Respectfully, what I ask of you, brother, is: Why should we focus on the reward? Why should we focus on the punishment? Shouldn't we just focus on the truth and focus on what is right? And act on that question, regardless of what the punishment or the reward would be?
There must be a very pertinent reason for which our Rabb invites us to reflect on reward and punishment several times in the Qur’an don’t you think? He has described how his Creature is and what they need. It seems the way Allah has made us is such that we need reminders and motivations as part of guidance and striving towards Him.
Because the reward remains forever and that's called eternity in heaven and the punishment would also last as long if you act the wrong way consciously. So I think it's clear why we should focus on the reward because that's the ultimate result! What is happening all around us are all tests for all of us, whether we pass it successfully or not, we choose! And God knows best!
