I was just about to make a video for my channel (and I still may) about this issue. What I found out is going on is when the light diffuser is attached to the roof of the car, as per the instructions, the light unit hits it as you put the shell back on and that pushes it down. This is why there is a lot of light on one side only.
Thanks for the video! Securing diffusers in the roofs of these cars have always been a headache for me. I tried what you've suggested & it works for me too!! It's a piece of cake!!
I bought version 2 light kit for Azuma and GWR. Did not need the plastic light guides, they come with better guides.. So waist of money. All that was needed was led module and copper strips...... But now using the led guides on early Eurostar., just need some rectangle leds and wire between carriages to rear unit that has pick ups. And diodes to make bridge power supply.

This kit works with DCC? or DC? Or is controlled like a decoder?
It works with both, and Kato even offers a decoder for the light control. The decoder is a one per car deal tho.
