest difference from the 120ss to the other models that yeti has is not just the size, its the makeup of the track. The track is designed stiffer, shorter lug for increased grip on track. Depending on the year of your system this may be better or worse. What this short and stiff paddle means is... A stiff paddle that doesn't flex in powder means it will Dig more, digging leads to trenching, with a softer back country track they flex and scoop which treats floatation and gets you onto of the snow. So it will really depend how much snow your riding in, and what kind of base you have. I don't think there is a right answer one way or the other you just will sacrifice in some areas and gain in others. the goal being to have more pros then cons.

    Good Afternoon Cody : I've only seen one snowbike in my day that had independent front suspension . I.E. this was having 2 regular front shocks with 2 side by side skis that were able to move independently of one another . When I saw it , the machine was a bit too far away for me to see if it had a front fork brace or not . Have you seen a machine with such a front end ?

    • @CodyMatechuk111
      @CodyMatechuk111  2 роки тому

      Yes I know the setup your talking about, I will include a link to it, they do not make it anymore, I never got a chance to ride one but front what I herd the 1 ski design is just better in more conditions, but sounds like it did work pretty neat! snoriderswest.com/article/general/x2_dual_ski_snow_bike_front_suspension_system

      The two ski snowbike front ends were amazing works of art...but they worked horribly! Ha. I bought a twin ski setup and tried on my snowbike (this was 3 kits ago and back in 2015 or so). Someone was selling the twin ski front end for 1/2 the price (which should have been a red flag, but hey, I was curious so I bought it). I had the twin ski setup on for one ride and pulled it off and sold it (being fully honest to the buyers that they worked horribly, but he wanted to experiment with it). The twin ski setup was terrifying on the trail. Ha. And that is compared to a 2014 Timbersled front ski which wasn't real great either. Modern snowbike skis and spindles, from all the manufacturers are much better than single skis from back then and that twin ski setup was the worst of the worst.
      CMX snowbikes sold them with their kits for a short period of time and then they switched to the Yeti spindle and ski (and later to their own spindle and ski) because the dual ski setup only worked in very specific conditions and were bad the rest of the time. But again, those twin ski setups were a work of art. Billet goodness. For what I sold it for, I should have just hung it on the wall in the shop to look at because they were so beautiful (and looking at them was the only thing they were good for).

    Cody. What brand of engine blanket is that on your newer bike? Looks like it does well with keeping the snow out.

    Trying to setup a tether on my 2011 yz450f durapro magnetic tether sadly doesn’t work. What do you run? It looks like you have one installed trying to get an idea why the durapro isn’t working with it?
