Abortion is a complicated issue for pro-lifers running for federal positions now. The issue is that any candidate who runs on a platform of a total abortion ban will almost certainly not win. We have to recognize that prudence is not just a virtue in personal conduct, but it is also a political virtue. Suppose someone runs on a platform of banning abortion after five months (not ideal, I know, but is more palatable to the general electorate) and gets it passed. That still leads to more abortion restriction than would happen with someone running on a total ban and never getting elected.
I believe the CDF produced a document stating a politician can hold to such a strategy as long as he makes clear his total personal opposition to abortion. We need to focus on restricting abortion to whatever extent is palatable to the electorate now, and then focus on changing hearts and minds to be able to move toward a full ban. Going all out right now on the national level is nothing short of political suicide and would unfortunately lead to a net increase in abortions.

Not sure why we new to bag Trump on the abortion issue when his presidency brought in judges that overturn Roe vs Wade. In a perfect world, it would be nice to have someone to do the right thing but ill take we i can get. Trump is not bad and i pray for him to do the right thing.
If Trump also flat out said that he doesn’t support abortion, period, Democrats would use that against him to try and win the election. America is simply not in a position at the moment to accept that kind of change, and if you want to implement change in the first place, you have to win elections. So Trump is being politically smart even if I disagree with him.

As someone who previously supported Biden, someone in denial until last night, Trump did exactly what he needed to do. He acted far more presidential than usual. That was enough. He truly just needed Biden on display.

I watched the debate on the TimCastIRL channel where they fact checked in real time. Ot was hard to watch because the old stammering man reminds me of a grandpa who just wants to watch his tv shows. It makes me sad. Trump was easy on him.

It seems like nobody (in their right mind) would really vote for Biden, so clearly some will vote against Trump because (they say) "he's divisive." I hope Trump voters actually go out and vote, because simply cheering him on at home won't be enough.

Truly tragic. I've been aware of Biden's decline for a while, but last night clinched my decision to swap my support to Trump. Biden is the bigger threat to the longterm integrity of democracy. Trump was far more cool headed than usual, and appropriately let Biden reveal just how bad he's declined.
Yes, Bidens decline is serious and detrimental, but that doesn't warrant switching and voting for a known tyrant. I think it might be better to have faith in the democrats around Biden to carry on. Odd stance, but let's not forget Jan 6. Let's also hope that someone with a brain convinces Biden to step down and we get a better candidate. But please, no Trump.
