Seriously? I don't know what you were looking at, but if you look at the 1975 Olympia, you can see that Arnold had better legs and a better back. Nubret had a great chest, shoulders, and arms--pretty much the equal of Arnold's, and I'd give him abs over Arnold any day of the week--but his legs were somewhat subpar, and his back, while wide, didn't have a great deal of detail. Sorry, while politics might have played a part in S. Africa, in terms of body parts, the judges called it correctly. Ironically, while the filmmakers of Pumping Iron wanted to highlight the rivalry between Ferrigno and Arnold, Nubret finished second in the over 200-pound class.
Thank you for the great content and all your efforts! Serge and Zane are my two favorite bodybuilders of all time. The lines, shape, conditioning and esthetics are unmatched, true God like statues. Btw, what is the music you use at the beginning of your videos? Love it!
Crazy. I started doing some of those wide grip bench presses at 135 and 145 for full sets. It only gets your outer pecs but it’s nice. You can feel your serratus working too if you move your shoulders up at the top of each rep
Surge had one of the best physiques in bodybuilding, he wasn't overly huge like today's bodybuilders. And he certainly had one of the best chests. From looking at pictures of Surge when he was younger, you can tell he had great genetics to build his chest as he did. I trained natural all my life and I had a big chest by the time I was 16, bench pressing 300 at a body weight of 135 pounds.
I disagree, Arnod had a more impressive physique on stage and was bigger everywhere but still retained beautiful lines. Serge was awesome no doubt but standing right next to The Oak, I'll give it to Arnold.
I was looking at a Video the other day by Nash Jocic and in it he said he trained with Serge Nubret in his Gym in Paris and Serge did 40 sets of Bench pressing in 45 mins nothing else just Bench pressing continuously ,he did 12 reps and stopped for a short break of 30 seconds and kept on pumping and on another day he trained his Arms and did the same thing for 45 mins going from Cable curls supersetting them with push downs . He told Jocic that the muscle got bigger when it was pumped and all of the Amino Acids flushed the muscle ,his methods went against the norm for training where by people said the muscle grew when resting well he was the proof that his method did work and who could argue . Another good vid
igor stein, I remember reading about this type of training and i experimented with it a little bit myself ,they used to call it a blitz method of training where you mostly focus on one body part and just do basically set after set of a particular exercise with brief rest periods for several hours or sometimes all day long to try and bring up a lagging body part.

Serge Nubret's pecs were like two massive plates of armour. Perfect in symmetry, size, balance, simply perfection. Here is what I am convinced of 100%, if Charles Gaines had NOT been filming the 1975 Mr Olympia contest for the film Pumping Iron, and had the entire film not focused COMPLETELY on Arnold [remember almost every sentence even Lou Ferrigno utters in the movie contains Arnolds name too!] and making it obvious he was going to win before they ever got to South Africa simply due to the focus, and had it not been that the IFBB [Weider] had been paid a shit load to do the movie....if you remove those factors and bring it down to a competition of ANY OTHER YEAR... Arnold did not win, nowhere near. Remove the Pumping Iron cameras and Arnold would NOT have won and Serge Nubret would have smoked him to become Mr O. They say 1980 was the most rigged? Get real. [Oh and funnily enough, speaking of 1980 the year Arnold returned completely out of shape in Sydney and won a contest he was far from the best bodybuilder on stage at.....just happened to be being filmed by Charles Gaines as 'The Comeback'! ] NO DOUBT IN MY MIND SERGE NUBRET WAS ROBBED IN 75 DUE TO THE MOVIE.
A big reason why Frank Zane didn't want to be part of the movie! Frank called it "Pumping Arnold!" Danny Padilla wasn't allowed to compete either and be part of the Olympia. He probably would have beaten at least Franco and the Franco segment would not have worked!
If you look at the official scorecards from the 1972 Olympia, you see that Serge actually received TWO first place votes to Olivas one and that the margin of diference between him and Oliva for second overall was only two points. If anything, in my opinion, with those two first place votes, Nubret, not Oliva, actually would have been the one to have a claim he deserved the win.
Many people doesnt know that he did these sets of 12-25 reps to failure every set without exception, thats why he could benchpress 225kg when he only did 70-100kg for 12-25 reps.. failure was a key to increasing his strength. He was improving not only his endurance but his strength too by going to the failure each set, because during failure and few reps before failure you activate your fast twitch fibers of your muscles and before it you activate your slow twitch fibers of your muscles so he was improving both his endurance and his strength :D
After they told him he couldn't compete. He quit working out before the 75 olympia for a week or 2 and lost 10lbs of muscle. Then at the last minute joe "JOTO" Wieder decided he could compete. SMH
If he had a thicker, wider back, larger rib cage, and much better legs he might have stood a chance against Arnold Schwarzenegger. He just wasn't good enough.
