  • Every so often we need to slow down and enjoy the process. In this video I make a concerted effort to slow my entire process down until I get a little pile up. Spent a lot more time on this summit than normal and mat have found a new way to activate my SOTA peaks. I show some portable QRP antennas I use and talk about a few ham radio tricks and tips. Hope you enjoy and please remember to subscribe.

    Who else needs to slow down on their SOTA activations? Even when I purposefully set out to slow down, I found myself ramping up my pace on that little pile up I had so I wouldn't miss anybody 😜

    Jerry,
    Another great video. I liked the views of the summit and enjoyed seeing how you set up. Thanks for taking the time to show us the different antennas that you use, I just got a push up pole and looking forward to trying the random wire antenna that you showed us with my KX3.

    Thank you Jerry. Great video. I personally appreciate it when you explain the basics. As a newer ham and a beginner Sota activator it really helps to have some guidance that doesn't assume that I know something that I don't.

      Thanks Mark! Trust me, I really hope my channel reaches and inspires people just like you. The more the merrier that get involved with SOTA IMO. Feel free to make video topic suggestions too. Sometimes I blow past things that may be obvious to me and not others so whatever I can do to help new people out would be personally satisfying.

    Glad to hear that you are slowing down. I worry about your heart in 15 more years. Trust me after heart surgery, my doctor told me to do exactly what you are doing. I was a serious runner and 53 years old when it happened. I just want you to be around making these good videos with all this neat stuff.

      Thanks Tommy. Honestly, it was so relaxing and felt great. I hustle all the time at work and even at home. I’m a busy body by nature so this is going to take some practice but the thing I need to remember is I’m really only competing against myself for the MG. Another thing, I am enjoying this SOTA journey so much I don’t want it to end so what’s the rush. Thanks for the great reminder.

    Hi Jerry, What headphones are you using with VOX and how did you set it up on KX2? 73, KF&ZVL

    • @KG6HQDJerrySOTA
      @KG6HQDJerrySOTA  5 років тому

      Hey Kelley - I have used my iPhone ear buds and my Heil Pro Micro. I recently tried using a lavalier mic clipped to my headset for VOX and iPhone ear buds and it worked well. I did find the VOX use a tad touchy as it was exposed to wind and movement when I was moving around causing the VOX to prematurely activate. I prefer my Heil headset for sure but when I want to go ultra light and compact I know the iPhones and lav mic will do the trick. Play with your VOX inhibitor and other setting to get it to your taste for activating and you’re all set. Hope that helps but if not let me know and I’ll throw a quick video together on it.

  • @scottak6q406

    • @KG6HQDJerrySOTA
      @KG6HQDJerrySOTA  5 років тому

      Hey Scott, totally use VOX like 99% of time but when trying to talk to camera sometimes I’ll switch it off and just hit the xmit button. I have those parts still and it’s on my list of things to do. Maybe I visit you again and video that build if you’re up for it. 😁
