    I put my 170td in a bucket of water and ran it and it looked like a jetski. 4 years later, thing still runs amazing. I only blew the fuse shortly after doing the water test.

    172 clearly faster although I really like the way 171 looks tbh. I own the 171 and I personally love how the back is completely flat, it comes in handy lol. The rounded shape of the 172 is meh

    I've got the dtd171arx1 (limited edition red/maroon) that was released in Australia last year and I absolutely love it. I think it looks better than the 172 as well, not a fan of the rounded back end motor housing.

      This is the guy I buy from ebay.us/uKVUoM I have purchased 4 impacts from him so far. They usually take a week to arrive from Japan to NZ with FEDEX priority shipping which he only charged $18US for I think. Great service.

      I am hoping to do a video on this topic at some point. I haven't been using it enough to notice it being a problem, but would like to do some tests with a heat sensor and see how it behaves compared to other models.

    Did you noticed the lesser vibration from the 172?
    Also as seen in PF video, they have a different anvils, and probably the 172 is a newer and better one..?

    • @Fekillix
      @Fekillix 3 роки тому

      Primarily it is the shape of the anvil to fit the slimmer housing. The Japanese anvil also has a different fitment for bits, international bits will have three millimeters of in-and-out slop in the Japanese one.

    Question for you. How is the trigger control with the TD172D while in the highest speed setting compared to the XDT16? I notice with the XDT16 the variable speed starts nice and smooth as you slowly begin feathering the trigger but as you increase the speed to about medium speed it then jumps to high speed. Its like there's no gears in between medium speed and high. This is a real pain when feathering the trigger while putting in different size screws all day when you don't feel like messing with settings. I would totally get the TD172D if they improved this.

    Its feels like Milwaukee is falling behind by staying 18v. Makita is getting a jump on everyone especially once it's new platform is fully expanded. 80v chops and planes. 💪

      There is only so much power the batterys can put out. Doesnt matter if its 18v at 20 aps or 36v at 10, same same. Has nothing to donwith voltage but the motors and battery packs and management

    • @ryancox3834
      @ryancox3834 3 роки тому +1

      Only thing needing that much power is a mitre saw and I'd rather just plug it in.

    • @bossmanz28
      @bossmanz28 3 роки тому

      @@0j0nn your right about same output battery power but the higher voltage runs much more efficiently especially if your using it constantly all day. Watch other video on UA-cam and you will see m18 circular saw with high output battery overheat and kick the thermal protection while the flexvolt jus keeps going. The higher voltage will do the job with more ease which should also lead to longer tool life. O and 18v requires a larger motor to even try to handle it which increases size of tool.

    Regarding the 172 - it takes JIS bits, but is it still able to use regular (American?) bits? If both bits do work is it not advisable to use the bits the drill wasn’t designed to take? Or, do the American styl bits work just fine

    • @BuildsStuff

      I don't use JIS bits and it's fine. Just a little more back and forward play than other impacts.

    I have 2 of both and the DTD171 has more features, get less hot than the DTD172. The DTD171 looks a lot nicer than the DTD172 especially at the rear of the impact driver. If I had a choice of just one DTD171 all the way, best impact in the ramge so far. The DTD173 is not available in the UK yet, so you can't compare to that model.
