As far as indie lighthouse keeper games go, this seems to be one of the better ones so far. Please consider playing the full game on release, it got me curious.
The increasing corpses was pretty disturbing and the fact that they could appear so fast was extremely unsettling. It’s nice when a game can be scary without constant jump scares.
Honestly I cant describe the chills i got seeing that huge chain reel up at that speed. Dont know, theres just something terrifying about a chain this massive.
Glad to see you checked this one out! This game seems like it's going to be insanely fun, I can't wait for the full release of the game; loved the atmosphere and the tension.
If there is something Cju really is more obsessed with, its Toilets in horror games and Lighthouse horror games. Man you are an amazing gamer and a Commentator. I enjoy every game he plays and his commentaries are very much entertaining. KEEP IT UP MAN.
This game's name has changed to The Pale to avoid conflicting with another indie horror game with the title The Keeper. Hopefully somebody can let Chris know this somehow so he can check this out when it releases later this year. Update a year later: It's confirmed coming out soon. Dev said in June 2024 that the game is roughly 75% done.
This feels a bit Lovecraftian. At first I thought the people of The Pale had their own pet Kraken or worshipped Dagon. Then I conjectured that they never actually left The Pale, and neither did poor ol' Pete. However it plays out, I think Arthur was never meant to leave The Pale as he may be someone/something's bell peppers and beef.😂 I can't wait to find out what happens when you play the full game. 👍 As for salesperson or keeper--it's lighthouse keeper and isolation all the way! 🤣
I'd actually love to be a lighthouse keeper. It's like the ideal job. I get to live somewhere with an ocean view, the work is easy, I'd be my own boss and I wouldn't have any pesky neighbors, except the occasional seagull.
@@TheSeqel True. But when you know what they are and set yourself into a daily routine of checking things and fixing whatever needs it, i think it could be a breeze.
There were definitely inspirations from the "The Lighthouse" movie, but this game was AWESOME! I hope you'll play the full version when it comes out. I loved the build-up, and really want to know what that chain was holding that you seem to have released. And the flayed bodies attacking....This game so far has been really done well!
I enjoyed this Demo a lot! Liked the old style, the camera angles, the sounds, the story is intriguing, I want more! Thank you for playing this, Chris!
Watching you ignore the save point outside the lighthouse every time you passed by was giving me serious anxiety. I like the Silent Hill vibe. Looking forward to the full game!
This looks great! I love the atmosphere and the slow transition from daylight to darkness as more stuff started happening. Look forward to the full game!
This is really interesting, definitely play the full version. it does seem like there's a lot of lighthouse horror games out there, but 1. it's not that many compared to all the PT clones/walk-around-house-and-find-out-what-evil-thing-you-did games, and 2. lighthouses are always fun & spooky
Totally would pick lighthouse keeper over retail any day. Sure there might be lots of lighthouse horror games, but who cares? Always a good setting in my opinion. Definitely intriguing too, looking forward to the full game!
Chris can you make a playlist of totally original lighthouse-based indie horror games? Joking aside, its honestly a theme I enjoy. Sometimes the games using it are crap, but every now and then you get one that strikes gold, and its worth the gamble, I find.
This game is very intriguing. I would love to see a full play through when possible. I look forward to seeing the rest if you choose to play it. Also, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your videos. I appreciate your approach and game choices. Thanks for the hours of entertainment.
I actually like it a lot. Refreshing on the standard story. That chain going up out of the sea was great. Also so many enemies really gives you creep feeling. Look forward to more when game comes out🤗
Hey Chris, you probably know this already but Westwood shadows is out. You played the demo to it about three years ago. It would be nice to see you play the finished product.
oh man. YES. the massive chain..... the shackle...the bodies....the foghorn that sounds like an organic roar...the unreliable narrator. YES!! So good, I really hope the full game gets finished and released. Amazing.
Were you thinking Mysterious Idle might be some sort of competition where protagonists from mystery games all have to compete to see who can solve the secrets of the island first?
Promising game with comparable good graphics, interesting twist and humorous dialogue. Looking forward to you playing the full version and thank you for spoiling us. You really deserve a few days off for yourself.
When I saw another lighthouse horror game, I said to myself I hope that this developer makes it different from the other lighthouse horror games and boy oh boy I am looking forward when the full game comes out.
Arthur's screwed he's wearing a redshirt (and is a lighthouse keeper in a horror game). And if I have learned anything from Star Trek, redshirts are doomed (and if I have learned anything from watching lighthouse horror games, the keeper is doomed).
Ohh, this game is entertaining. I love the Lovecraftian vibe with the Kraken chained up, and the way the bodies ran after you, did give a real sense of panic to your character,.... its actually got some great 'cinematics'. Angles, reveals, good pacing. I really like it. Despite its look, I think these Devs know what theyre doing, story telling-wise. I'd really love to see you playing the complete game, Chris. :)
There sure are a lot of indie horror games centered around lighthouses. Not that I'm complaining, it's just weird how it keeps coming up. I should really watch the video before commenting, Chris pretty much said the same thing in the first 20 seconds.
I can't wait for the full game. It was like a mix of Minecraft, Lego, & RE. I love it when you play these little indie games as it helps the devs so much as we then want to go and play them too 😁 Thank you for playing Chris.
I loved this! I wonder if the radio call signs are a reference to the Shining. I got so excited when I heard KDK-12 and KDK-1! I can't wait to see the full game.
So they have some kind of an Eldrich Horror creature chained at the bottom of the ocean there, and you can release it with a press of a button that's poorly labelled. You also send a lighthouse keeper without drilling it into their skull not to touch that specific button at any cost. And you expect everything to be fine? Oh well.
Okay, now I need to know what the hell is going on? What did Arthur unleash? Inquiring minds want, no, NEED to know! pleaseplaythingwhenitcomesoutthankyou...
Lessons learned: Don´t chain Cthulhu-like/size creatures in some shack - build a bunker around! Don´t add a big, easy-to-push button to the release mechanism! Brief your workers in more detail than: Don´t care about the big chain! But the game looks interesting, and it has a good end to hook you in 👏
One of these days...an Indie horror game about being a lighthouse keeper won't have: -the premise of replacing the old lighthouse keeper because they died/vanished mysteriously -an ancient lovecraftian evil from the depths of the ocean that may or may not actually be a representation of mental illness wrought by isolation as an antagonist Until then, they won't surprise me. This was bog-standard at best, the only edge it had was from those skinless corpses that, refreshingly, the player can fight and kill instead of merely evade.
Ok, bonus points for using an accurate HAM call sign, even a small nod by using the same one as the overlook in Kubrick's movie. Speaking of lighthouse games, do you know what ever happen with the game Broken Pieces? You played the demo a while back, and it seemed really promising.
Funny enough I have an idea for an Adventure game that takes place at a Lighthouse. Though never can say if I ever will develop when I got other projects I have to focus on.
This looks so good! I really hope it's still in development but the last thing I could see from the dev was a comment on their dev vlog from 6 months ago... BUUUUT that comment did say that they would never stop development on it... unless it has been taken out of their hands...!? :(
*glass breaking* "what the?!.. oh dear,... what was that?... was that someone rummaging through my kitchen?... trying to find the bell peppers and beef?!... there's no beef"
Meh I don't mind you playing a bunch of Lighthouse games... honestly to me it's like a Haunted House movie/game as long as it's a tried and true concept and as long as it's executed well I'll never get tired of em. :) Can't beat any isolated horror locations, whether it's the middle of the ocean or the middle of the woods... either way I'm down. As always thanks Chris for your awesome content!
Damn I need more of this, what a nice little ride. I just wish it will not be necessarily a lovecraftian resolution again. I really hope you will play the full version when it aires!
This is just like that horror game "endless days" where you get dropped off at the beginning to fend for yourself as well, except you have a full pantry this time🤔
I really wish this was the full game because I'm so interested in the story!! A giant monster fish sucking people's skins off and turning them into zombies??? Whaaatt?

I love his jolly running animation. He looks so happy. It is especially funny when he runs down the stairs and from the "beach suprise".
I enjoyed this Demo a lot! Liked the old style, the camera angles, the sounds, the story is intriguing, I want more!
Thank you for playing this, Chris!
Another case of armageddon being avoided if only someone had invested in a label maker.
The "Wait, there's no beef in it!" at 10:32 was 1,000% a Cowboy Bebop reference and that made me so happy.
That was fun. The way the fog was done really did have SH1 vibes. Also love the 90s graphics.
Haha! Nice- A "Cowboy Bebop" reference! They get points from me just for that 😆
I loved that. Nice surprise.
This is the better of all the lighthouse keeper games that have come out. Gonna be cool to see the full game
Probably my favorite lighthouse keeper game that you’ve played yet! I’m very interested in seeing more!
Thank you for uploading so regularly. Just want to say, you're appreciated ❤️
Having worked in retail, I can honestly say I’d rather spend weeks on an isolated island, tending an oversized spotlight.
That light-hearted and cheeky intro was hilarious! :3 Your commentary really makes these games all the more fun to watch. Thank you for the laughs 😊
Watching you ignore the save point outside the lighthouse every time you passed by was giving me serious anxiety.

Packard Mill - Twin Peaks
KDK-1 is the call letters from the Shining
And rather a lot of Silent Hill nods, too, of course (the spiral staircase is a good one)

KDK 12 was the call sign of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. KDK 1 was the ranger station they had contact with. Nice ref
