I work in retail and I had an issue like this. The computer pinpad was going funky so I brought it up to my direct supervisor who said to call the help desk. I said alright but before i did, I went to report the issue to the store manager just in case she needed to know. She also said to call the help desk. So i call the help desk and explain the issue. They confirm my identity, the computer, and the store. After going through everything, they check my employee badge and go "Yeah I cant help you, only a manager is allowed to call about this. So report it to your manager, and tell her to call us." And im like "Okay but she said to call you, I got authorized i call for this issue by her?" "Yeah but nothing we can do. Because if we fix it and she was working in a fix then it can be complicated" "But shes not, she told me to call you after I informed her." "Sorry, tell her to call us" "Okay thanks :)" And so that computer broke down and has been out of service for months.
My store manager told me to call the HR line to reactivate an employee that had been on leave so they could be put on register. Only an assistant store manager or store manager could do call for that. I apologized and explained I had been told to call by the store manager, and said his name, that I'd ask him to call them instead. Not sure what happened previously, but they reactivated the employee and said not to have that store manager call them. I was a coordinator, not a manager of any sort.
Help desks can be so infuriating. I called one (from a LANDLINE phone) when my cellphone randomly stopped charging and replacing the cord and block did nothing to remedy the situation. The guy simply could not wrap his brain around the concept that I couldn’t restart the phone or punch in any numbers or anything because it was dead and could not be charged. He then proceeds to ask me how it was possible for me to be calling him if my cellphone was not working…..I asked for a supervisor at the point because there was no way in hell I was going to waste more of my time talking in circles with that moron. He tried to avoid it but I hustled kept asking until he transferred me over to the supervisor. She helped me in no time and apologized for his stupidity. I’m guessing he got fired 😅
Now that I have watched the whole video, I just want to say for the record that my specific help desk gets almost universally good reviews 😂 but fr that guy was DEFINITELY high lmfao
I wouldn’t know but my limited knowledge tells me that guy was *very* high
After being a cal rep myself, i now (politely and calmly) ask for a supervisor whenever i doubt my rep's competence. It usually works.
I'm so glad that you're posting your stories here! Your stories are my favorite on all of TikTok!
