I'm old enough to know that kwaito was taken from house and was mixed with our own style. I remember in the early nineties when Robin S was out we used to call that amakatara. And the guys that were popping at the time were oo thiza with time table and chocolate. Joe nina came with enkantini round about 93 or 94. Mfu was out also with tsiki tsiki as to who started kwaito i don't know beacuse Arthur was already out with amagents ayaphanda.

I remember that era... The sound jus before the 90s was bubblegum... With Chicco and them at the forefront... And indeed the house influence with a slower sound came in. As a producer, Joe Nina did some sounds and also did Brenda's new sound which kinda set the tone I think...

Facts is these artists learned from the likes of Spokes H, Alec Khaoli , Thiza etc. in fact music was evolving at the time and mostly being influended by american pop which was also becoming laced with acid jazz and house. Before Kwaito there was Guz, Gong, LA Beatz etc which influenced the sound. SeaBee Motloung Thiba, Home Boyetc became a hits long before these cats came onto the scene.
