Now the Cox decision not to express an interest or to apply for the West Coast job makes sense. Didn't think that Longmire was going to leave this soon. Why not announce his departure at the end of the season?

Because he felt he could finish 2025 initially. Listen to his press conference. Simple really.

Sydney have never been a powerhouse? We must be talking about different Swans teams because that team list on paper for certain seasons was absolutely stacked.

He is an excellent coach, it just didn't always work out. He made five grand finals, and while he only won one - that's one more than the vast majority of coaches. And finishing second is better than third.
That said, I don't think it's true that he hasn't had good sides. After all, that's something people credit him well for: development and building a great list.

Penrith aren't going to keep on winning NRL Premierships. The salary cap catches up with everyone even when they have a talent production line that is streets ahead of everyone else. Lots of players have left for big money elsewhere and that will continue to happen.

"With the exception of 2016, I don't think John Longmire has had the best side in the competition."
    - Gerard Healy in 2024
"My count is that 17 or 18 of their players that aren't playing would fit comfortably into a lot of teams, so if they have someone out, someone comes in who is almost as good as them. Their depth is as good as I have seen in any football club."

Sydney the biggest team in the country? On what metric? The amount of fans that come to their game's? They're not even in the top 5 of the AFL for that and they're in the biggest city in the country. Collingwood would easily be biggest in the AFL.

@Hazza1960 Collingwood is like the globe trotters. Everywhere they go, there's a crowd. Both Crows and Eagles are big clubs, but they aren't Collingwood. The Pies are the Manchester United of the AFL.
5 sellouts (and the AFL use that term very loosely) is not what Gerard said. He was talking like they were Real Madrid. Outside of 2024, it's a ghost town.

Same answer as Caroline Wilson after the 2014 GF loss to Hawthorn. 2 years later we were there again & was the top team in the home & away season. Naysayers are all about but a rebuild after a GF loss is not one I subscriber to.
