A good “dirt cheap” rc crawler that is a well known brand would be a Everest 10 or gen 7 sport by redcat. Great rigs, good brand

REVIEW NEEDED: XMAXX vs LOSI DBLE 2.0
2 cents:
Losi seems to be able to corner on full throttle, which makes it faster... which is why we all end up putting 8s in these things... faster is more fun. I'm not a fan of having to reduce throttle just so the front end of the RC stays down. So another bonus for the Losi with it's more stable stance.
Having said all that, I have a feeling the XMaxx will do back flips better, and take abuse a bit better (partially because it is slower, and partially because of the flexible plastic used instead of metal, and also due to longer travel in the suspension).
Which is better is hard to say. Depends on what you want it to do. On landings the XMaxx appears to be very Unstable and tumbles over unless it lands perfectly on all 4 wheels with NO lateral G-forces. The LOSI can easily handle these off-camber landings... and therefore you don't need to go and turn it back upright.
I am still undecided which is better in mud... assuming you put a big set of Prolines on the LOSI to even up the tyre situation.
At the end of the day... I think the LOSI DBLE 2.0 takes the win.... but not easily... and that is because I prefer to have stability, not this lurching, less controllable XMaxx. ;)
At least the Jeep makes for a great POV truck! Suspension seemed a little stiff. But otherwise it’s good looking

Hi Kevin I recently bought the xmaxx for my son on your recommendation but now I've taken a shine to the hobby myself. I'm interested in this crawler to start out and then perhaps move on to something like the trx4 but i have a question. Did you run the RGT on the 3s without modifications? Thanks
I just have to stick to the FTX Ravine for now! It’s actually not a bad crawler for the price...

Yeah I just started and spend 650 on some batteries a kraton 4s a nice duo venom charger a new servo and a new radio and I think I got off pretty cheap for everything that I have. Ordering some rpm arms and some different tires and ima be good for awhile. Until I want something new at least lol

These crawlers don’t require much maintenance, just rinse off and repeat (dry well). maybe shoot some silicon lubricant on the exposed rotating parts every once in a while

I've been wanting a crawler especially these types for such a long time now. The time still hasn't come but I'm thinking about it! And question: is there a mod you have to work on to achieve the car surviving while underwater? or is it just included in when the rc is stock?
I believe a brushless motor and water proof ESC are the trick
The stock electronics on all trx4 are waterproof, doesn’t need to be brushless
