I've not long found your channel, but liking what you have been doing. I'm at a very early stage of building a 15ft dinghy, having restored a couple of smaller fibreglass ones. The space needed to build has been a real eye opener for me and I have had to revise my plans quite considerably as the realisations have dawned. My garage is just over 12 ft wide, the boat is 5.5 ft. This is still too narrow without pre cutting all the strakes. Then storage becomes a problem. Problem solving is one of the joys of boat building to my mind, and it really beats clearing up hands down. Epoxy is very expensive and I've seen a lot of it go off in the pots in vids. It is surprising just how far it can go and once spread out the cure slows down, so there is always time to knock up a bit more. Eventually you get an eye for how much you need. It is handy to have a use for any remainder though. Your Pocketship looks great, keep on keeping on.

Hi Dale, thanks for your comment and for sharing some thoughts based on your experiences. I definitely agree that problem solving is one of the joys and addictive too. Clearing up is harder to get excited about for sure. I didn't realise I was so untidy before I started my boat build!! Great to hear that you are a few projects in and still enjoying it. I must admit that nearing the end of this project my mind is wandering to what might be next?!?

@@alan-hulme What next is the big question. I have in the past been compared to Mr Toad for my obsessions, lol.

Tip 6 is a good life tip in general, going all the way back to Seneca who was Nero's tutor and adviser. In such a precarious position he was concerned about the trouble caused by people becoming angry. So he advocated considering what could go wrong in advance, so that if something did it wouldn't come as a surprise and people would stay calmer. Keeping Nero calm probably occupied 90% of his time 😂

That has been a repeating theme also, that there are many skills that you learn through boat building which are then transferable to other situations. Keep calm and carry on. Or keep calm and take a break. Great to hear from you David 🙂
