2008 E92 M3 with 180k miles. At 60k one throttle actuator broke, had both replaced. 120k had the rod bearings replaced preemptively. 165k my accessory pulley seized and I lost my power steering pump. I drive my M3 every day and despite the previous incidences, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks for this comment. Giving me confidence to keep mine. My goal was to either ditch it before 75k or keep it forever. It's the best car I've ever driven. 100%

When you replaced your rod bearings at 120k how did they look? I have 106k and I was wondering if I should do it..

That is awesome, weird how the power steering isn't electronic. Although yours is a 2008 so maybe the 2011 update has that.

I thought all E9x DCT have a dedicated cooler? The parts diagrams show it and list it. Surprised you are tracking it and haven't per formed a DCT fluid replacement, even if not tracked.

I have a 2013 E92 M3, have attempted to trade mine with M2 and M4 but there is nothing like the feel of V8 for me and sitting on a M2 doesn’t give me the feeling of luxury and feel of being in a race car feel than on my E92 M3. I am hopeful it will be collectible die to it’s V8 engine and being the last NA of M performance.

Your M3 sounds pretty reliable with very minimal repair. In my M3 (RIP) rear ends buy commercial truck. Over a 10 yrs 105k mi. as a daily beater and I drive hard my major repair was the Alternator.
    And of course regular maintenance.

Ha, i just watched you drive by friends house in that video. Small world. Great video, huge ///M fan and you hit the nail on the head on some of the weaker parts on the e9x m3. I have been contemplating an F80 or M2 Comp but i keep coming back to the exhaust note difference. The new models are gorgeous, fast, have all the tech you want but just don’t sound as good as that high strung v8.

It's those damn turbos, I tell you!! That, and the 1SM uses N54 and M2 uses N55 engines... NON-M shared engines! It's not an S54B32 or S65B40!!

10:00 is the MOST relatable thing to owning this car. I just hit 57k and have had no issues but I am starting to wonder what the best option is. I just know for a FACT I will miss it every day. I used to have an e39 530 and I miss that one often as well....agh I just know I will miss the e92. haha

People compare a 400+ hp cars reliability with the reliability of hondas and whatever. If you are scared to swing the wrench don’t buy a bmw. Had a honda civic before also went through a e90,46 and so on. I for sure can tell you that the comfort of the beemer is next level. Fun factor and all that aswell. Regarding the fuel consumption you can whine around if you want but i manage to burn the same amount of gas with the 46 325 as i did with a 1.5 civic.

a 2005 Lexus ES330 with 66K.....the only issue was I had to change the brakes to ceramic so I didn't have to clean the brake dust from the rims every other day! Not as fun as the BMW but, fun enough especially without and problems....EVER! lol My life lessons taught me that only buy a German car if it is brand new and sell soon as it hits 50K miles. BMWs could be one of the best cars to drive but, they are cheaply built and have a small window of time in reliability. The old saying when buying a boat(BMW), the best day is the first day you bought it and the next best day is the day you sold it.....lol.

My excuse for maintaining it and putting some money into it here and there comes down to the difference between maintenance cost and new car depreciation. I would still certainly lose more money going with a new car so I'm happy to stay the course with the ole bimmer for a while

OEM GTS DCT tune fixes the shift delay from reverse to drive. I've done this on a few cars and you should too!
Also upgrade to real race pads and be done for track days. If you're not running race pads on the track, you will have problems. There's no way around that.

Coming from a e92 335i driver for over 4 years 120k miles and have driven e9x m3s. Driving the M2 I was very let down, it did not have that real M car feel that the s65 has. The m2 feels like a 335i to me. I think you would be let down trading your e92 m3 for a m2. Maybe the 2019 M2 will be better with the S55.

E46 M3 all the way. The best M3 they ever made hands down.. the S54B32 is so high strung, such a blast to drive, never gets old! But it's also a huge money pit, never spent so much money on a car before. I still love her to death though, wouldn't give it up for anything else! 2004 here approaching 120k miles on the motor; performed Beisan Systems S54 VANOS rebuild (w/ anti-rattle procedure), about to do complete F&R suspension refresh, already have aFe stage II intake + DNA motoring catback installed.. have Megan Racing headers awaiting install! Also have Redish V2 plates sitting awaiting reinforcement/repair of the RACP.. good luck on your own, hope you're able to repair yours and get it reinforced!!

Blake Romero why doesn’t BMW have a factory recall on the rod bearings like they did on the E 46. It’s just insane that a manufacture can get away with this bad design and engineering. I would really like to buy one of these M3’s but that’s one of the issues that’s preventing me from pulling the trigger

    • @blakeromero7620
      @blakeromero7620 5 років тому

@@Livingmybestlife68 , because this "issue" only affects .01% of the e90/2/3 M3's. Apparently, everyone fell for the "replace your rod bearings before its too late scam". If no cars are breaking then there is nothing to fix. Buy one or don't, if you're a true fan it won't matter. My car hasn't exploded yet. I will keep holding my breath along with the $1k in my bank account.

Dude, you need to mantain your seats Weekly. Every Weekend you need to oil the leather up... If thats too much, then by Weekly or monthly at least. Anything past that and will wear. You can use any hand cream, it will do just fine.

I excuse for bird crap man 😂 get a face wipe and lightly rotate over it and use a soft micro fibre to get rid of the residue 🙌

Enter the car correctly and you dont damage the bolsters. You body is already past the area where you get wear.

As long as you allow the engine to warm up properly and allow the cold thick oil to thin and flow your rod bearings should be fine. The problem is people not allowing it to warm up, slamming it in drive and drive it hard. "Unreliable Car Owners"! People always have the misconception that their cars should play its part and hold up to whatever stresses they put it through. What they don't understand is that they have to play their parts too to keep their cars working in tip top shape.

For normaol car, 60,000 miles is low mileage and a car should require nothing but oil changes and tire rotation.

That is not a normal car, it is a performance vehicle. Performance cars will almost always want a little extra care and attention - it's not a mummy wagon, despite what Tedward's parent drives ;-)

How do you service your car but have no idea how to reset the service light? BMW service indicators are literally the easiest to reset in the business and almost anyone can tell you how to do it🤔 you could also at least wipe the bird droppings off with a warm wet towel and alcohol😂 Hopefully you're using 10w60 on the oil changes.

Nice car, though the reason I'd tend to want to stick to Lexus or Acura for performance is that I can drive them and not have to worry about going bankrupt if something breaks after the warranty is up.

TheHvk While they are infinitely more reliable and on par with, if not better, on the luxury front, Lexus F cars have consistently lost in performance head to head tests against M and AMG cars of the same price point, and with Acura... unless you’re buying the NSX, there isn’t a performance car anymore. The TLX A-Spec is too slow to count, although it does look awesome. Unfortunately, if you want truly good performance while staying stock, the M, AMG, and RS cars are going to be better than their Japanese counterparts. V series Cadillacs would be a good choice too.

Its too frustrating that any of the higher end stuff always have weird issues. Driven Hondas my whole life never had any issues. I go and buy a Maserati and the thing is an absolute blast to drive, sounds unreal and everyone is always pointing and asking questions. But God.. Just not reliable.

Mines also does that Delay cold start thing sometimes too. I own a 2008 with 38k miles and Ive done a lot of research in regards to that as well asking many mechanics because I thought it was a issue but I guess from what ive heard its a normal thing with these cars. The e9x m3 is a very reliable in my opinion. Yes it has some issues but every car has its own issues sooner or later something will fail on every car. Love these cars always puts a smile on my face!
