Conan Exiles - Fort Jingles

- This week I've mostly been building castles in Conan Exiles. Then tearing them down and building them right. Then tearing them down and hopefully building them REALLY right. It's been therapeutic!

The story of Fort Jingles seems to be quite similar to this.
"When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. And that one sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, and then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that’s what you’re going to get, Son, the strongest castle in all of England." -King of Swamp Castle, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Kneee!
I read this as if it were fresh prince of bel air intro, it really does fit :)
LOL! nice reference man! +1 for you.
haha, I just watched this a couple weeks ago
Ni
(come on guys lets --roleplay as the knights of ni-- spam ni)
Turns up in an unknown land, starts enslaving people and then builds an enormous structure and claims the land for himself. How awfully british of you, Jingles. I am proud of you. :D
Hey Jingles, you should watch Shadiversity's videos on castle-building in general and in Conan: Exiles, they are pretty good and an opposite of boring.
Please like this, so Jingles sees it. Shad + Jingles colab would be so awesome!
Tigara 12 holy fuck yes!
Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure they've built their castles in the same spot! :p
I'll just link 2 of them so he doesn't have to search ua-cam.com/video/hKTSmekTjT4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/L0s6tIwRjgY/v-deo.html
Was looking for MACHICOLATIOOOOONS tbh
So how long until one of his slaves performs a training montage, goes on an epic quest, comes back and beheads our gnomish overlord*?
*: Who may or may not have turned into a snake.
that would imply Jingles developing the voice of James Earl Jones which... would be awesome in a weird way^^
Sadly, there is no mechanics for Thralls going rogue and coming back for revenge. Besides, Jingles won't turn into a snake, he's read the list, he knows that never helps.
As for the Base, Jingles, it's pretty good, but the base itself is open to The Scourge because if they cant get in, they spawn inside your base. Where you had the fortified cave, at the downhill section of it, across the river is a pass that is an excellent place to build, plus, there is a camp nearby to raid for Thralls. The Pirate Ship nearby (Black Galleon) also produced Named thralls. However, what is to stop someone simply climbing up your tower? You need to put layers of Crenelations, otherwise someone naked with climbing boots and gloves can climb up.
He does not worship Set so doubt he will turn into a snake. But I do know the reference love the old Conan movies even have the books (:
Congratulations on volunteering? lol
training montages are prohibited in fort jingles so that rules rebels vowing revenge out, praise the gnome and his foresight!
I see you've finally found a game that lets you enslave random people to work in your Salt mine
Jingles, go look at the channel Shadiversity (medieval enthusiast) and take a look of what a castle built by a medieval nerd looks like.
THIS, exactly, and he just released it this week too. I love the nerdery in his videos
Had been thinking of telling him this too. And not even for any "look it's better" sort of thing. But because it's a nice example of the sort of things you *can* do, and it may give him even more ideas for things he can build later.
In fact in built a castle in that spot
Shad is awesome. I have him subbed. His weapons videos are good too.
This should be a good start for ya, Jingles.

5:05 Jingles - I think they call that "press-ganging"
I prefer "involuntary employment."
Conan Exiles isn't a perfect game, but I LOVE the building mechanics. I just wanted to say a solution I found to the over hanging blocks on plateaus is to build hidden foundations down into the cliff at various points, then attach ceiling pieces to those, then put your foundations on those ceilings. The ceiling pieces because are key because you can then attach inverted roof pieces underneath them to create a supported overhang that looks natural.
This is the most impressive while still realistic build project ive seen in exiles. You got an eye for detail there. Looks amazing ^^
Jingles playing Conan Exiles?
This is the most cunning crossover since (**insert clever analogy here**)!
"Jingles! What is best in life?"
"Frustration at being near an NPC village, redoing shoddy construction,, and the lamentation of time wasted building Borg cubes on rocks!"
I really enjoy you base build in games, its honestly so relaxing and I can watch it for hours, keep this up jingles!
Cheers for the video Jingles, I really enjoyed it , some much so I watched it twice and look forward to seeing more. :)
Game really has come along. Great that you did this video, hoping for more.
so glad you are covering this game, i love it to bits, well over 1100 hours and counting in it, couldnt think of a better person to do videos on it, well done Jingles,,,
I loved this video, fort jingles is amazing in every game!
Great video, going to be waiting for more of this!
Ive never seen this game before, but would like to see more of it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention
Drinking game: drink every time jingles says "expensive"
Thomas Overy Now my medical bills has become much more expensive.
Damn you Jingles :p
drink every time he says "basically"
For what it's worth... the inside spaces you're calling courtyards can indeed be called that, although a courtyard is technically a space inside the walls and fronting the keep, where the master lived. A more precise term is ward. An inner ward is a space inside the castle that archers can shoot down into once invaders make it that far. Outer wards are spaces between the inner and outer walls of a castle left for the same purpose. Wooden platforms for archers attached to the outside of a castle wall or tower are called hoardings. The overhanging structure you built at the corner of the second pinnacle was a bartizan. The first two pinnacles you built up as obstacles to reaching the third are barbicans. Some people call the main inside space of a castle the inner bailey, but that's actually part of a motte and bailey castle, which is a different type than you're making.
You must be a Medieval building guru.
Damn u Jingles! Making me buy games i didn´t know about!
Thanks for your wisdom, evil gnome overlord
YES, ANOTHER GAME I LOVE, and The Mighty Jingles making videos on it so I can have a few laughs... KEEP EM COMING!!
5:46 i still remember the day that i was recruited for the salt mines. I was so proud to scratch the salt of the walls with my bare hands since I wasn’t entitled to use a pickaxe. The good old days
Jingles, the fortress architect! I love it! 😄❤️
3:10 "And it's probably gonna take a little bit longer than a week"
And here we are, two years later still no sequel to this video ;-;
When your girlfriend spends hours chopping wood, quarrying stone and other resource gathering just to see your project complete. That's love.
Who knew the NPCs had a homeowner's association, let alone one powerful enough to keep a gnomish barbarian overlord from building his keep as he wants?
You know this makes me wanna download the game whoah awesome build
I really enjoyed this jingles, if you made another episode, I'd love to see it. I still wholly enjoy your other content but again this was refreshing to see. I might even buy it based on this.
How have I not seen this video before? I've been subscribed to your channel for years , been playing Conan for a couple of years and I love both! Way to go youtube algorithm. "in traditional jingles banter Ah Ah Ah Ah"! I vote a return to Fort Jingles 2.0.
This looks awesome. I LOVE Conan.
Would love to see more game play of this game! Btw great vid, keep the good work up!
Always glad to see new games by u
Love watching you play this :) I hope this turns into a series or something.
god dammit jingles now youve made me want another game when i have like 50 that i havent even installed yet
I really really liked this video jingles
*Builds cubic fortification.*
"I am Conan of Borg. Prepare to work the Wheel of Pain." =^[.]~=
This looks like a cool ass game Thanks for something new for us to enjoy
After playing countless hours of World of Tanks I took a break from it and started playing Conan Exiles and have about 800 hours in it but haven't played in almost a year now. I am going to pick it back up here soon but just wanted to say you caught me off guard seeing you playing Conan. I will continue to watch your progress, good to see you branching out from WoT. Keep up the great work on UA-cam.
This was really cool! Hope you do more of Conan! Really enjoyed SubNautica and this looks even better
Quite the attractive fortress, Jingles.
Keep em coming jingles!
Jingles + Conan = Awesome
As a massive castle nut nine minutes into the video, I'm already impressed with the overall plan.
13:30 in: yes, one correct name for a walled off outdoor space in a castle is a bailey.
Well Jingles, some people do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Sandstorm..build the Sandstormmask, no more trouble finding shelter.
Oh mighty overlord, more Conan Exiles videos please, this game looks highly entertaining, and well, I wanna see how Fort Jingles turns out!
**Discovers wedges**
**Creates squares from them**
LOL Jingles, don't change.
I played Conan years ago when it came out on PvP and got to max level (think it was 40 at the time) and we did building back then. As a clan. It really was a huge time sink just to get the resources, let alone build anything from them. The it would be the objective of another clan and HUGE fights would take place. Then more time to repair the thing. I don't remember having NPC to help at the time though. The amount of time and effort you've put into this and delivered a fantastic result on your own is most impressive Jingles. Thanks for sharing it with us.
DraigUK its easier to build and harvest resources now at least.
A solid rule for fortifications like this: simply have no straight line between doors in an interior space. Always have walls placed such that you have to go back and forth, turning every second's walk into five. Add in a second floor with retractable ropes or ladders and murder holes, you can move across the space quickly while dumping whatever you want on the guys who are forced to walk back and forth through the lower floor.
History lesson with jingles. How the salt mine palace of fort jingles was constructed.
Well done. I've been playing Conan since beta.Hundreds of hours gone forever.
Fort jingles is reminding me alot of the Eyrie, with the narrow passes and the fact that its built upon large rock pinnacles.
Holy shit that is cool as fuck! Now I don't have the patience for it but I am always amazed at what people can build in games like this. That cave alone to me was fucking incredible.
A few things: 1) In PvP, never put your main stuff on the First Floor. 2) Layered defenses are a great deterrent. 3) This is Conan, get your Dancing Girls and get lots of them!!
I would love to see a vid of you and Rita take on The Abysmal Remnant (Hint: Poison arrows) and The Witch Queen (Hint: slicing weapons)
I have the very same problem with the drawbridge Jingles . I build in the same area you did for an alternate base . My MAIN base is to the far North West right against the green barrier and is laid out like Helms Deep . It was purely not planned that way . Love the Conan series .
Jingles, where is your water source in Fort Jingles?
I would say the tears of his enemies, but we haven't seen any enemies yet.
If he's high enough level, he can learn to build a well, once he does that he no longer has a water problem.
Here's a drinking game. Take a shot every time Jingles says "Very, very expensive". Or when he says "Tear it down".
Jingles, make sure you leave plenty of room in your base for all of the various crafting stations as well as storage, maybe consider leaving a large space for a vault. I'd also leave plenty of room for multiple shrines since you can lear more than one religion in the game, you can actually learn all of them.
Dammit Jingles now you've got me buying yet another game!
Hi Jingles, you might want to check your build against a few simple rules of medieval and early modern fortifications:
1) All access points have to be defended (seems like you have that one covered).
2) Create easily defensible choke points and narrow courtyards.
3) Outlying defences have to be the weakest and have to be destructible from within the main fortification line (i.e. wooden structures). The goal being not to destroy the enemy at the first chance but to delay his advance and make him lose resources as he progresses (attrition).
4) Start low and go higher - every fortified point should be towered over by the fortification which is next in line so that a successful attacker will be exposed to fire from the next works.
5) Open up fortifications to the rear - whenever the enemy has conquered one fortified point, he should be denied protection from the next fortification works.
6) Avoid long straight "curtain walls" - they allow an attacking group to stay dispersed and less vulnerable to archers or guns.
7) Every inch of the wall base should be covered. In order to do so, let platforms slightly protrude from the wall (towers or bastions). Especially nasty were the so-called "Orillons", which were a slightly protruding part of bastion flank covering a gun (or in this case archer) emplacement behind it. They were practically covered from enemy fire but could easily fire at the base of the curtain wall and decimate an enemy once he had come this far.
8) If a wall is too high, archers are going to be less efficient. In early modern times, they used so-calles "Fausses braies" to remedy to that, i.e. lower and slightly advanced platforms - a bit like balconies - which would enable archers or guns to be closer to an attacking enemy. As a consequence, your castle would look less like a Lego brick and more like a spiky stairway to heaven (or hell).
It's like an episode of grand designs. Has one guy narrating, built a weird looking shape in a weird location, over budget and over time and still not finished at the end :D
I'm currently watching an 8 minute ad for the gnome overlord.I demand harder salt mine work as a reward. :D
Jingles lamenting about building mechanics in base building reminds me of the HOURS ive poured into Ark
It seems Jingles and United Airlines have the same definition of 'volunteer!'
Jingles is officially a dirty old man. Welcome to the club sir!
hope to see more of this
yo, jingles there is a piece of building equipped - i dont know the propper name right now - but it basically lets you place a segment of spikes on walls and such - it prevents ppl from climbing the walls, you should consider adding a "band" all around open-top wall segments of ur bases, if u havnt already~
also jingles. considering redoing the catwalks and stairs going up the various places, with lesser materials, so that if you or other ppl attack them, they will break before the walls etc do and ppl will fall down that way~
also it might be worth considering building all the stuff with unlimited resources in singleplayer first and once all is set up and done ya go back online and do the build 'properly' that way its less resource heavy...
Fort Noob rises from the desert like a Monument to Insanity 😛
Fort Jingles, If I wish to attack it I shall use a plan so cuning that you can pin a tail on it and call it Bob...
Instead of going in at the front door, and suffer from all of Jingles traps etc, I would just build a ramp at the rear and assault from there...
Well, the Romans did the same thing at Masada, so its not like it was my original idea...
jingles love your content! i have whatched hundreds of your videos and liked them all. especially subnautica and lone echo. that reminds me ... Please for the love of god please, please continue the lone echo series the suspense is killing me!
10,000 years ago, when men were men and men were worried about how nice their fortifications looked..........
well u gotta look stylish while colinizing.
Jingles, the type of guy to spend 5 hours building a draw bridge he will never use
'Volun-told-s'
Shadiversity has a set of videos showing masterpieces of castles
That's what makes Rita, Rita...middle name TENACITY
Fort Jingles reminds me of the keep at Pyke on the Iron Islands near Westeros
The main points of castle defenses:
"location, location, location"
-Shadiversity
"MATICULATIONS!!!!"
-Shadiversity
"layered defenses"
-Shadiversity
"Overlapping fields of fire"
-Sergeant Avitus
well Boss you know what they say... go big or go home! you certainly did that lol good job looks awesome
Wow thats amazing i really hope its going to pay out and this game looks cool hope to see more videos from that.
oh god... making the woman do all the heavy lifting now, are we, Jingles? Count yourself lucky that she hasn't bitten your head off already.
Fun fact: That dance at 12:20 is an old traditional Norwegian folk dance called 'Hallingdans'.
Pls keep playing Conan I love this
Now we just need to get Shadiversity in here to review Fort Jingles, haha. He actually recently made his own castle videos in this.
Fabulous!
if you talk about castle which were impenetrable: we got the castle "hochosterwitz" (Austria, Carinthia) which was taken once by the turks but then the build out of it the fortress which is practicle impenetrable. Here a short summarize of it:
The castle is build on a step hill but the way up was undefended and they build they way with 14 Gates between them and you can shoot at attackers at gate 1 from gate 6. To show you that i try to ilustrate the principal idea:
CASTLE
gate 13, gate 14
gate 12, gate 11, gate 10
gate 7, gate 8, gate 9
gate 6, gate 5, gate 4
gate 1, gate 2, gate 3
You start the attack of couse by gate 1, and the other side of the hill is ~85° steep
So yeah even with gunpowder nobody attacked that hochosterwitz
BTW only the türks capture gate 1 once the other gates were never captured
Hurray for Rita having your back!
Jingles, you were in the Navy, it’s called a “Press Gang”... 😉🤣😉
That's the same cave I always build my base in, its a good spot.
Ah yes, I remember that Salt Miner hazing process...
Jingles presents: Cube: Retro Cube
Make this a mini series, hail the gnome overlord
Ended up looking good. As well as some existing castles I'd say.
"I have a rock pinnacle"
_upskirt view of Salt Mine Overseer's hairy legs_
Nice Castle!
fascinating
This must be Conan O'Brien. The Conan I remember from the novels and movies wasn't interested in building towers. He was more interested in slaying his enemies before him and hearing the lamentation of their women. And I haven't seen one enemy slain or one lamentation from a woman.
Jingles you dirty old man.
...he must really love that axe ;)
Jingles built a Borg Cube!
This has new series written all over it
