How does the amount of power a stereo receiver has affect the sound quality it produces? In this video I will get you 4 live sound comparisons on the same speakers between the peachtree nova 150 and the Marantz SE4023. 150wpc Peachtree vs 80wpc Marantz. Who will win? These sound samples will prove it
Peachtree vs Marantz. The peachtree nova 150 has already made a name for itself again many rivals from naim, rega, rotel, hegel... but how much does difference can a receiver make to a stereos system's overall sound? The peachtree nova 150 is one of the best integrated amplifier 2019

A fairer comparison would be your peachtree against even a Marantz PM8006 integrated amp. I won't say anything about the much higher priced Marantz amps (lest your jaw completely drops/deforms). But, At 300 dollars less than the peachtree even, the 8006 would completely btchsmack your dumass peachtree.
@@wa2368 thanks for the opinion! Interesting to hear, as I've found the Peachtree's punch WAY above their price point in terms of performance
@@wa2368 I have both the Marantz pm8006 and the peachtree and the peachtree has more definition to the sound .
Do or did you have that Marantz hooked up to your tv,
I’ve been trying for the last 5 days to do it but i can’t..
Any tips?
It’s ok, I gave up & Bought A Yamaha.
As mentioned, volume level matching is imperative.
In fact, volume differences alone will bias most listeners
enough to make a comparison test invalid.
The remedy is simple though through the many free and low cost sound meters for iOS/Android.
Carefully... match the volume.
Thank you for your good efforts.
Wow. The soundstage really opens up. Nova sounds so much smoother, darker background, more neutral. The mid-bass seemed a little empty though, not punchy like the Marantz - I wonder if a polarity adjustment would have improved the mid-bass “presence.” Marantz definitely seemed to have an overall harshness.
Literally the first time I actually hear a difference in one of these UA-cam comparisons and yes Peachtree wins. And I'm a Marantz fanboy. Oh this is hard!
Love the glossy finish on the peachtree... great video!
Oh wow what a difference in the imaginf and imagine its from a microphone wow u sold me to Peachtree for my totems, the sound just envelopes and surrounds u! Great
Yeah definitely opens up the soundstage as well as a more analytical response from the Peachtree. When you switch over to the Marantz it sounds muscular and weighty in the bass to midbass range slightly bloated but most likely due to the speakers being kind of close to the wall, the Marantz sound is very pleasing and warm though :) . But you can tell with the Marantz it's missing the mids to high hump. When you jump back to the Peachtree it's a lot flatter in frequency over all them and is more of a balanced sound. Also the warmer and more dynamic sound is coming from the Marantz due to it's an A/B amplifier and the Peachtree is a Class D amplifier. Both sound great in their own right, even though the audio recording isn't the greatest it's amazing that you can hear the sound difference so abruptly. Good video my friend!
Since you aren't likely to be taxing the power reserves in either unit for this video, the biggest difference in what you are hearing is likely due to the truly excellent DAC in the Nova. Peachtree has always had excellent DACs in their integrated and the new Nova's take that even further.
I run a pair or small bookshelves with my Nova150 and it's the one piece of gear that I have no interest whatsoever in upgrading. It's far better than every other combination I have used in my office and that includes gear from Rogue, Audio Research, and others, including a few vintage boxes and a Decco65.
The old Peachtree Decco65 was also good, but suffered from fatigue that many early Class D designs suffered from. The Nova 150 has none of that, It is just as enjoyable 5 hours in as the first song. I will likely be adding one of it's bigger brothers (300 or 500) in my Den to power my GoldenEar Triton 1.r's.
Add that it has just about the perfect feature set for an integrated - Excellent, very capable DAC, very good MM phono stage, HT bypass, Preamp/Power Amp In/Out, dedicated reclocked USB input for iPhones, and a very useful (and becoming rare on integrateds) processor loop and it's nearly perfect.
Thanks for the video! And especially thanks for bringing that Allan Taylor album to my attention! An excellent listen all the way through!
Thanks for sharing this as both brands are known to have warm sound and are great amps.
2 issues with this video:
1) You should not have mentioned anything about any amps. That introduced bias from the get go for the Peachtree. When I run headphone tests with friends, I tell them they're all the same price, just tell me which you think sounds better. There should be no bias otherwise people will lean towards your words over trusting their own ears.
2) The amps are not volume matched. The Peachtree is running 5-7dB lower on average which is why some say the Marantz sounds fuller. It's louder. My ears could tell there was a volume difference and my sound meter confirmed it.
For the general audience: If you're running bookshelves, in my opinion get a Marantz AVR, get a subwoofer (or 2) and cross them over at 100hz-60Hz based on your bookshelves low end performance in room and which frequency they best blend together.
If you're running towers and no plan to get subs, get the Peachtree.
Thanks for the feedback! Always much appreciated. I'm not sure how the volume got mismatched by such a noticable amount, but will certainly aim to remedy that in future comparisons
@@LifestyleLab_ you can get sound meter for $1.99 for your phone. They're free but I hate ads that pop up full screen from time to time reminding that you didn't pay $1.99 for the app so they will continue to annoy you. I love Peachtree Audio
@@cyberathlete Good to know!
Sounds like it's a DAC issue not a power issue. I bet if you turned the gain on the Peachtree down it'll still sound awesome :D
Peachtree 150 is much more of a laid back sound in which one can enjoy for hours. Marantz sounded a lot brighter, one can get fatigued by it.
it's like listening to a system with SRS surround enabled vs. disabled. The Marantz is very flat sounding and the Nova sounds more airy and full sound
Yeah the peachtree is much better. But isn't this comparing apples and oranges. A cheap Marantz receiver to a high end stereo receiver. It would make more sense to compare this with some of the high end stereo amps you listed: naim, rega, rotel, hegel
Those PM-1s are amazing. Dream speakers.
Wow, that's about as night and day as it gets. You were definitely doing those PM1s a disservice by running them off of only 80wpc. The mocha gloss on the Peachtree is stunning
From what I heard
The Marantz had a fuller sound with more kick and the peachtree handled the full range a lot better with more clarity but I found the high end to be a little distorted. Might just be my headphones however.
i came for the nova but left with the marantz..
Makes me glad I just ordered a Peachtree!
How do you like your purchase ? What speakers do you have ?
@@stsimtso love it. I'm using Vandersteen 1Cs.
Thanks for the video. I like these videos. "Blind test" is the way to compare amps.
Wow. That Peachtree sounds amazing. Spacious with clarity. Thank you for the video!
It can only sound as good as your speakers you listening watching this video. You and who made this comparison are out of touch with reality.
This is exactly that, a comparison, not an attempt to faithfully reproduce an experience. The same way you could tell the difference between a recording of a boom box play a song vs a recording of a live singer, you can tell the DIFFERENCES between two sound systems without being able to hear the full representation
I have a good pair of denon headphones, and it's night and day difference for me. Peachtree Nova 150 is in another league
To me the Peachtree sounds more refined, which I imagine would lead to a less fatiguing experience. The Marantz gets your attention at first but it doesn't sound as clean as the Peachtree (it would probably be good for a loud environment; I choose Peachtree for a relaxing, solo listening session). Of course all this is my subjective opinion, and in-person this may all change. I definitely have my eyes on the Nova150 as my next upgrade
Yes, I also thought Peachtree sounded cleaner and more balanced.
To my ears the Marantz sounds fuller on most of the recordings here while the Peachtree on some of the recordings slightly edges the Marantz in terms of details but both amps are pleasurable to listen to with your speakers, cant go wrong with either amp. Thanks for sharing!
The marantz really pushes the music along and the peachtree finesses it
Interesting comparison. Difficult to confirm hearing with UA-cam compression if the higher and lower tonality details are still maintained. PM1s have an amplifier recommendation of 100W. The Marantz puts out 80W/c. Overpowering the speakers by 15-20% increases the performance considerably. This probably increases speaker dynamics, boosting imaging, mids and overall airiness of the PM1s. I've noted same issue with my newer Marantz AVR (60W/c) vs a 10 year old Marantz AVR (100W/c). Looking to get a Peachtree Nova 150 for my desktop.
I have the Nova 300 and my only fault in it is the Headphone amp is not able to drive my HD800s, but otherwise it is amazingly brilliant amp.
The difference is so much visible on headphones but not on speakers. Why is that? Listening with Audio Technica M50x and Elac B2s.
Good comparison I think the marantz sounded better brighter I like that but love it thanks for posting it. P.S. just UA-cam no headphones
A brilliant Peachtree amp ! Why hide such a beaut? I would put it front and centre on the top!
Because it would be in the way of the projector screen :)
I couldn't tell much but to be quite honest the Marantz sounded better they the THREE sets of earbuds one set was Sony, one was anker and one was bose, weird, maybe it was the mic? Idk but they both sounded great.
I totally agree. I find the Marantz soundstage more narrow but to me the Marantz sounded brighter, more direct and had better lows. I don't know why all the other people think that the Peachtree is (so much) better?
The Peachree offers silky fullness. I'm seriously thinking about upgrading from the Yamaha A-S801 to the Nova 300.
I dont have enough good things to say about Peachtree. I support your upgrade ;) haha
I upgraded the A-S801 to the Marantz PM8006 and the jump up in sound was significant. Ditch that S801.
GREAT JOB my friend 😉👍
Sick video I’ve been dying for a new peachtree review I’m going to be pulling the trigger on a nova 300 for my motion 60 xt’s such a beautiful looking amp especially in the ebony mocha...peachtree sounded night and day better imo guy from peachtree said it will need 200 hours of burn in and then judge the sound compared to your previous amp...just wondering did you do this before this comparison?
Did you get the peachtree? I'm heading to a audio show room for a guy to show me what different ones sound like. He thinks for what I want, class d is not the way. I'm gonna end up getting something for 3 or 4k, but the guy assures me when I hear them side by side that I'll have no doubt about what to get
Peachtree Nova 150 Winner!
PM-1 + Peachtree = BLISS ❤️
+ PV1D 👌👌👌👌
To all. You understand that you don't have them amplifiers in your room? Or the speakers he plays on? You can only hear what your speakers are capable of. Freak show. Its the same 'stoopid' level as watching monitor reviews and saying "wow colors on this display looks so good". If you already can hear the quality of the amp and them expensive speakers, why would you need to ever buy one if you already capable of having that quality sound without even purchasing them. Please take a moment for this to sink in. The difference you hearing is the microphones interpretation of the sound, then his recording device ability to convert analog to digital. Then you get to your computer, goes trough your DAC into your speakers. These amp or speaker comparison videos are useless. The only thing is useful are the comments of the guy who is actually in the room. Please spread this message cause degradation level reached unseen heights in youtube.
Haha. I fell into this trap years ago as well. When you actually stop and think about it, you are only ever hearing your own speakers which likely have completely different frequency ranges than ones heard in the video. Especially when the speaker you are listening on is of lower quality than the one you are seeing on video. Many frequencies will not even be heard on your phone or small speaker and people will blame the speaker in the video. 🤣 Then there is other unknown factors like the microphone used to capture the sound which is also changing the original sound.
It's like saying "Wow, look at how high resolution that screen is!" While they are viewing it on a screen with lower resolution. 😆
Welcome to the world of class D amps and their stunning clarity. I can hear the Peachtree's lack of sonic masking compared to the Marantz. Typical class D superiority. My old Panasonic XRS55 crushed amps 5x its price. Glad they worked with the demanding B&Ws.
Interesting how opinions differ - from mine :D
I definitely liked the Marantz more in this comparison. The midrange, especially on the vocals was more forward on the Marantz, and the slightly veiled vocal performance of the Nova made it a straight no-go for me.
Yes, I agree.
Wow!! That is unbelievable. Major upgrade. Thank you for doing this. I have a NAD C338 integrated and wanting to step up. I’m hopeful that the Peachtree will be the ticket. I plan to pair with with my B&W DM303 bookshelf speakers and add a Bluesound Node 2i. Do you still like it?
I have mine paired with the Bluesound Node2i as well!
Great setup for the money, although the bluesound app can be a little buggy if you switch inputs often
@@LifestyleLab_ Got my Nova 150 and BlueSound Node2i - LOVE IT! Really made a huge difference. BTW - I follow you for coffee too! I have a Barista Express. Learned a lot from your channel. Keep em coming!
Absolutely fantastic pairing, enjoy!
Coffee and speakers, what's not to love!
Imaging is amazing in the nova
The speaker sounds distorted.
Either it's overdriven or recording level not adjusted properly.
I keep returning to his video! The Marantz sounds a little more weighty but the Peachtree sounds a little more airy at least to my ears! Its all very subjective! All I know is to get the very best out of any speakers you have to drive them to their fullest either with a high current amp or at 120 or more watts per channel.. What I like about the Peachtree is the built in Sabre dac which can work with my I-Phone. Too many built in dacs are for laptop use only! What is your digital source in comparing the two integrated amps?
The source was a 2019 Macbook Pro running TIDAL connected straight to the DAC
I can hear the difference but cant make up my mind which is better. Nova sounds a but clear, the Marantz a bit muffled.
Well I guess it depends if your prefer your audio clear or muffled then ;)
For me its totally the other way around. Nova sounds muffled and Marantz clear, direct and more dynamic.
I think it's the extra power making a difference here - the Marantz doesn't have enough grunt to drive those speakers properly.
Yes...listening through my dac and AKG headphones, there is a huge depth difference and the Peachtree is less congested more fluid.
Granted this video is a year old but the PTA sounds way better than that Marantz. Usually Marantz is known for giving music a warm pleasant sound but here it just sounds airy and under powered. Decent comparison video however I think it would’ve been better if the Marantz was putting out 150w vs 80w/channel. Also the room has a huge acoustic affect on how music sounds.
Do you still own the PTA nova150? I’m thinking about getting it.
Still own the Peachtree and love it every day! Now have a Bluesound Node 2i and B&W PV1D rounding out the system
I like the Marantz
okay I like the peachtree better on track 2
As for the sound: Nova is not the same league with Marantz.
The song of Allan Taylor - Colour to the moon reveals the Truth of the 2 amps!
Do you think this has more to do with the increased power? or increased QUALITY of power? I guess both...
That is an awefully tough question to answer without another A/B test to a lower/higher end receiver that also has 150wpc, which I have yet to do. Next video!
Peachtree Nova 150 ! Very pleasant, deep sound with my Denon 7200 headphone. You can enjoy long time of listening. Thanks for the video
i didn’t know peachtree made receivers... ;)
Beautiful
Great video. Is there a reason you didnt choose the nova 300? No need for power? Cost?
Didn't feel the need for more power for the PM1s and my listening space :) just added a PV1D for a little more punch
@@LifestyleLab_ did you compare to any class A or class AB amps?
The Peachtree sounds clean vs. the Marantz, I am curious though, the Peachtree appears to be maybe 10-15% reduced in overall volume. Any insight?
I did my best to match volumes, but this is likely just my error. With almost double the power, the Peachtree can play much MUCH louder than the Marantz (speakers would likely go first)
Not sure that the volume is much different, but the kids on the Marantz are very congested and gives that impression. All the space in the recording is just not there. The Nova is just much more open.
@@LifestyleLab_ in fact that's not true. Douple the power gives you 3 db more. That's not so much
With my LS50, Marantz sounds better but with Fostex TH900 and Sennheiser HD800 headphones Peachtree Nova150 sounds more mellow and easy to listen to.
Peachtree obviously.
Need help with upgrade path. Currently tidal on tv into modi 3, into Peachtree nova (80 watts) into crown xls (1000 watts) into Maggie lrs. Thank you ur a rock star.
Unfortunately, I have little experience with Magnepans, so I wont comment on your speaker and amplification choice. However, a natural upgrade I can see would be to replace the modi 3 and older Peachtree nova with a new Peachtree Nova 150. The internal DAC on this receiver is spectacular and will outperform the modi 3, while also cleaning up your setup and giving you a very capable integrated amplifier if you ever decide to move to less power hungry speakers
I have the same speakers, and have a old burson audio dac and amp that has 70-80watts per channel.
That peach tree sounds amazing. However, kind of an unfair comparison. The Marantz is a receiver /higher distortion / the peach tree is way lower distortion but no source ...
What do you mean when you say the Peachtree has no source?
@@LifestyleLab_ I think what he means is that when it comes to AVR vs integrated amps, AVRs have a tendency to have higher distortion then the latter due to having more components stuffed in one chassis vs a greater degree of separation thus electrical distortion that’s typical with integrated amps.
Ah, could be!
But in this case both are 2.1 stereo receivers. That Marantz has no AV capabilities
Marantz sounds here like connected mono - simply
We’re did you get those feet for the nova
I made them on my lathe (I know, not very helpful)
Do you think the Peachtree Nova would combine well with the Kef R3's?
Yes! I think the smoothness of the Peachtree would play well with the very high detail resolution of KEF
@@LifestyleLab_ Thanks, I was thinking exactly the same. Do you think the Nova 150 has enough juice to drive them decently?
Yes for sure
I would say so. I have the nova 65se and q300s (looking to upgrade to nova 150 sometime) unsure what speakers to upgrade to.
MARANTZ👌👌👌👌👌❤💕
To me Marantz is more open with better clarity, Peachtree is a little more muffle, but is has more lower frequency/resonance, usually that's pleasing to the ears.
I like Marantz more, it has a more sound color. Peachtree is lighter but the color of the sound is washed out.
Wow went from 2d to 3d watching on yt on tablet
It mite just be me, But don't get me wrong as Beautiful as the Peach 🍑 tree is, it sounds a bit anemic, compared to the dynamic range the Marantz has and again just my opinion.
No comparison the marantz is far better. There was another vid done comparing the Peachtree to Rega brio at almost half the price of the Peachtree & the owner preferred the Rega citing a fuller bodied & mascular sound which is basically the same as what i heard in this vid whereby the Marantz sounded more full bodied & solid. Here’s the vid
ua-cam.com/video/n-ac_bVq_Xk/v-deo.html&feature=sharec
As expected, Class D technology is still not up there against conventional Class AB.
Assuming "Class AB is superior to Class D" is an extremely narrow-minded and downright incorrect generalization to make. The Peachtree crushed the Marantz in this comparison.
OMG, the Marantz SE4023 sounds like Mono? Is there something wrong with that amp? Is Marantz SE4023 very old model?
The Peachtree Nova 150 sound amazing !
Marants has stronger vocal
AV Receiver vs amplifier, the latter will win every time
This Marantz is not an AV receiver. It is a dedicated 2.1 integrated stereo amplifier, same with the Peachtree.
@@LifestyleLab_ ok, looks massive like an AV receiver.. How are you using the Peachtree as I saw a projector screen in your video
Digital optical output on the projector to the Peachtree for audio :)
@@LifestyleLab_ nice, using cambridge audio cxa 60, would like to try the peachtree some day, pretty expensive in Australia
Does the Peachtree have home theater bypass if I want to use alongside my Denon / home theater set-up?
Marantz
Peachtree has terrible quality issues...its goes kaput and here in India there's no service center and many people are stuck with what to do with the amp
I have worked deeply in the industry and can say that is simply not the case. Peachtree represents great value for money, and quality
With that being said, it not a great idea to purchase an expensive piece of AV equipment in a country that has no capability to service it.
marantz more detail..............
More vocal
That peach tree simply kills Marantz.
Nice marantz series 4 its a low low sound quality...
Marantz series 6 7 8 its 100 times beter ..
Marantz and onkyo are the kings in sound in range on 400-4000 euro
My marantz nr1501 50w its a real 125w not 50w
My other marantz sr 5003 95w 105db its in fapt pusht at 430w 118db ...
Speakers are ciare 12" 120db diy..
How its so powerfool marantz..????? U need electricity 240 w minim and nice speakers...
Ps...marantz 50w and 95w on PA speakers 600w 1200w peack plays 10 hour at maximum.....
How???? Simple
Its marantz
It sounds to me like the Marantz is set to mono playback whereas the Peachtree is in stereo.
beaucoup plus de délicatesse sur le nova, le son est moins crispé.
beaucoup moins projeter. plus vrai.
Comparing a Marantz 500$ unit to a 1500$ unit is unfair
That was the point of the video, is the money worth it
@@LifestyleLab_ its what we call PAID MARKETING
You honestly think this is a paid review of either of these products????
@@LifestyleLab_ yes you earn by use of affiliate marketing...thats how you lure poor users by showing such unfair comparison...why do use GENERIC WORD LIKE MARANTZ
I'm just comparing my old receiver and my new one in case anyone else found the results interesting... not sure why you're getting so upset about that. These are the only two receivers I have on hand... the affiliate link is very clearly disclosed
Peachtree sound is better than marantz
I'll take my McIntosh over both ;)
Sliiiiightly different price point...
Lol
As a Nova 150 Owner since it first came out, I'll take it over an entry level Mc like the 5300. If you want to get up in the higher end like the 6700, Give me the Nova 500. I am actually considering replacing my Audio Research main system with a Nova 500.
Oh the peachtrea is amazing oh shut up and think for yourselves just because he suggest's the peachtrea you all agree . Well I think that the marantz wins hands down and if you cannot hear that then you shouldn't be listening to music . HA
