  • One or more of these six reasons may hold the key to your 'tree drawing breakthrough'. The answer to drawing problems is often how we're thinking, rather than any actual drawing technique. Don't miss the important, but often neglected tree drawing tip at the end.

I had to laugh that I was thinking exactly the way you described. I’ve been insisting the trees I choose to draw be the easy ones I know are out there. Thanks!!

Being able to laugh at ourselves is such an advantage in life I think Linda, and to have a sense of humour regarding our drawing doubly so. Clearly you will go far and have fun all the way. Glad I could help. 😀

i actually had to pause when I heard you explain how drawing a face can turn out disturbingly wrong. I was laughing so hard I couldn't pay attention to what you were saying. The reason i found this so funny is because I have been there done that! Thanks for the healthy laugh fit LOL

in digital art there is custom brushes but when it comes to draw on paper mines doesnt look good 💀

I don’t have digital drawing experience Ryusei, but it seems that tablet and paper are such different materials many of the skill they need are quite different to each other. Maybe work with one for a time, and then the other. Try not to change back and forth too quickly or often. Until you feel comfortable with both. All the best. 😀

The greatest advantage to digital art is one I go crazy on - you're not wasting expensive supplies lol. I love both, but digital took some getting used to after 30 years of paint and pencils.

I draw trees digitally the same way i do traditional. Pen brushes. Texture brushes dont help you actually learn how to draw trees. The moto is if you cant draw someone manually then you shouldnt use texture brushes to do it. Learn the subject first then feel free to use texture brushes after, dont rely on them.

I have been trying to draw a biological looking tree for 2 months and just today the tree I drew actual showed progress forward. This tree was from my mind and not looking at one you had done as a crutch.

Do you have any good drills that would help my brain unlearn the idea of using solid lines to define borders/boundaries? I doodled a lot when I was younger doing mostly hard edged objects and always found soft/abstract things like trees, people, etc very difficult. I have been trying my hand at the daily upload videos and find trees unnecessarily difficult in terms of shading.

@@stephentraversart That's because trees allow happy accidents just like distant mountains, rock formations, distant groups of people etc where you can just suggest something and it magically comes together. Human faces, anatomy or detailed architecture are hard. I'm an architect and i always rushed to draw buildings so I can draw the natural environment. You're one of the few here on youtube who actually draws beautiful trees imho.
