  • Hello everyone, glad to welcome you back to this video of the Swiss a220 noseview landing at London City Airport.
It has been a while. The pandemic brought a halt to our London city operations, and so I got rather excited when I received this flight with one of my favourite captains on the cseries.
We took off early in the morning to arrive around 8 o’clock at our destination. Crosswinds of up to 30 knots made this landing a very challenging one.
Also, this approach requires special training and procedures. For example, it is a six degree approach for both runways, 27 and 09. On the a220, the speedbrakes stay extended at about 30% during the entire approach. Il try to capture that next time I go to city as a wingview video for you guys.
If you guys feel like it, try a similar setup in Microsoft flight simulator on the same runway, you will appreciate this captains job even more when you know how hard it actually is to make it look so effortless and easy.
So I will let you enjoy the landing now, give this video a like and hit the subscribe button if you haven’t already fellas.
There’s more coming in the next few weeks, thank you especially to my patreon supporters, and of course to you, my subscribers.
Let me know in the comments below what you thought of this landing, the a220 and this special steep approach into London!
If you plan to go on a European trip, or you just want to witness this landing on your own, visit Swiss.com for great offers to flights to London City.
Always looking forward to read your comments,
Thank you all for watching, and see you in the next video!

I still can't get over how quick they can stop with the reverse thrust. Absolutely magnificent idea.

Now consider that LCY airport was initially designed in conjunction with, and for use by the BAE 146 type quadjet, which does NOT HAVE reverse thrust!

    • @marspp
      @marspp Рік тому +32

The reverse thrust is only a relatively small amount of stopping power , it’s the brakes that do the vast majority of the work, even on max reverse. Airliner brakes are hugely powerful and, in conjunction with anti-skid, can stop a plane eye-poppingly quickly.

@@BritishBeachcomber I think the East London docklands/Canary Wharf airport project was really targeted at financial sector operatives seeking mobility throughout European markets, but that's not the way it has worked out. As a touristic airport, LCY is woefully inadequate, and tourists will never recognize the intrinsic advantages of being a 10 min taxi run from Bank Street.

From a passenger approach this is the best airport in the UK, if not world. When at home I often see the LCY traffic flying overhead and when a passenger I love it coming in from the east along the Thames from Southend - sometimes I even see my own house out the window! Thanks for sharing.

Landed here on Monday night at the tail end of storm Isha. Prior to the landing the pilot announced in a butter smooth Scandi accent that the landing would be "Sporty". It was, on the way down. It was like riding a bike over pave. Very smooth touch down but you could feel him working the rudder hard before the nose wheel hit the tarmac. Embraer 190. I love flying in and out of LCY.

Amazing views of the alps on take off from zurich and than spectacular london at city. Never get board of this flight and looking forward to my next one from Zurich next week.

Impressive performance of both the flight crew and the aircraft. I have flown as a passenger several times into Chicago Midway airport, where the landings are always firm and braking is very intense due to the 6,500ft runways. Lol I can't even hold a camera still with the forces pulling me forward. I can only imagine what London City is like, considering you touched down firmly, braked hard, and didn't even use the entire runway length. The A220 shows here to be a plane with impressive capabilities!

My favourite airport in the Sim. My big gripe of the newer Microsoft Sim is it doesn't park the aircraft the right way round. Always has them facing the terminal. For the old MS Sim I designed my own take on this airport and didn't find it that hard to get AI aircraft coming in and parking the correct way round. One day............ But it is fun to land there. Nice landing.

Great, thanks for making it. Lots of wing wobble all the way in but you hit the deck at exactly the right moment, well done 👊

This is the best channel because you explain details and procedures of landing, nice scenery I used to watch planes landing in london City airport during my University days in those white building on the right opposite the runway.
