Per 247 Sports, Michigan's 2023 recruiting class ranked #14. Washington's ranked #26. Michigan has two 5 star players (McCarthy and Will Johnson), forty-five 4 star guys and thirty-eight 3 stars. Washington has no 5 stars (Penix, believe it or not, was a 3 star recruit), twenty-seven 4 stars and forty-nine 3 stars. Kudos to both programs for beating 5 star packed Alabama and Texas.

You forgot Edward's, he was a 5 star.

For the record, against Arz State, Washington turned the ball over 4 times - three times in the red zone. The Sun Devils played with a lot of 'fire' but that game was sort of an anomaly as the Huskies don't turn the ball over much. Could have easily been a three td win, as Arizona State couldn't score, even with all the gifts. Bottom line, a win is a win.

Here we go again. Oregon will beat them. Ok, ok, Oregon will beat then at a neutral site. Ok, Texas is the most complete team, better athletes defense way too good. Ok, ok, Michigan. Michigan is the most complete team for real this time. Great defense better athletes. Again, with the underrating and the over rating. Michigan's defense beat the #129, 42, 108, 116, 120, 124, 102, 127, 72, 54, 69, 49, 133, and 71st offences in the nation. You impressed with that?! All the analytic Vegas gambling nerds, podcasters, TV pundits and analysts hypnotized by misleading and faulty computer models. -
Let’s not get it twisted. Washington had a stretch where they were not healthy, injuries to key players and team wide flu that impacted their performance against Arizona and others. Then there was the kid that dropped the ball before crossing the goal line (-7 pts). - Now they’re up against a Michigan team with the 70th ranked offense in nation, 43rd ranked strength of schedule, and played only 4 ranked teams Penn State (10), Ohio State (2), Iowa (16), Alabama (4). McCarthy threw for 300+ yds. once (335) Purdue Corum Rushed for 100+ yds. twice (145) Penn State, Wilson had one 100 yd. receiving (143) Purdue. Ohio State’s Harrison Jr. went for 118 receiving yds. and Michigan’s vaunted defense had only 1 sack.
That Rose Bowl game was sloppy and unimpressive by both teams. Alabama had no business being in the final 4. Lost to Texas and beat a bad Auburn team by a fluke play. Classic over value of SEC and Saban. An average Bama team gashed Michigan’s run defense for 172 yds. and Penn State gashed them for 164 yds. Does anyone think that Michigan could beat Oregon once let alone twice? Alabama threw for 116 yds., Penn State for 70. Yikes! In what universe is a Michigan defense going to hold a Washington offence under 300+ yds. passing.!? -
Washington's defense only has to be good, competent which they are. Michigan's defense has to play lights out just like Oregon’s, and Texas had to. Washington doesn't have to win the line of scrimmage they just have to play even. They had to defend better mobile QBs than McCarthy, in Nix twice, Ward, Williams, and Ewers. Also defended much better receiver’s and rushers than what Michigan have on offer. Defense outlasted a high-powered USC offence.
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid narrative that every team is more physical than Washington on both sides of the ball it’s fiction! Washington can match any team’s physicality and then some. Urban Meyer and many pundits were seduced by the size of Texas front 7. Washington proved to be just as physical as Oregon twice, Oregon State, and Texas, 3 of the most physical teams on both sides of the ball in the nation. Washington won all 4 physical match ups despite being underdogs in 3. Michigan isn’t more physical that those 3 teams.
Common opponent Michigan State Spartans. Washington 39 Michigan State 28 Michigan 49 Michigan State 0
Penix Jr. 397 yds. 4 TDs, McCarthy 287 yds. 4 TDs, Davis 69 rush yds. 1 TD, Corum 59 rush yds. 1 TD, Polk 153 receiving yds. 3 TDs Barner153 receiving yds. 1 TD. - Many like to compare Washington to TCU, flawed and delusional, lacking insight but ok. Washington is more like TCU on steroids if you must use that comparison.
And TCU hung 51 on them with 263 rush yds. A better comparison in the 2017 and 18 Clemson teams both underdogs to Alabama, and the 2019 LSU offence with Joe Burrow. -
This Michigan team reminds me of all those Notre Dame teams that garner so much national attention and hype, their reputation gets them into the CFP, and they get blown out every time.
Washington was the only team of the final 4 that wasn't nervous to start, the other teams had the big game jitters. Washington was relaxed and ready to play, got a little cocky late in the game with the flee flicker but that’s Husky football. Can't predict injuries, put the ball in your best backs hands, called trust. Washington had the same situation in the late stages of the Oregon game, Johnson busted through the line for 20 yards and sat down to run out the clock.
Everyone dogging on the Huskies for not blowing teams out, silly. They played a much more demanding schedule ranked 10th in nation.
Harbaugh took a favored 49er squad to the Super Bowl and lost. Lost as a favorite to TCU. Sorry Michigan this will be a track meet on a fast track, an all out arial assault. You’re going to be the sacrificial wolverine Monday night for Washington to finally have a long overdue blowout win. Penix Jr. spins the rock like Warren Moon, Doug Williams and Dan Marino.
    Washington 42 Michigan 24.

Mich was more physical than anyone Washington played.
The defense was lights out and the Wash defense wasn't competent. All what was apparently needed for Mich to win. So in that sense he was correct lolol

Washington 35 Michigan 27 JJ McCarthy will have at least one critical interception that loses Michigan the game. He is just too inconsistent and his poor performance will cost Michigan the game.

Both of these teams would be bottom of the barrel as Natty winners in the playoff era. This was a down year with no S tier teams at all. I'd say there were a few more A- or B+ tier teams than normal, but really its an illusion because there were no S tier teams to weed out the pretenders in November and December.
Michigan had a trash schedule (8 opponents ranked 100 or worse in scoring offense, for example), had a relatively easy conference title matchup, and didn't beat anyone relevant by more than 9 points. They had to fight from behind and go to overtime to beat a Bama team who had a Center incapable of snapping the ball correctly to a QB who had like 60 yards passing (adjusted for 6 sacks).
Washington won 10 of its 14 games by 10 or less. Most of those opponents weren't even ranked.
Neither beat their first playoff opponent by more than 7. The truly great teams of the playoff era annihilated their opponents in the first round.

Michigan played there C+ game and still beat Bama lol. Last year's Georgia team that won the title got lucky on missed field goal by Ohio state remember that.

That Georgia barely won from a missed field Goal 😂 Michigan dominated Bama from the defensive end ,minus the mistakes.. This actually has been a really good year of college football.. the committee got this right, the best teams got in

Josh Pate he is like 0 and 100 picking against UW. I love picking against Pate. Pate is not good at all at what he does. It is here scary that he has a job. He gives up predicting when he was so free of himself early on and later in the year to pick against UW, again, again. So, he does not pick this time. Good pick for once Josh. How do you have a job? You and I should trade, because I and 200 million others are better than you are at your job. Media is a joke. Grow a spine. Watch a game, once in a while and do your own work and quit using your secret squirrels to run your errands and make your choices. UW is a better job than so Michigan. Deboer is great at UW and will win a few Nattie's or more and then decide.
