Time gets shorter as these games get longer. That's perfect advice, Matthew. That solution seems like it'd be apparent, but it's so easy for me to get overwhelmed and stressed, forgetting why these games mean so much to begin with. I'm going to re-focus on the people part more, instead of stressing about the games/systems/minis/fomo/etc. etc.

When you were talking about the card game where you can set up fights between different characters from different universes, it made me think about the Unmatched series. I love that game for exactly that reason. Its a nice blend of miniatures and cards. There is also a stand-alone but compatible version that's cooperative, where you can use any of the characters you own if you wish.

We just take a break from games. Sometimes for months, but when we jump back in we jump in HARD. We barely played games during march and april, but since mid may we've been playing games constantly. Sometimes stepping away for a bit makes you enjoy it more.

Burnt out on board games? This might sound odd, because it means surrounding yourself in them for multiple days, but attending a board game convention always energizes me!

    1. Games I want to talk about more are ones I’m afraid of being judged for liking because they have a niche audience or appeal. While I don’t play it a lot and know why others refuse to play it, I love Pendulum and think it’s a very clever and fun game. Lately I have been obsessed with Sonic Roll, a game I thought I wasn’t interested in when I saw it at a con and then impulse bought at B&N and ended up loving it for solo and 2p play.
    2. Counting cards feels almost necessary in trick taking games, especially trying to pull off a mermaid play in Sail, but I’m not good at it. I can definitely relate to having someone just have things figured out in a way that makes the game feel imbalanced and that’s why I typically look for players and games where the playing field is slightly more even and casual.
    3. Burn out is one thing but going through phases is completely normal and I try not to force myself to do anything. I am going through a phase lately where I spend more time on creative pursuits than playing board games and I think allowing myself that freedom will help me avoid burnout. It also helps that if I’m not actively playing games frequently I also stop acquiring games, though I acquire them at a slow pace anyway.

Cat in the Box is a great game for leveling the playing the field for card counting if you really like trick taking games.

The game counting cards for you is great. But there's always that question of what one card everyone else discarded was.
      Anyway, love this game.

Listen... I love Frosthaven. Can't talk about it, can't ever play it, but I love it. (And I know no one cares). But I love it.

I also struggle with the same player who can card count, i find roll and writes or other forms of randomness can defeat her...

A ten year old game I love to prostalatize is Murano. It's just so brilliant and has seemingly been forgotten. It's hard to get to the table cause it looks so dull and old.
Also, I got the CR Multiversus and I really like it but wow is it a bear to learn. I've watched so many videos and we still have moments and keywords where the spinning wheel of death appears over my head.

I used to want to talk about Spellsmashers a lot. It's the word deck building that I enjoy both theme and mechanism, the wounds make word forming challenging but not impossible, and the solo is an absolutely fun tower defense game. But there are more popular and recent games in the genre that might be more available.
I also want more people to discover Vampire: the Eternal Struggle, a former ccg (now functionally an lcg). But hearing the arguments against it on BGG's The Quad, I cannot disagree with them. I still wish people would try it out.

The one game I'll probably never shut up about is Yomi. I played a lot of fighting video games competitively back in my day, so translating that terminology and logic to Yomi was pretty easy. And since I have that experience, reading people's moves in tight situations is pretty easy for me, too.
Unfortunately, not everyone has the same experience and they call the game "just rock-paper-scissors," which is a little disappointing. But if it were just rock-paper-scissors, would the same person win every time?
Anyway, love the game. Horrible card layouts and confusing instructions, but love the game.

I have trouble talking to people about TTPRGs. Some of my friends will listen to me ramble on about adventures I am am planning. Right now I am running The Thirty Moons System. An Equestria Girls TTPRG. The cross section of people I can talk to about My Little Pony and TTRPGS is the two people I am running the game for. XP
